Billy's Strat sounds like it's from outer space in this song. It's perfect and amazing.
Great way to say it
It's the effects. Fuzz for sustain and an analogue delay (Memory Man?) for the ambience. The delay reacts on how hard he's playing too, which is really cool! Great version of the song regardless, I love the shoegazey, dense guitar sounds.
@@nedim_guitari’ve always thought billy was a shoegazer at heart, i mean he is a big swervedriver and mbv fan
@@brettharvey716 He is. He liked Eddie Van Halen when he was a teenage shredder, but also The Cure, which was his goth thing, and obviously MBV... He even mentioned Jane's Addiction in an interview, and you can hear it on Gish, with those slow, quieter, break passages.
yes.... remind me of songs by band " Go With Strangers " .... .. same vibe . ..
One of my dads last Facebook posts, means a lot.
Good choice
Thinking of you and your loss
RIP your dad
Good daddy
Sinto muito mn força 😔✊
This is how you do a cover. They made this song their own. It's amazing.
Well Said.;-)
that's what she said
Totally agree, that was awesome.
Muito bom mesmo
I don't think Billy would agree with that. Basically because they had been friends a long time and when you listen to the words and the song and understand them and allow it to paint a picture in your head and then visualize how it relates to Bowie dying and making that transformation between you and there whatever there is, that's pretty deep especially performing it with that image in your mind. Having written those lyrics so long ago to then have them performed again creating that perspective it's f****** emotional and intense. I don't know if I had held it together as well as Billy did. Need to get choked up in the live performance there's no doubt about it and I think I know why now.
They are not unhappy, they are damn concentrated to give us the best rendition of Space Oddity (besides the original) ever.
Exactly!
That kid is the best drummer they had since Jimmy
My god, the mixing man. That mixing! Bass on left, solo guitar on right, Billy and the drummer in between. It feels like I was there in front of them. This is the best cover of this music I've ever listened.
love or hate the vocals their is no disputing the talent of this band, they are fantastic musicians
agree. people either love or hate billy's voice. I didn't care for his vocals when I first started listening to them in my youth in the early 2000's. Now I'm diving back into their catalog 20 years later and examining them with a more mature ear and I've came to love it the more and more I listen. it's an acquired taste. he can be good singer when he wants to but his guitar work, melodies and songwriting have always been what has attracted me to SP
@Nicholad March Really similar experience I’ve been listening to them since the 90s I owned Siamese dream and always liked their singles but could never fully get on board mostly cuz his voice but this last year I’ve been diving into their catalog and first was amazed at how many great sonfmgs they had which I hadn’t heard but also really started coming around on his voice and they’ve been one of my favorite bands this past year
Thing is I get why people might find his voice 'different' but when I heard Cherub Rock mega MEGA loud in an alt club in the autumn of 93...his delicate/harsh vocals and the way it wove through the guitar blew my mind and I couldn't imagine his songs any other way. I went shopping very hungover the next day and bought Siamese Dream and Gish, sat for hours with friends listening to them, and Mellon Collie, debated and ultimately loved where they went with Adore... And was again totally blown away by Stand Inside Your Love and The Everlasting Gaze.
The band was always the antidote to the 'cock rock' and I think his voice is paramount in that.
This is VILE!
My favorite song by David Bowie, preformed by one of my most favorite bands. It's a dream come true!
Schroeder's solo at 3:35 actually gave me the strongest chills I've ever had, incredible work!!!
He killed it huh
@@BosworthMcG he killed it but in a good meaning!!!
Rooftop. Space Oddity. Austin, Texas. Guitar Center. Smashing Pumpkins. Take a journey back to SXSW 2013.
You need to post all the performances from this episode. Really want to hear a particular song toward the end more. I don't know the name of the song.
One of the best Pumpkins performances ever. Epic.
A most blistering performance...Fantastic.
Wow...didn't know that. Yeah, everyone brings their A game to SXSW.
