Hi. In 2019 they had a 3-day event in SYV called Sidewaysfest, celebrating the 15th anniversary of the release of the film. It was AWESOME!! Hopefully they will do it again in 2024 for the 20th anniversary.
They’ve got two events for the 20th scheduled! You’ll need to look em up, as links don’t work here. September 27-29th, “Taste Of Santa Ynez” - looks like on Sunday the 29th - at the Hitching Post and a screening that night in Solvang, both of em hosted by Virginia Madsen (Maya). And… October 18-20th, author of the book, Rex Pickett, will be at Alisal Ranch for 3 days of Sideways activities. Hope all you deep diving fans can make it!
Thank you for this fantastic experience, even if it was only in pictures and video, it was great. The film is one of my great favourites and I wish I could go around the set myself, it was great to see how much fun you all had and it was all so well done. Thank you!
Sideways is my favorite movie and I’ve seen it countless times. You did an impressive job of replicating the scenes and visiting the locations. This was a joy to watch. Well done and thank you! Cheers!
I would have loved to see the bowling alley, but the wineries were no doubt the very best scenes in the movie. Its almost my top 10 of all time. I drove from LA to see the Hitching Post and Windmill in 2014 after seeing Sideways a dozen times.Inside much smaller than on screen. All us wine drinkers enjoy. Loved your visit to the liquor store. Thumbs up!
Omg u guys outdid yourselves. If we had a fan club, you'd be presidents for sure. So cool how the tenant shared an inside scoop with the pic. Great job, cheers! 🍷🤠
Ever since I posted this video, I have been contacted by a number of people. I was truly surprised how many true hardcore Sideways fans there are out there. It just goes to show how great the movie really is. Cheers!
Re-watching, again. It's 2023 Autumn Equinox. This never get's old. The attention to detail, location and camera angles are amazing. I'm thinking it must have taken you all month or so to get all the shots. Also, the final shot of the wedding between Jack and Christine that's in my hometown Montebello. The church is about half mile away. The whole length of your video is perfect for afterwork 2 glasses of chardonnay, pino grig, cab sauv, pinot noir....or dare I say merlot(I like the Coppola vineyard). Thanks again for creating this, living "sideways" and sharing this with the world.
Thank you for making this video. I believe that when we hit midlife, we can all see ourselves somewhere within Miles and Jack. The acting, setting and music really make this movie work. I make a point to view it once a year. Being a guy living in the midwest (Ohio) and beginning to (thaw out) from the pandemic your tour is a bright spot in order to get moving in life, again. Well wishes.......cheers!
Great Video! I seen Sideways so many times it never gets old. I can't believe that you were able to find all of the locations that were in the movie. Incredible! I've always wanted to do this trip! Anyway great job and I enjoyed watching it.
We just came back from Solvang and went to Sanford and Fess Parker Wineries, then watched the movie. That was very cool that you recreated all the scenes. What was funny is got gas at that Shell Gas Station and paid $5.24 per gallon, in the movie it was $1.91 per gallon! Whoa!
I know this was like 5 years ago wondering what it would be like in 2022 if they get to another one anyway I've noticed that you included everything including the fast food restaurant at the end good job and God bless
Thanks for the trip home. I lived in Solvang for ten years and left two weeks before filming began, I knew Mr. Parker and Louis Lucas of Lucas/Lewellen. Played tennis with both. Mike Brown, a good tennis player and owner of a new winery Kalyra, asked i would do a painting of the Outback, Mike is from Australia, for his label. I still have a copy of it in my portfolio. Whenever I get homesick I watch the movie. You should have taken a side trip to El Rancho Market. Best meat department on the West Coast. I think I'll watch the movie one more time.
Immediately after I saw this movie I wanted to go to California and take the same route and experience the same wines. The movie just struck a chord with me and reminded me of my college days and trips with a couple buddies. Now years later and after seeing the movie at least a dozen times over the years, I enjoy the movie more but I'm even less capable of making it happen. So when I saw your trip I was thrilled beyond measure. I was able to experience it through you guys, and I can not express how much I enjoyed the fact you shared your trip. You fused it so well with images from the film. Thank you so much!
