In the book of Numbers 18, the recipient of the tithe, the Levite is to give to the priest a tenth (10%) of the tithe of produce that the former received from the Israelites. It applies only to agricultural produce grown in the Land of Israel. That is according rhe Mosaic Law.
According to the Rabbinical interpretation, In the Hebrew Bible, the terumah ('offering') was regarded as a kind of sacred korban (also 'offering'), The Tithe was a sacrificifial offering It could be eaten only by JEWISH PRIESTS. and their families, had to be ritually pure, had to be eaten while in a state of ritual purity, and could not be taken out of the land of Israel.
In Hebrews 7:5 "The sons of Levi receive the priestly office have a command according to the law to collect a tenth from the people, that is from their fellow" ISRAELITES."
Tithing in itself was a Jewish ritual, A law and a regulation within the Mosaic Law, to the Children of Israel, But the Writter of Hebrews, further emphasizes , in verse 18 & 19" The former regulations was set aside because it was weak & useless, for the law made Nothing perfect & a better hope is introduced by which we draw near to God. "and that is Christ..
Paul and the Apostles understood it better, the reason they wrote the book of Hebrews to the Jews, who were still stack to their old Jewish traditions inpite of Getting saved and embracing Christianity.
There is no biblical world where Christianity can ever dwell in the Same house with Tithing, You might as well bring back the sin offering, burnt offering, whole offering, heave offering, Passover sacrifice, meal offering, wave offering, peace offering, drink offering, thank offering, dough offering, incense offering, red heifer, scapegoat, first fruits, etc.. into the Church, because Tithing is still one with its brothers,why hold unto one and forsake the rest..but you couldn't, why? Because Christians are not Judaist, neither does Christianity conform to the Mosaic Laws in terms of rituals and Jewish traditions.
And if they are so much into this Jewish Ritual, they might as well embrace it as A whole, And include the The Second tithing (consumed by the producer) , Poor man's tithing (given to the needy) & the cattle tithe (sacrificed at the temple) and even pay homage to the sabbatical year while they are at it.
Paul and the rest of the Apostles never did they ever emphasize on tithing, Because they walked in the revelation that they were no longer part of a Religion (Judaism) that they had already died to when they accepted Christ as their Lord and savior..
Evangelical Tithing is a Scam, that needs to be addressed, these Church leaders are Not Jewish priest, Christianity is not orthodox Judaism neither was tithe a Money offering but Farm produce.
When it comes to matters of giving, Cheeful giving & Charity its The Christian Creed not tithing 2 Corinthians 9 :7 " Each one of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under cumpulsion for God loves a cheerful giver." 2 Corinthians 8:12-13 "for if the eagerness is there, it is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have. It is not that there may be relief for others & hardship for you, but it is a question of EQUALITY." other than this, its Coercion, manipulation, deception & robbery..
The purpose of Replacement Theology/Supersessionism birthed by St. Paul. was to make us all to arrive to the cross, testifying to the gospel of the grace of God by the blood of the everlasting Covenant, but not to take the Old Covenant breaking it into fragments and polishing some up, and fitting them into the New.
