I've been watching a lot of Colloseum guides from Gnomonkey, Wizzy, Molgoatkirby, etc. I keep getting destroyed, which is fine. Thats part of learning. But I really want to just get the quiver and go back to some other goals I've had, then revisit this the melee/speed way later. So far, this guide makes the most sense. You're great at explaining things at an understandable pace, the Bob Ross of PVM if you will. Gonna give this method a shot and hopefully get some boss practice in. Keep it up! I subscribed :)

Great video. I hope you can do a video explaining how to handle when A and B spawn different styles. Unfortunately that didn't happen in this video, giving you the easiest possible combinations. I'm not having so much luck though, and keep getting different styles spawning on A and B in waves 5 or 6, etc. And then I die. :D
I have to say, Ive tried doing the colosseum without any guide or help and got at wave 8 max with barely any restores or brews left. This guide popped up today on my feed and here I am now, easily reaching wave 11 with quite a lot of resources left. All thanks to you! Amazing guide man, keep it up ❤

Great guide. Only thing is every wave is solved for you in this video. Ive had countless spawns with rangers and magers or lions/mage/range combo that spawn unsafe behind pillar. Would be nice to see clips of actual challenging set ups on spawn.

Only guide that got me to wave 10 first time watching ! Amazing work bro!! the 3 stack reset to opposing pillar was 900iq it went so smooth :) I got the quiver in a few more runs!

How was this compared to inferno? I got maxed gear for range/mage but no torva or scythe. I don’t have inferno and I’m afraid to even waste 1 month wiping there.
@@cheebusify IMO Its similar. There are simple methods to solve inferno with very minimal stress as well. I will be making an inferno guide in the near future as well. Probably gonna break it into 3 parts (wave 1-50, wave 51-68, and zuk). What I like about the colosseum is you get rewarded while learning. And it is a much shorter run. It is hard for me to say which one is "easier". But I know for a fact that they can both be made much simpler than many of the meta strats may lead you to believe.
Interesting video, but as far as I know isnt this an incredibly lucky run? Ive never seen you have a manticore + ranger/mager spawn on A + B. I've never reached wave 9 without that happening. Did you force that luck by using your engage starting tile?
I got somewhat lucky with wave 10+11 spawns, but my wave 6 was pretty nasty, especially once the melee + mager spawned. From what I have noticed, using the tick-perfect engage method leads to very spooned spawns VERY often. Sometimes you get bad invos, sometimes you get bad spawns, but this method seems to maximize the chance of getting spooned spawns to a VERY high degree. TLDR; It was lucky, but you get lucky spawns with this method VERY often.
Dont worry, I'll have an updated guide uploaded really soon (next couple days). I'm playing around with all the new invos right now, figuring out some new methods, and I'll share them real soon

I didn't know you could set up tick counters to actually count # of ticks, that seems useful in general to practice with timing pray flicking against monsters that attack at certain rates to build up to Colosseum. What's the plugin called? I use Visual Metronome and I don't know if it has that feature.