Thanks! It's definitely worth the trip. We had so much fun. We just got back from our 12th trip there last week. The rain and flooding was pretty crazy.
Hi Frank, they must have recently sold it. I wonder how much it sold for. I remember seeing them with the Saab at Sidewaysfest in Oct 2019. They had the car parked at a few of the weekend events and would even let you sit in it and take pictures. The owners were really cool.
Speaking of Sideways trivia, a few hardcore Sideways fans (including myself) have created some movie quizzes that are geared for the more serious fans and not the average viewer. The quiz questions range in difficulty from moderate to HARD. If you are interested in taking a "Deep Dive" Sideways quiz feel free to email me a ericlind1ATyahooDOTcom. Cheers.
Just watched this. So cool. It's my favorite movie of all time and the books are great as well. My fiancè and I love wine touring and have been planning and hoping to do this for our honeymoon one day. Saving money for now all the way from Pennsylvania.
Thanks. FYI there are a lot of places in the book that aren't in the movie that you can go too as well in the Santa Ynez Valley. When you go I'm sure you will have a really good trip :)
Awesome. Believe me or not, I went to high school with Thomas Haden Church, then Tom Quesada, in Harlingen, Texas. A couple of years ago, I went on a work trip to the Santa Maria area, and did make the pilgrimage to as many of the locations as possible. Best work trip ever.
Great job. You four really did your homework. I felt like I was revisiting the movie again watching this. Your re-enactments made me laugh. Cammie's house. Seriously!!! Also, the music scoring was great. Keep on.
Hey guys! We are pretty passionate about the movie as well! We even bought a Saab just like the one in the movie and still own it 😊. Any thoughts on getting together for the twenty year anniversary? I communicated with Rex and he’s still on the fence but we can make it happen! Thoughts?
I went to the 15th Anniversary in October of 2019 and I still consider it "Three Days of Heaven" lol!! There were so many Sideways fans there. I haven't heard anything yet about the 20th Anniversary but I'd be surprised if they did nothing. Feel free to email me at ericlind1ATyahooDOTcom and if I hear anything will let you know.
Excellent rendition and compilation of Sideways. Like the movie, I didnt want your video to end. Looks like you had a lot of fun putting this together too. Great job!
Triple thumbs-up!!! We LOVE THIS movie and visiting the SYV!! You guys did an AWESOME job!!! We've visited most of the places on here but you guys took it to whole other level, WOW!!! Simply amazed! We'll be back in Solvang next week, watching this got me more excited! Great job putting it all together!!! 👍👍👍😊😊😊
Thanks!! I really appreciate your "triple thumbs up". I spent A LOT of time researching filming locations before we headed up there. The many, many hours of research and studying the film was really fun though. Have a great trip to SYV, and drink a glass of pino for me when you are up there ;)
We just came back from there a week ago. Wish I had seen this vid before we left. Ha! I've always been interested in these movie location vids. Great job! (Did they really build an entire condo complex around that giant tree? If so, kudos to the the architects.)
This was great! I have been out there several times...Mainly Napa/Sonoma at first. But after Sideways, I started hanging in the Central Coast more and more.. This really made me smile. My wife has NEVER been to wine country, and Im breezing her through Napa/Sonoma and headed south to the Sideways area...again! My bet is she'll like it better there. Napa way too busy these days. Pretty, but I am more in tune with Santa Ynez and Santa Maria Hills. Thanks of this video!
Awesome video! I only did half of what guys did. I went to San Luis Obispo and drove from there. Hopefully I can go back and visit the places I could not the first time. Keep enjoying life and traveling!
I truly enjoyed your video! I will be visiting the area soon and would love to do the Sideways tour also. Thanks so much! It brought back so many memories from the movie!
