    Why dont solar companies just offer buy the land from owners for more than market value instead of leasing if they have the cash

      Sometimes solar companies do just buy the land outright. Leasing is beneficial for the landowner who wants to retain ownership. Depending on the location only certain options will be available to solar developers. That's why LandGate is a marketplace for selling or leasing land, so depending on the owners discretion, they can opt to sell or lease. Most landowners choose to retain the land and earn the passive income.