Glad I got to catch this, and thanks for the guide, I've a feeling I'll be using it in the next few days - the way you explain how to do these makes so much more sense than a lot of guides I've seen!
The difference is that the engage tile is on the same row as your pillar safespot tiles (A and B). If you do a tick perfect engage from the engage tile, you will escape enemy line of sight 1 tick earlier. This doesnt sound like much but it does many positive things for you: 1.) manticores will never charge their attack on engage unless they are one of monsters that are NOT safespotted. All other manticores will never see you on engage. 2.) when you escape their line of sight 1 tick early, they actually spend even more ticks pathing towards you. This gives you multiple seconds of reaction time. 3.) With advanced techniques, you can force all engage monsters that DO see you into an offtick rotation. We dont discuss that in this guide, because I think thats a higher level strat.
What is the solve for when you are on a wave and the A and B spawn have different monsters. Lets say a mage and a ranger. When running to the A tiles both will be on you when they come around the pillar. My runs pretty much end at 5 or 6 every time I get a spawn like this. At my skill level trying to flick both npc is pretty much out of the question. Any help would be appreciated
Something similar happened to me in my wave 6 on this guide. I had 2 rangers spawn near me, but when the meleer spawned he brought his mage buddy with him. At that point (or earlier) you should attempt running to a new pillar. If the wave just started, going south is convenient (just click brew while running.) If that doesnt work, go diagonal. I think wave 6 is literally one of the hardest waves of the run. Just stay high hp, keep prayer up, run to a new pillar, and keep brewing. You can catch your breath for a few seconds once you get to your new pillar and figure out what happens next.
Does running north east usually work for earlier waves like 6-7? I'm having the same problem where a manticore + ranger spawn south and I get combod out. Thanks
Often times, yes. But being northeast makes diagonal running kinda sketch. You can find yourself in a sticky situation if northeast doesnt work right away. That said, northeast can be a good strategy in 6/7 if you get a really nasty spawn. I've done that multiple times.
What do you suggest to someone who sometimes misclicks on pressing items or where I go in the game? I learned to gear switch going up and down instead of left and right since it feels easier for example but mainly needing advice to find out what to do when I click somewhere to run to and accidentally go to another tile or something gets dragged. How can I practice to become better at efficiently clicking? Thanks for the guide being more noob friendly for people like me
Hmmm... Well lets start with inventory. Make sure you use the "anti drag" plugin (it should be a base-plugin. no need to install). It helps with misclicks in inventory where you accidentally "drag" your item instead of clicking it. Its game changing. As for misclicking ingame, it happens to the best of us. sometimes we click on tiles we didnt mean to click on. The best advice I have is to not panic. One click at a time. Dont spam click around or your avatar can go crazy and now you have no idea whats going on. Stay calm, Go slow, If a mistake happens, dont panic
With Myopia on, barrage will always work at max distance... is this a bug? Any chance jagex will decide to patch that out? It seems very important for this method, but it definitely seems unintended.
It is super useful for this method, and the barrage/myopia strat is a major reason why the mage method is so simple relative to range/melee strategies. The barrage/myopia method has existed since day 1 launch. I was genuinely curious if they were gonna patch it out or not, but even after all the hotfixes + last week's update, they seem to be leaving it as is.
I know this is an old video but I hope you see and respond, what would be a viable enough alternative to the shadow? Would you just recommend camping barrages at that point?
Hi there, i died at wave 7 yesterday, was following the similar strat as ur for the wave start.. un fortunately i got a ranger and the big mager on the south side(right side) and manticore on the east side(top side), i died trying to solve it but got hit by everything due to panic.. what could have been the solution to the south spawn waves if u can tell
If you have 2 nasty monsters on your south side (right side) and youre not comfortable with offticking, its a decent idea to try running northeast. The monsters stack very well on the northeast side, and you might even safespot all of them. The only problem is that the minotaur cant be safespotted easily on that pillar. But at least it gives you a solid 30 seconds to figure out your next play while you prep for a potential minotaur spawn. Good luck! I'll be making a new guide very soon once the new invos come out
Awesome vid dude, this really helped me take things on one at a time. I did just die on wave 6 lmao, I'm not sure why (maybe i was a tick late leaving engage tile) but I had fremmys, a ranger and a mage target me on the south side of north pillar. Should I have ran to the opposite diagonal pillar?
GL king! And running diagonal is usually a good option, but it REALLY shines when you have a nasty 3/4 stack that you are trying to break up. If you dont have a 3/4 stack it is often safe to run to south pillar. You got this!
B5 tile was found on day 1 of release and is a great tile to engage from. But the engage tile I am using, if used tick perfectly (as shown in the vid) will give 1 additional tick before monsters can line-of-sight you. This seems insignificant, but it gives you a little more time to think, and it actually causes the monsters to path smoother, leading to more chances at an insta-solve!

