  • In today’s video we visit Estonia and check up on the (Ex - Union Pacific, Missouri Pacific) C36-7 loco’s. These locomotives keep charging on to this day, with their new owner being “Operail” having no plans on retiring them anytime soon. (Estii Raudtee dispanded in 2018 dividing the rail freight transport from the infrastructure group).
    These engine’s were brought to Estonia by Ed Burkhardt’s Rail World, to replace the old, run down and failed 2M62 and M62 Class diesel’s built by the Woloszynowgrad Locomotive Works (Lugansk Locomotive Works after the fall of the USSR in 1991) in the 1970’s - 80’s. The C36-7 wasn't the only type of six axle GE’s to be exported to Estonia. 19 former Conrail C30-7’s we’re exported there as well, but in 2008 all of the 19 units retired by the Estonian Railways, cause of the engines being as well run down by Conrail.
    Ed Burkhardt owned Estii Raudtee (Which was part of Rail Word). He aswell owned and Created Wisconsin Central, Rail Polska and in the UK, he owned the EWS Rail Company. You will find more information in the video I narrated myself :)
    If I sound like an underage person in this video I DEEPLY apologize. I do not sound like this in real life. Not only that am I grown adult and for some reason my voice is still maturing…

    : C36-7 Updates:
    Update: January 2023
    As of writing this, there have been speculations going around about the owner of these ancient GE's going bankrupt.
    Sadly this fact is true...
    Operail is going bankrupt and will most likely be erased from the face of Estonia by the end of this month.
    Operail has lost a major rail contract involving transporting oil from Russia / Belarus to the ports in Tallinn and Padilski. This contract has been rewarded to Latvia's LDZ Cargo with them transporting now 57% of the trains in Estonia. Smaller private operators in the mentioned country for example GoRail have also taken over some segments of Estonia's freight service with Operail barely moving anything since the start of the War in Ukraine.
    The oil transport contract has been given to LDZ Cargo mainly for one reason Operail has denied the transport of oil in tank Cars of Russian / Belarusian origin. And because of that, the company has lost a big margin of money and with this, another "Fallen Flag" will most likely be written into the history books.
    What Will Happen to the GE's?
    From what I've been talking with friends from Estonia, they say that they'll be most likely taken over by another carrier, some say scrap, some say long-term storage. Until Operail doesn't go bankrupt, we won't know the answer to this question. One thing is certain the rebuilt Conrail C30-7A's now C30-M's will still be running.
    I wish luck to the company and its workers for the future and hopefully, things will change for the better 👍
    Update: 11.03.23 / 03.11.23
    Only 3 C36-7i left running in Estonia. The end is near ladies and gents!
    Update! 08/05.23
    6 C36'-7s have been reactivated! Operail regained half of its margin of the freight contract. They have started to transport goods in freight cars of Russian origin again. We'll just have to wait and see what will happen when Putin decides to do something stupid again....
    Update: 11.25.23
    Per a friend from Estonia via Instagram. The C36-7's fate has been sealed. They are destined for the scrapper's torch. With the Lithuanian LTG Cargo now coming into the Estonian Market, this will be the final blow for Estonia's operation. I've talked with a couple of friends about the fact that there is a chance to save one for preservation.
    HAHAHA
    No
    Rail preservation in Estonia practically does not exist. It is safe to say that the era of the GEs in Estonia is over.
    P.S
    I wish I could buy off the Leslie's Horns and GE Bells lol
    Update: 11.28.23
    36 C36-7i's have been sold for scrap. They will be transported to the scrappers soon. 21 remain in Operail' roster
    instagram.com/p/C0LumSlIY_-/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
    Update: 01.21.2024
    THE SCRAPPING HAS BEGUN!
    The first 8 out of 36 - C36-7' are in the process of being scrapped in Tapa behind the Operail shops.
    Yesterday on the 20th of January 2024 - C36-7i #1520 departed Muuga's Freight Yard with C36-7' #1530, #1510, #1515, #1550, #1525, #1548, #1557, #1534, #1506 & 13 Freight cars bound for Padilski. The mentioned C36-7 were en route to Padilski for scrap.
    MAJOR NOTE:
    21 Units will remain in the Operail fleet in operable condition. Currently, 9 are active. 12 are in storage. There isn't a big enough volume of traffic to keep up maintaining these units hence why many of them are heading for scrap. But the C36-7 era in Estonia won't last for long cause Operail tested two of their C30-M locos for mainline freight service recently and the tests were successful. It is only a matter of time before the C36-7' will be replaced completely. Let us wait and see what the future will give us.
    If you're reading this and you always wanted to head to Estonia just to catch these beats. Do it now before it is too late. With the war in Ukraine and Russian politics still being little b*tch boys. It is very unlikely traffic will rise again. Time will only show.

    A to ciekawe- w Estonii amerykańskie lokomotywy zastąpiły M62, które w Polsce prywata wręcz kocha i ściąga za wschodniej granicy kolejne.

    • @lhsboyproductions3446
      @lhsboyproductions3446  3 года назад

      @TSZSpotter
      Bierz jeszcze pod uwagę że faktycznie ściągają z za granicy Gagariny. Ale je natychmiast modernizują po tym jak wjedzie na teren Pesy. Z tego co mi wiadomo, tylko 3 byłe M62 kolei Estońskich jeżdżą w Polsce z 14D40. Reszta to już zmodernizowano, albo siedzą we Włoszczowicach na terenie Rail Polski zbierając rdzę do kolekcji.

      @Mansfield_Depot_Connecticut_Rail_Productions
      No it's a air whistle. All rail vehicles that run in Russia, and all vehicles in the former USSR puppet states, require to have at least 2 sets (Or 1) of horns on both ends, and 1 air whistle on both ends as well. But that depends if the engine has a cab on both sides.