How awesome! My absolute favorite movie. My brother and I were out there for the first time in November 2015 for three days from New York -- stayed in the same room, hit several of the same wineries (LOVED the barn setting at Foxon), partied and shot pool until the wee hours at the Clubhouse Lounge (where I played "Two Tickets to Paradise" incessantly on the jukebox LOL), and couldn't get enough of the Hitching Post! We're hoping to get back there again this Fall! Thanks for this video -- it's fantastic! :)
Thanks Dean! Eddie Money will always be immortalized at the Clubhouse Lounge in my opinion lol! We are trying to get back up there again in couple months, hopefully mid-March this year. I'm really glad you liked the video. Cheers!
I got Netflix DVDs for my folks (in their 80s and used to love to go to theaters but not now..thanks Covid! ). It’s been fun to pick out movies and send to them...they just got this..I’m not sure if they have seen but def one of MY favorites! Thanks😀
Ok, be honest...how long had you talked about doing this before actually doing it- not since "04?? You guys are geeks! I am too, I watched to the end, a little jealous. Ha Love the PT Band part 🎸 Well done 🍷😎
Hi Jeff, I had probably talked about doing a film location tour since about 2008, but I didn't get serious about it until 2015. Yes, I geeked out hard researching all the locations. I actually enjoyed it. Cheers!
And you even went to Orcutt Burger! You guys really did your research! I absolutely loved watching this, especially since I just re-watched the movie after 10 years! What a gem of a movie. Great job you guys
you are my kind of people ...I have dissected the tour and surrounding wineries and towns for many years now. my favorite event is the annual Sanford pinot blending and lobster fest event every year in may ... epic. its a members only event but if your interested I can get you in.
Thanks! Shoot me an email if you get a chance. ericlind1ATyahoo.com . I LOVE lobster. Lobstering is my other favorite hobby (check out my instagram @elind01210 , it's full of my lobster pics). It's doubtful we could make it, since we currently live in Northern AZ and have 4 kids, however I would love to know what weekend it is, and I sincerely appreciate your offer.
I Love Solvang! Been going since I was a little kid when my Parents would take us. I'm 46 now, married with two kids. Solvang will always have a special place in my heart. Even more now because my Father in law passed away WHILE we were out there Dec 2018! So sad! :( Nonetheless, I love it there, I absolutely love the movie and holy crap you nailed it with all the spots! How in the heck did you find all these places?! You must have an inside connection lol 👏🏻 I thought I Loved the movie but you took it to another level! Love it! - Thank you 💯
Love, love, love it! I live in Wales, UK and have two small kids so this trip is pretty impossible. However I would love to do it and you guys have taken me as close I'm likely to be without being there. Outstanding work! Such dedication to the cause of Sideways.
Love your video . We just spent the day in Buellton and Solvang. Did hit up ALL the places you did but enough to have a great time. Love this movie so much!
Bravo Bravo Bravo! This here is amazing work! It must have taken you lots of planning to be able to do all this. Sideways is truly an underrated film. One of my top 5 favorite films of all time. I did a similar pilgrimage back in 2011. Were you able to find Stephanie's house and Maya's apartment? I tried to look for the bowling alley but learned that it got demolished. Never went to Mile's apartment because I didn't know where it was 9 years ago, I researched it and learned that The Sea Crest Apartment is actually in Santa Barbara and Mile's mother's house is in Goleta CA. Wanted to find the bench where Miles recited the quote "I'm like a smudge of excrement surging out to sea...." but didn't know where and couldn't find the location of where the famous tree is either. I dined at all four restaurants in the movie, but didn't know where the Denny's was. I also went to that Hamburger joint where Miles savored his treasured blanc wine 61' Château Cheval Blanc. Got to see and took some pictures inside room #234. I also went to the Santa Ynez Valley Hospital where Jack received his medical care. I went to the Armenian Church in Montebello as well and took some pictures. I will always treasure this movie.