Thanks for all the tips! From waves 7-11, I'm struggling when 2 spawn near the starting pillar and I have to move pillars.. then I get killed by the minitor since I can't safespot it on a different pillar. Any suggestions? Thanks
hmmm well you got 2 good options, unless you want to try offticking (which is up to you). Assuming you dont want to offtick, if you run southwest, you can potentially safespot the minotaur down there, but its really hard to stack the monsters correctly on the late waves, so it doesnt always work out. If you run northeast instead, its much easier to stack the monsters. And if a minotaur spawns with a mager you can even sometimes safespot the mager on the corner of the pillar, and deal with just the minotaur.
Made it to wave 11 with this guide so far, my biggest problem are enemies spawning on tile A and B at the same time and i start to panic... just need to get lucky with the spawns now
Often times if I get a very difficult spawn I will rotate to a nearby pillar once the melee spawns (see wave 6), then once things calm down a bit running diagonally can often solve the wave. But obviously every situation is different.
I think you’ve started you already planned to, but please make a new guide with the changes to myopia and the range fremmy. Your guide is the only one that’s significantly helped me and with myopia losing its freeness is gonna be a real bitch since I don’t have SotD or anything
Doesn't the description for myopia specifically say the range for autocast is reduced as well as ranged attacks? Is it a bug that you're able to barrage at max range?
It doesn't specifically mention autocasting. I have been wondering why the barrage range is not affected by myopia, but it's been this way since day 1 of launch. I was curious if they would change the barrage/myopia method with an update or not, but they seem to be leaving it as is. It's really convenient, and offers quite a bit of additional options to solve waves using the mage method

Learning a lot from this. Didn't even know what a "solve" was prior to this content and nobody really bothers teaching it. For example how you used the enemy main tile, which I knew impacted why it couldn't attack you, to be able to barrage it while safespotted? Genius. Had no idea. I was just getting crap solve after crap solve with very little idea what to actually do about it. Should still learn Leviathan before I try to get past wave 3 so I can do that rapid fire pray flick thing, but once I do that I'll definitely use this guide.
Quick question man, what is your recommendation for if you get a horrible spawn on wave 8-11? I have died multiple times on 11 because I just happen to get a ranger and manticore! I would like to run to the diagonal pillar but the Minotaur hasn’t spawned yet so I always feel like I can’t!
If 2 spawn south of you, and its wave 8-10 I often run to the NORTHEAST pillar. This often causes most monsters to get trapped immediately, and I can deal with a solo minotaur. If its wave 11, You can go northeast again, but the minotaur brings his mage buddy this time. Sometimes you can hug the pillar and deal with only one of them at a time.

After watching enough of these videos I feel like I can do this first or second try on my Ironman with whip and trident/ancient magics and BP. I can always BP the mage fremmy for health. And if it's a real bad spawn run diagonal or south column and it'll be ok
He's got such a good way of breaking things down There's simply no need to offtick everything all the time and risk death from one mistake Outside of speedruns, slow and steady is the way!
2 minions should not be spawning directly next to you if your engage is correct (tile, and tick perfect). It is still possible to have 2 minions path towards you, but if theyre spawning super close to you with zero reaction time something is wrong with the engage.

Blade definitely works. If you notice, throughout the video I use a TON of barrages instead of shadows, simply because of myopia. I assume a sang + sceptre would work well on a budget build, but honestly i havent tried using sang myself.

Struggled to get past wave 5, made it to wave 10 (didn't realize lions could attack same time when charged up and made this mistake turning corner to kill minotaur that was healing other lion, but pretty much had the wave solved) Sooooooooooooo doable wow, best guide to date! Will need that final boss one soon
Okay this actually works I can confirm. I would say it's like 80% chance on wave 6+, you get a really easy solve. Got my to my first time at the boss after trying this like 3 times.

At 29:50 you can attack the second mage from front tile with shadow/myopia3. Also at. 33:00 you can reach ranger with shadow. Thank you for the guide this is awesome
Personally I always stay far away from doom, scorps, bees, red flag, and totemic healing. I am willing to take Frailty, relentless, and reentry, but prefer to take them as late as possible. Anything else is totally fair game.

