I gave my igcse exam this year and around this time last year I was grinding through past papers and one thing I completely agree on is analyzing your mistakes, because that's what help you to realize some concepts gaps that you may have in any topic , My advice on weather to or not to solve a lot of past papers would depend on your mindset , if you already are quite tensed about examination then for some time focus on theory , solved examples and make your way up by solving easy and moderate quetions before getting your hands on past papers , however if you feel confident or have the mindset to not really care about the marks you get on the mocks but rather focus on what went wrong and work upon it then there is nothing better than solving past papers , I was late on my syllabus and was not getting good grades in the mocks at start but slowly and steadily after solving and analyzing a awful lot of papers I got all A* and had around 95%, to everyone attempting next year , all the best and it is all quite easy if you spend enough time on it
I am in agreement with you. It's definitely better to have a balance and not focus only on past papers, but also take time to revise the sections that you are weak at. Thank you for your videos. They are incredibly helpful.
Perfect timing as usual! Absolutely agree! This is applicable for all subjects and I really needed this. I've been grinding past papers without actually understanding the subject [accounting, as level] because my base is so weak. I'll focus on what I'm not understanding at and topically work through my areas of weakness. Thank you so much for this! :D - Min !!
I was worried, seeing the headline. But this makes good sense. Were we about to fall out? But no. Thankfully. Students need to 'learn how to learn' better. This sums it up nicely. Work a few papers, get to know your weaker areas, and don't run from these as feels natural. Focus on them all individually instead, as you say here. Then, revisit past papers and hopefully most of those areas have improved. Repeat process over and over until by February you are ready to just go through paper after paper with great confidence in most if not all areas.
This makes so much sense!! i think i do something quite familiar but usually i often skip the questions in confident in and do the ones im not too sure with, i would watch a youtube video for the ones i cant do, understand the concept then do more of those types of questions in other past papers, its like im trying to find challenges in them
Im going to use this method because what ever im struggling and how i do the papers are exactly what you said. now imgetting around 4-5 for maths with doing just past papers and i will update you in a weeks time to see how i improved
if you are a visual learner, try to amagine the movements of the math and how to solve them if your an auditory learner, try to slow down and ask yourself, say the roads over and over again so it’s in your head for example, if you can prove triangle abc is a right triangle, you can prove the circle bisecting it is a tangent you can repealtly say it for kethetietic learners or ones that love to touch or do to learn, they can use objects like paper and magnetic letters or number to help study for the next test/ assignment
How do I figure out what kind of learner I am? I don't get what works for me. I'm good at "reading" and understanding for theory subjects [economics, english] but that doesn't work for practical subjects like maths/ accounting...?
mabye since you are good at reading, try to read the steps carefully and recite them out loud. if you are with a group, listening tobother details and thoughts can help your brain memorize and learn the mathematics.
thank you so much for reminding me, I always do past papers and then I skip over the ones I don't understand to make me feel better about myself although deep down I know it won't do me any good on the exams.
Your videos have definitely helped improved my maths . I would like tips and advice on how much time a student should be spending on maths per day without burning out .
@@GingerMathematician I'd be the first to watch ...can't wait . My only regret is that I didn't start with your channel at the very start of the year . Great channel keep up the good work .
Tbh thinking about this I think during covid it wasn’t probably ideal! I think for 2022 exams for advanced information!! I think pre covid I fully supported past papers because it gives you practice on exam style questions. I think it’s an excellent idea to practice questions for all topics! More papers covers a variety of different topics and how they are written. I always say practice all exam boards regardless of your exam boards because it gives a variety of different sources of questions! Hope that makes sense let me know what you rhinkt

A great in-depth analysis - focusing on what went well and not shying away from areas of weakness is crucial 🙂👍
Please drop some revision technique! I'm currently doing AS Accounting and I can't quite wrap my head around it!

Great to see you back on the channel Min 😊 Yep a topic based approach is far more effective - not just in Maths but your other subjects as well 👍
This is really helpful! I see myself leaving the tangent and statistics questions in my past papers. Now, I'm gonna go watch your videos! Thanks