Hi Kevin, thank you for your kind words. I posted this video a few years ago and since then I have found most of the scene locations. Yes and yes I have been able to locate both Stephanie's and Maya's house, also the "Denny's" but it's not a Denny's. If you want to know any specific locations feel free to email me at ericlind1ATyahooDOTcom. Also, myself and a few other fans have made a few Sideways quizzes. They range in difficulty from "moderate" to "expert level". Drop me a line if you want to take one. The fact you made it all the way to the Montebello Armenian Church shows your true appreciation level for this movie. I'm impressed!! Cheers.
"Ultimate" is right! No one is gonna beat this one! Well done! I've done two tours already but there is one location I'm not sure about. The breakfast on the way up. Pretty sure it's a Dennys in Oxnard. Any clue? Thank you!
Lol! I literally spent hours on Google Earth trying to find that breakfast spot!! I finally was able to figure it out. It's not the Denny's in Oxnard. Just email me at ericlind1ATyahooDOTcom if you are interested and want to know the exact location. 'mI so glad you enjoyed the video! Cheers!! :)
As I San Diegan I disappointed when I found out the burger place was in Santa Maria. I envisioned it somewhere on El Cajon Blvd and his apartment is in Goleta of all places. A block from where my sister owned a store in the 90's
So did I. When I first saw the movie, I thought Miles's apt was probably in OB. As it turns out, I believe only a few road scenes were actually filmed in San Diego.
This was well worth watching, you must've had an absolute blast during your time in the Santa Ynez Valley. One of my all-time favorite movies, never get tired of watching it. Wife and I have made this a bucket list location for sure. Oh, thanks for keeping your pants on during the shot at Cammi's house. You guys nailed pretty much every detail up to that point, so when I heard Snortin' Whiskey and saw your car crossing the tracks, I was like...uh-oh, are they gonna go there? :) Out of curiosity, which place had your favorite food & wine? If you had to recommend just one restaurant, where is it? I'm gonna guess the Hitching Post II, but maybe you found a hidden gem. Thanks again for posting and take care!
Hi Matt, thanks for your compliments. There are quite a few hidden gems, a lot to list and I don't really want to pick favorites here. Feel free to email me at ericlind1ATyahooDOTcom if you want some recommendations. Cheers.
This video is awesome! I’m planning a Sideways inspired trip to the area with friends for next year. I’ve been collecting all the addresses but there are some I cant find that you visited. How did you find some of the locations like the convenience store and the hill Miles and Jack run down? Great work!!
Hi and thanks! Most of the locations I found through hours of research and google earth lol. Some were actually pretty hard to find. If you have any questions on any specific locations feel free to email me at ericlind1ATyahooDOTcom. Cheers.
This is great! Whoever planned this must be really smart. I've been to Solvang before. I didn't like their wines or food. Very touristy. Santa Barbara or Agua Dulce has much better wines.
Not too long into the video I thought, what the heck? There's someone else out there who found all these locations too?!! The on-ramp in SD. The walnut orchard. Maya's house! One I couldn't find was the coffee shop/bakery depicted in the film as near Miles' place, where Miles got the spinach croissant. Do you have that location?
Hi Joey, if you are interested in specific locations, just email me at ericlind1ATyahooDOTcom. It's been about six years since I made this video. I pretty much know all the locations now, with the exception of 2 very short minor scenes.
this is marvelous! thanks so much for posting your efforts. I read the book several years ago. I have seen the movie several times. watched it again recently and wondered what might have happened to that tree or was that wallet grab crack house ever rehabilitated? mystery solved as of 2016 :)
@@ottoman1252007 Hi would you mind if I sent you an email about some of the locations. I have been to many but some of them I have never been able to figure out.
Rewatching ur epic sideways tribute. Its 2022 now. Almost 20
yrs ago. Maybe time for a reunion. Miles says, "please"

I'd say you are right on the money, yeah
Thank you for this fantastic experience, even if it was only in pictures and video, it was great.