Running straight south (not diagonal) would have instasolved the wave. The minotaur would be stuck north, the manticore + double rangers would become a triple stack, the mager would get stuck in the triple stack, and i could deal with the 2nd manticore alone!

Usually find myself panicking or not being able to kill before reinforcements come out. What is your general strategy for that scenario?
@@SC-fv2zu Often times, if 2 monsters spawn south of you, and you are worried about reinforcements coming from your left, I like to run to the NORTH EAST pillar. This doesn't always work, but often times it causes most - if not all - of the monsters to get trapped just in time for the reinforcements.

I had some waves where different style enemies were same ticked against me went they approached the pillar. One would spawn on the “A” tile and the other the “B” tile in the center of the arena. Did I make a mistake that caused this, and if not how do I fix that without rotating around to the north side of the pillar (where more mobs will be same ticked against me)?

I have to say it's pretty frustrating that every guide on youtube seemingly gets no bad spawns...no disrespect to you and this is a great video but you never had to deal with two mobs at the start of a wave ever, and so far I've had that at least once in every run I've had past wave 7
I havent personally tried with trident. The main reason I like the mage setup for this strategy is for all the blood barrage opportunities (the fremmies, and the longrange 10 tile barrages). I think if you can fit the additional swaps in your inventory theres no harm using tbow. But you might lose out on the opportunity to use blood barrage to heal/longrange some mobs.

Yo man thanks for the guide. Your CoX guides did some serious work for me and I've already gotten to Sol 4 times (pb 55%, always die to tick perfect pray attack lol) with tactics from this vid. Question for you: what have you found to be the best move when you get a mager and ranger spawn on A and B? This still seems to be the situation that kills me the most on the waves. Thanks!!
Very proud of you! If you can get the boss to 50%, you can kill him too :) GL! As for the double A/B spawn, that's where it gets tricky. Assuming its wave 7, 8, or 11, according to my strat you would have your melee gear on, and your mage pray on. At that point I would do 1 of 2 things: 1.) wait for the monsters to get as close to the pillar as possible, and THEN rotate to a new pillar. This will require some quick thinking for which pillar to run to. Running north east is always a pretty safe option, but the minotaur can come charging in and mess you up again. You gotta play this one by ear. 2.) Or you can try off-ticking the mobs. This is much easier said than done, and IMO this is a high level technique. I try to avoid offticking when possible, and prefer pillar hopping in casual runs. NOTE: If you are hopping pillars, now is the time to start chugging brew. Just throw your mage or range pray on (depending on the wave), run, and start chugging! It's trivial, it's risky, but its the easiest method to get yourself a little breathing room (check my wave 6)

Its the "visual metronome" plugin! The plugin can put the tick counter in multiple locations.

I use visual metronome too :) Try playing around with the settings!

What’s the difference between the engage tile and B5? Are the spawns better or set certain ways?
The difference is that the engage tile is on the same row as your pillar safespot tiles (A and B). If you do a tick perfect engage from the engage tile, you will escape enemy line of sight 1 tick earlier. This doesnt sound like much but it does many positive things for you:
1.) manticores will never charge their attack on engage unless they are one of monsters that are NOT safespotted. All other manticores will never see you on engage.
2.) when you escape their line of sight 1 tick early, they actually spend even more ticks pathing towards you. This gives you multiple seconds of reaction time.
3.) With advanced techniques, you can force all engage monsters that DO see you into an offtick rotation. We dont discuss that in this guide, because I think thats a higher level strat.

