Unpopular opinion: I think Belfour's green eagle mask from his time with the Stars is actually better: the gold one isn't great, but the eagles really pop in front of the green background.
Im sorry but CUJO's best mask was in St.Louis, it gets over shadowed because Toronto has such a bigger market but i still think it should get the respect it deserves
I actually like the St. Louis one better than his Oilers, original Toronto and Detroit masks. However, I feel like when he came back to Toronto for like 21 games in 2008, his new Toronto mask was the best.
I loved so many of those old masks from the 70's.. Cheevers was unique and for me that made it tops and Gratton... loved that and really, it set a new standard seen for todays masks. Too many of them back then were painted by the goalies themselves but the missing cage leaves more room for art. And that beak.. actually was a common mask.. worn by many including Mike Liut, and Palmateer.
Putting kidds mask above kippers 04 finals run mask is crazy to me, but i also started watching hockey in 04 as a kid in calgary so i may be biased lmao. Also I think Alex Auld had a hayward/vanbiesbrouck type mask, with a killer orca on it. Also i woulda put Nikolai Khabibulins mask up there, i always loved the “bulin wall” pun he put at the bottom of his mask
Yes, Auld's was great! The Bulin Wall was a great nickname as well. Kipper's mask was great, but cartoon skulls compared to the more realistic style of a dragon doesn't quite compare in my eyes. Markstrom's masks are the best use of skulls I've seen, personally.
Beezer’s Panther mask is my ALL time fave, gotta say I really don’t like Freddy Andersen’s mask ( it’s YOUR list , just my opinion lol) although I appreciate the details & artistry
Is it mostly the Hurricane logo outline on it, or you're just not a big fan of that style of art (even though you can appreciate the artistry)? Edit: that Panthers mask is so great though eh? I originally edited this to say thanks for enduring my Brodeur comments in this video, but I realized that you were more struck by ranking of him as a goalie in general when I made that weird voice looking at Ned's legend mask haha. That video series took so long that sometimes I forget what I said lol :p
It just doesn't look as good as his 08-09 Leafs mask to me. Obviously one of the least iconic times of his career by far, but still the best Cujo mask to me
Call me old school but here's a rule.... if you can't see the design from the stands or low res tv... what's the point? The masks you like are too busy IMO. Plus it doesn't help you're a Flames fan. I think the best mask was 1987 Grant Fuhr's classic. Number two would be his 1984 mask lol so make another video.
In general, I'm inclined to agree with you. "Too busy" is my most common complaint about mask designs and they seem to get busier with each passing year. The artwork is impressive, no doubt, but if you can't tell what it is without a magnifying glass, what's the point? There are some busy-ish ones on this list, but on average I thought he was favouring simpler ones. Although he did choose Cujo's busiest variation. 🫤
I have never seen that Godzilla mask. Thats pretty sick. As a leafs fan though I gotta say CUJO's mask is number 1! It's just very ahead of it's time.
For someone that loves the masks that have the face as a “part of the design”, I’m surprised that you didn’t include Vesa Toskala 😮
Yeah that's definitely a good one too. I just personally think Markstrom has the best version of skull type stuff as a surrounding face
Gerry Cheevers is my favorite goalie mask

I'm starting to love his San Jose Sharks teal version the most haha
As a huge Martin Brodeur, I completely agree with you on his helmet!

Yeah I did see Liut had that too, but when it's on a Penguin player, it's just the absolute best haha
I totally remember those mcdonalds masks, lol
Glad you threw that in there!
Solid Video
Bravo for mentioning the Gerry Cheevers mask
My nr 1 by far is Robin Lehner's jester head mask when he played for the Buffalo Sabres.
In Flames we trust.
Andy Moog - Boston Bruins
Stephane Fiset - LA Kings
Roberto Luongo - Pink Panther mask
Kelly Hrudey- Hollywood mask
Did I miss it or did Kipper for some reason get left out of the entire goalie mask conversation? (Miikka Kiprusoff)
Yeah that was one of the "there will be snubs" casualties that I didn't cover during my honourable mentions.
I was thinking "if cujo isn't on the list it's blasphemy"
Stéphane Fiset

Should have included Henrik Lundqvist's Mike Richter inspired mask as an HM.
Possibly, but I do prefer the original much more.
osgoode?
Zilla is also my fav, caps are my favorite team and godzilla is on of my favorite franchises
Makes sense haha. But nice 👍👍
Ryan Miller had some killer masks while in Buffalo.
Michel Dion straight outta eyes wide shut
Yeyeyeyeeeee

Ummmm. Murray Bannerman?
It's a good one, definitely a classic, but I don't even know if I'd have it in my top 50.
Culos St Louis masks were much better than the leafs ones. Way more detail and relevance to the city. Its the best mask of all time by far
It just doesn't look as good as his 08-09 Leafs mask to me. Obviously one of the least iconic times of his career by far, but still the best Cujo mask to me
Kolzig and roy