The film is one of my great favourites and I wish I could go around the set myself, it was great to see how much fun you all had and it was all so well done. Thank you!

@@ottoman1252007 thats sad. Thank you for your reply.
A lovely homage to one of the 21 century's greatest gems.
Sideways is a perfect movie. There were two more books and it would be nice to see a sequel made.
After watching this I have a hankering for a steak and potato with a pinot noir. Yum.

Well done 🍷😎
Hi Jeff, I had probably talked about doing a film location tour since about 2008, but I didn't get serious about it until 2015. Yes, I geeked out hard researching all the locations. I actually enjoyed it. Cheers!
Neat video.
Wow, you guys really did your research *and* had fun. Thanks for sharing!
That was awesome!!
Thanks!! Cheers!! :)
And you even went to Orcutt Burger! You guys really did your research! I absolutely loved watching this, especially since I just re-watched the movie after 10 years! What a gem of a movie. Great job you guys
“Im not drinkin’ fuckin merlot!”
"any"
LOL 😆😆😆
you are my kind of people ...I have dissected the tour and surrounding wineries and towns for many years now. my favorite event is the annual Sanford pinot blending and lobster fest event every year in may ... epic. its a members only event but if your interested I can get you in.
How good would it be to do this tour with the cast! Love this video you put together
Love it! - Thank you 💯
No connections at all. I am just extremely willful and determined lol! I glad you enjoyed it. My condolences about your Father-in-law. RIP.
Pretty impressive hitting that many spots. You guys really did your homework.
This was excellent. We did a similar tour a few years ago, and it brought back wonderful memories. Thanks so much.
Wow!!! That was awesome guys! I really enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love, love, love it! I live in Wales, UK and have two small kids so this trip is pretty impossible. However I would love to do it and you guys have taken me as close I'm likely to be without being there. Outstanding work! Such dedication to the cause of Sideways.
Thanks!! I appreciate it! I'm glad to hear that there are die-hard Sideways fans on the other side of the globe. Cheers!
Beautiful video. Reflective.
I love this video. Great job!!
My wife and I vacationed just north of the Sideways wine tour area, but she didnt want to go. Argh!
Love your video . We just spent the day in Buellton and Solvang. Did hit up ALL the places you did but enough to have a great time. Love this movie so much!
Very fun to watch this! Pure dedication...
Cheers.
Great video. I love the movie too and would like to check out some of the sites. Looks like you all had a great time finding everything. Fun to watch!
Awesome video!
Cheers!! :)
I LOVE this...!!! 💙💙💙
Out of curiosity, which place had your favorite food & wine? If you had to recommend just one restaurant, where is it? I'm gonna guess the Hitching Post II, but maybe you found a hidden gem. Thanks again for posting and take care!
Hi Matt, thanks for your compliments. There are quite a few hidden gems, a lot to list and I don't really want to pick favorites here. Feel free to email me at ericlind1ATyahooDOTcom if you want some recommendations. Cheers.
I am amazed that you found so many scene locations. You must have had an insiders help. LOL
Nope, no insider help. Just weeks and weeks of research lol.
Cheers.
You killed it. Thanks
Amazing! A Fantastic idea for a beautiful film! Heroes!
Awesome !
Well Done!
Wow wow
This is awesome. Great job!
Nice job I'm sure that was fun!
cool video i love that movie..by the way where is that location where you had the picnic outdoors?, and that area where Miles run down that hillside?
Just email me at ericlind1ATyahooDOTcom if you are interested in a particular location. Cheers.
@@ottoman1252007 Hi would you mind if I sent you an email about some of the locations. I have been to many but some of them I have never been able to figure out.
@@cd3585 Sure no prob.
That was rad. Thank you!
Awesome... Thank you
Hope you didn't have to run from Slovang to Buellton, that's five clicks Jackson! F**king A right it's five clicks! Lol
LOL 😆😆😆
I do love this vid its superb. But man does that guys beard grow quickly at Fess Parker...
Yep!! LoL!!