What is the solve for when you are on a wave and the A and B spawn have different monsters. Lets say a mage and a ranger. When running to the A tiles both will be on you when they come around the pillar. My runs pretty much end at 5 or 6 every time I get a spawn like this. At my skill level trying to flick both npc is pretty much out of the question. Any help would be appreciated
Something similar happened to me in my wave 6 on this guide. I had 2 rangers spawn near me, but when the meleer spawned he brought his mage buddy with him. At that point (or earlier) you should attempt running to a new pillar. If the wave just started, going south is convenient (just click brew while running.) If that doesnt work, go diagonal.
I think wave 6 is literally one of the hardest waves of the run. Just stay high hp, keep prayer up, run to a new pillar, and keep brewing. You can catch your breath for a few seconds once you get to your new pillar and figure out what happens next.
Does running north east usually work for earlier waves like 6-7? I'm having the same problem where a manticore + ranger spawn south and I get combod out. Thanks
Often times, yes. But being northeast makes diagonal running kinda sketch. You can find yourself in a sticky situation if northeast doesnt work right away.
That said, northeast can be a good strategy in 6/7 if you get a really nasty spawn. I've done that multiple times.
What do you suggest to someone who sometimes misclicks on pressing items or where I go in the game? I learned to gear switch going up and down instead of left and right since it feels easier for example but mainly needing advice to find out what to do when I click somewhere to run to and accidentally go to another tile or something gets dragged. How can I practice to become better at efficiently clicking? Thanks for the guide being more noob friendly for people like me
Hmmm... Well lets start with inventory. Make sure you use the "anti drag" plugin (it should be a base-plugin. no need to install). It helps with misclicks in inventory where you accidentally "drag" your item instead of clicking it. Its game changing.
As for misclicking ingame, it happens to the best of us. sometimes we click on tiles we didnt mean to click on. The best advice I have is to not panic. One click at a time. Dont spam click around or your avatar can go crazy and now you have no idea whats going on. Stay calm, Go slow, If a mistake happens, dont panic
With Myopia on, barrage will always work at max distance... is this a bug? Any chance jagex will decide to patch that out? It seems very important for this method, but it definitely seems unintended.
It is super useful for this method, and the barrage/myopia strat is a major reason why the mage method is so simple relative to range/melee strategies.
The barrage/myopia method has existed since day 1 launch. I was genuinely curious if they were gonna patch it out or not, but even after all the hotfixes + last week's update, they seem to be leaving it as is.

The short answer is this: barrage works fine, but you can melee 1v1 monsters if they are isolated
Hi there, i died at wave 7 yesterday, was following the similar strat as ur for the wave start.. un fortunately i got a ranger and the big mager on the south side(right side) and manticore on the east side(top side), i died trying to solve it but got hit by everything due to panic.. what could have been the solution to the south spawn waves if u can tell
If you have 2 nasty monsters on your south side (right side) and youre not comfortable with offticking, its a decent idea to try running northeast. The monsters stack very well on the northeast side, and you might even safespot all of them. The only problem is that the minotaur cant be safespotted easily on that pillar. But at least it gives you a solid 30 seconds to figure out your next play while you prep for a potential minotaur spawn.

Awesome vid dude, this really helped me take things on one at a time. I did just die on wave 6 lmao, I'm not sure why (maybe i was a tick late leaving engage tile) but I had fremmys, a ranger and a mage target me on the south side of north pillar. Should I have ran to the opposite diagonal pillar?
GL king! And running diagonal is usually a good option, but it REALLY shines when you have a nasty 3/4 stack that you are trying to break up. If you dont have a 3/4 stack it is often safe to run to south pillar. You got this!

What is the B5 tile for? Ive seen on other videos that some people start on B5 rather than the engage tile, do you know the difference?
B5 tile was found on day 1 of release and is a great tile to engage from.
But the engage tile I am using, if used tick perfectly (as shown in the vid) will give 1 additional tick before monsters can line-of-sight you. This seems insignificant, but it gives you a little more time to think, and it actually causes the monsters to path smoother, leading to more chances at an insta-solve!