Perhaps the best SP rendition of this song.
whoever that drummer is is amazing
+jack harkness Mike Byrne
he does overplay it. i find him particularly obnoxious as a player. he is no jimmy, but oh well. Billy seemed to think he was good enough..
I watched this exact band members play live back in 2013. I'm not a musician but my friends are, and we all agreed in one thing, the drummer was almost too good to be true, all my musician friends said that he was "perfect", didn't even made 1 single small mistake during the performance. He is insanely good believe me, probably watching from your home you can kinda feel that he is overplaying it, but live is a completely different story believe me. I went to the festival to watch another band that was gonna play before them and left the place with the feeling that I had watch the best live performance ever, and I have seen quite a few believe me. My point is, sometimes when you watch/hear something in your computer or smartphone that was made to be watched live, it can give you a different idea of what it actually is.
Mike Byrne is a beast. Check him out in one of his other projects, Bearcubbin

Not Jimmy tho,No one can beat Jimmy
Gru can rock the guitar
Mr. Doman 🙄
Tasty little chops in there, innit?
Please leave Mr Doman
@@magikalunikorn1981 kkkkk
that’s what i thought
Gru is a man of many talents
Mind. Blown. New drummer is a beast!
May you rest in peace, David Bowie.

Time is passing too fast
Now that’s what you call an epic cover
What an amazing interpretation! RIP Starman
Holy shit guitar tones here are so thick
Good old Big Muff Op-Amp pedal!
Thank God billy's got an amazing drummer and killer guitarist too!!!!!
Wow spectacular drumming.
Billys guitar tone is fantastic
Greatest cover of this song ever.
Literally it’s 2018 and my first time hearing this and now it’s my favorite cover
I would totally pay to see bands on city rooftop gigs like that, that's so sick!
I could watch this again and again, absolutely love this performance!
they are Bowie fans and Bowie liked them he invited them to play a song with him at his Birthday Bash concert at the Madison Square Garden in 1997. there is the video of the entire concert (Dave Grohl Robert Smith Lou Reed and the Pixies singer were there too).
Long time SP fan here, just wanted to say that the new incarnation of SP is brilliant.
Nicole, Mike, John, and of course Billy.
I Completely Agree! Just watched this Guitar Sessions episode! Loved It!! Billy is Superb as Usual as is the rest of the Group!! Good to see them again! Been awhile for me!! Thumbs way up here!!
You are correct... but you are also batman... quit hiding behind that other alter ego...
Underrated lineup. Mike kills it
It’s Jeff not john
My gosh, this is just beautiful!
Whoever is i charge of these recording is doing an awesome job! These really are top notch, from a performance standpoint and technical standpoint!
My favorite line-up for the Smashing Pumpkins. Not sure why Billy got rid of these people, but at the end of the day it's his band.
Highly agree with this.
i mean, jeff schroeder is still in the band
one of the best rock covers
la guitarra de billy , ya con un buen de años encima, y aun sonando con madre... =respect tnx billy por el cover!!
David Bowie is proud
great cover!
What a version! What a drummer!
Yep drummer is incredible. I wish the band sounded more like this generally than a sort of soft pop rock. If you can do this why not do more of the same all of the time.
He basically took this song and made it his own... Gotta love The Smashing Pumpkins
Nunca me han llamado la atención los Smashing Pumpkins, pero... esta versión es simplemente MARAVILLOSA!!!!! Bowie hizo esta obra de arte pero los Smashing me han hecho volar. Gracias, gracias y gracias por este trabajo.
this song was in my head all day! now I'm led to 1 of my all time fave bands covering it! also, I LOVE Billy, and some ppl can pull off the shaved head... he is NOT one of those ppl, he's turning into the human egg.
Smashing Pumpkins para sempre
Beautiful version. Sweet.
Billy Corgan's singing voice is a medium of expression - just as the band's music is. Listen to the interviews with Nic Harcourt, Billy, and the band. They are insightful, skilled, creative musical artists. I love the music this band is making!
The smashing pumpkins sound is a journey love it love this song this performance and David thanks so much for all miss you man!!!
