- Hey everyone and welcome back to Zeepkist! Today I built a giant 69 shaped track out of 420 checkpoints. I have the maturity of a small child.

This is why Dapper was such an important add to the group. Balanced out the various personality types. I'm interested to see an episode with all 6 including Scrapman and Moonbo.

Started watching this at 4:20 PM PDT. Perfect! Also, making the rocks dark grey under shadows and grey checkpoints is pure PAIN. Dapper has the evil hat but the kAN true villain arc continues. Excited for a return to the kAN pro gamer arc and enjoying this in the meantime.

I absolutely never comment on videos but the discussion on checkpoints was absolutely massive in terms of community knowledge. This is why games like Zeep and Trackmania can never have live counters on splits while every traditional racing game can.
Maybe its just the Engineer to Engineer speak in it all but it was a glorious explanation by both as to why it happens.
it is technically possible but in practice it's almost impossible to pull off
in case yannic ever wants to implement this as a feature, he could simply add a review time to public tracks (so the track is available 30 minutes or an hour after uploading) and have trained AI model bots do a few quick runs of the and map it out, then use this map of the track as a basis for the calculation.
For a simpler method, track pieces could use checkpoint logic to give splits
@@paulkanja I think you got the only option in that last point. Every track piece would need to act as a checkpoint.
BUT beyond that, you would need every track piece to constantly gather data so it would be like the entire piece is a series of something like 10 hidden checkpoints.

as someone who is contrast colorblind particularly in greys i didnt notice there were rocks till you mentioned them and i was still confused cause i could only just barely see them

Despite everything the architects tried, this track was still somewhat efficient. Not as efficient as it could have been, but still somewhat efficient.

Get justMaki to make a "nightmode" where you have headlights. That would be awesome :D
7:57 I feel like you can approximate real-time time comparison by getting the vector of current player position with player's best ghost position at that exact time, calculating how much velocity contribution that is aligned with the position delta vector, then dividing the distance by velocity to get an approximate time (ahead or behind).
God, those booster particles are like knives in my eyeballs.
The HOA only allowed one color of checkpoint which happens to match the rocks.
The best way to fix the ingame live split issue is to draw a line where the validation time is, then where the most popular paths are, with forks in the road for shortcuts. Don't show this line to the players. Measure their progress by where they are on the line, measured where the line is closest to their current position. Don't display their split at all if they are EITHER off the player-placed track pieces or over a certain distance from the hidden line.

Rather than having a live split timer, having a ghost of your best time would work.
this reminds me of the "impossible" Lego Star wars podrace
this was a really cool track, i actually liked the clicking and i feel bad that they found a way to cheese it. the shadowed rocks were a clever challenge.
I remember when you first made the survival scrap mechanic videos. At that time my family just bought a new house. I still remember the smelll of everything lol.
I have a script that places checkpoints along an SVG path. Equidistant spacing for the given number of checkpoints and all. I showed it to Kosmo once.

i tried this track recently, and with the checkpoint update its impossible because you cant look ahead

I don’t really know much about the world of game devs and what not, other than the few I’ve seen on RUclips, but I do have to say that Yannic is my all time fav dev/creator 100%. I wanna buy zeepkist, and all his other games, just because of him lol (and of course because they’re great games)! Love the vids guys! Keep up the dream work