Incredibly emotional performance.
I can't not hear how the drum kit adds so much power to this arrangement. I assume it's Chamberlain killing the skins...he left nothing out. Insane how he ties it all together here. Corgin & friends made this classic new again.
During this period of the band's history the guy ripping on drums is Mike Byrne but I do agree he absolutely kills it on this track.
@johnjohnsonf739 Thanks for that factoid. And yes, it's an amazing arrangement and Byrne nails it in every way.
Probably the most enjoyable, emotionally power driven cover I know of.
Billy wouldn't have performed anything less than a masterpiece for his friend Bowie.
Fantastic cover. Love Billy's 70s Strat
god damn this is really fucking good and that drummer is killing it!
I wasn't sure if I'd dig this when I clicked the link, but it turned out to be pretty damn good. I especially dig the second guitarist's tone and playing!
Spine chills. Up and down. So many of them.
That was EPIC!
As far as I've seen this is the only David Bowie cover not to have dozens of hate comments from hard core Bowie fans. That's the beauty of Smashing Pumpkins and Billy in general, you can feel the love; respect; and talent dripping from each word sang; each string picked; and each drum slammed!
i am a huge bowie fan but this cover is different and amazing
The Last Shadow Puppets cover of Moonage Daydream video barely has hate comments lol
Una delle migliori cover in circolazione, di sicuro. Bellissima.
Già, i Pumpkins non deludono mai
My favorite band and my favorite by Bowie ❤️ I love it.
GREAT COVER!!!
im Speechless , all i can say this was the best Respect to Bowie...Masterpiece -_-
Billy and his amazing voice. That cover is pretty!! Good MUSIC!!
the best line up
Great video quality and cover. I heard this at the American Airlines Arena in Miami recently. Loved it!
Great drum fill and lead guitar!
Great Cover. Oceania is my favorite pumpkins album
everything about this video is perfect
I wish Billy would have continued with this crew.
No.
@@alukuhito Yes
@@Jointanatomy I said "no".
@@alukuhito Aha!
BRILLIANT. Billy in no dress is great too 😁
The Smashing Pumpkins are better than ever!
Love the dynamics. I don't like covers, but it's fun to hear SP do em.
This is simply amazing
OOuh LLOOWWDd !!! What have they done, majestic rendition.
for me, simply, the best version of this song.
they are feeling it.
Love this version🧡🧡
I was 14. Now I'm 37. Still....so nice...
The real perfection, a very Pumpkins tone collides with Great Bowie.
Best line up ever
I think the best way to have this kind of sound, is to have a really long modern reverb (I have a Neunaber wet stereo reverb, and it's perfect for that), you can add a delay and a chorus to make this sound even more "spatial". (and he also uses a very dirty sound that you can obtain with an overdrive or maybe a fuzz) ;)
Fuckin powerful and fuckin awesome cover, Mike is like a straight descendants from Jimmy and the guitar just so perfect, glad Smashing Pumpkins is still rockin till now :D
Awesome simply awesome
Kids this is how you do a cover... A cover isn’t replicating every note that’s hit in a song. Hence the word cover not replica..
great live sound.
they're Smashing it
well done billy, geez loved it 🖤
Love can last forever ♥️
pure art
Billy is a guitar god.
The other guy shreds though!
then what does that make Dime?
YO a peep fan!
@@NykeESS Billy can shred too, even before Pumpkins.
We are proud of these guitar sounds. Thanks to Billy and Jeff to choose our amp modules. Salvation Mods
Spotify - Please!
That drummer though! And stellar cover.
This would be absolute perfect with Bowie (RIP) and Billy singing backup..
R.I.P. David Bowie!! A huge lost for us all!!
Stunning
This is amazing man
what a drummer...
Wow that was a cool cover my the Pumpkins 🎸
way beyond epic
I got a major crush on the bass player 😍🔥
I blast this when I’m feeling down
She killing that bass
Smashing Outstanding .... what a performance !!!!!
I agree with you, Billys voice is beautiful
The drummer as a beast