I shift-right-click the npcs and select "tag all". You can even do this on Sol Heredit while he is still sitting up in his throne!
Thanks for all the tips! From waves 7-11, I'm struggling when 2 spawn near the starting pillar and I have to move pillars.. then I get killed by the minitor since I can't safespot it on a different pillar. Any suggestions? Thanks
hmmm well you got 2 good options, unless you want to try offticking (which is up to you).
Assuming you dont want to offtick, if you run southwest, you can potentially safespot the minotaur down there, but its really hard to stack the monsters correctly on the late waves, so it doesnt always work out.
If you run northeast instead, its much easier to stack the monsters. And if a minotaur spawns with a mager you can even sometimes safespot the mager on the corner of the pillar, and deal with just the minotaur.

Made it to wave 11 with this guide so far, my biggest problem are enemies spawning on tile A and B at the same time and i start to panic... just need to get lucky with the spawns now
Often times if I get a very difficult spawn I will rotate to a nearby pillar once the melee spawns (see wave 6), then once things calm down a bit running diagonally can often solve the wave. But obviously every situation is different.

Doesn't the description for myopia specifically say the range for autocast is reduced as well as ranged attacks? Is it a bug that you're able to barrage at max range?
It doesn't specifically mention autocasting. I have been wondering why the barrage range is not affected by myopia, but it's been this way since day 1 of launch. I was curious if they would change the barrage/myopia method with an update or not, but they seem to be leaving it as is.
It's really convenient, and offers quite a bit of additional options to solve waves using the mage method

Learning a lot from this. Didn't even know what a "solve" was prior to this content and nobody really bothers teaching it. For example how you used the enemy main tile, which I knew impacted why it couldn't attack you, to be able to barrage it while safespotted? Genius. Had no idea. I was just getting crap solve after crap solve with very little idea what to actually do about it. Should still learn Leviathan before I try to get past wave 3 so I can do that rapid fire pray flick thing, but once I do that I'll definitely use this guide.
Quick question man, what is your recommendation for if you get a horrible spawn on wave 8-11? I have died multiple times on 11 because I just happen to get a ranger and manticore! I would like to run to the diagonal pillar but the Minotaur hasn’t spawned yet so I always feel like I can’t!
If 2 spawn south of you, and its wave 8-10 I often run to the NORTHEAST pillar. This often causes most monsters to get trapped immediately, and I can deal with a solo minotaur.
If its wave 11, You can go northeast again, but the minotaur brings his mage buddy this time. Sometimes you can hug the pillar and deal with only one of them at a time.

Why am i getting 2 minions spawning right in front of me with this method now? I am using the engage tile and clicking on 1. Any help?
2 minions should not be spawning directly next to you if your engage is correct (tile, and tick perfect). It is still possible to have 2 minions path towards you, but if theyre spawning super close to you with zero reaction time something is wrong with the engage.

Blade definitely works. If you notice, throughout the video I use a TON of barrages instead of shadows, simply because of myopia. I assume a sang + sceptre would work well on a budget build, but honestly i havent tried using sang myself.

Struggled to get past wave 5, made it to wave 10 (didn't realize lions could attack same time when charged up and made this mistake turning corner to kill minotaur that was healing other lion, but pretty much had the wave solved) Sooooooooooooo doable wow, best guide to date! Okay this actually works I can confirm. I would say it's like 80% chance on wave 6+, you get a really easy solve. Got my to my first time at the boss after trying this like 3 times.

I am willing to take Frailty, relentless, and reentry, but prefer to take them as late as possible.

Ranger max hit like 14 now. I think it makes the waves a lot harder. I still can’t get to the boss. Wave 11 max.
What would have been the solve for wave 10 if the Mager wasn’t safe spotted?
Running straight south (not diagonal) would have instasolved the wave. The minotaur would be stuck north, the manticore + double rangers would become a triple stack, the mager would get stuck in the triple stack, and i could deal with the 2nd manticore alone!

Usually find myself panicking or not being able to kill before reinforcements come out. What is your general strategy for that scenario?
@@SC-fv2zu Often times, if 2 monsters spawn south of you, and you are worried about reinforcements coming from your left, I like to run to the NORTH EAST pillar. This doesn't always work, but often times it causes most - if not all - of the monsters to get trapped just in time for the reinforcements.

I had some waves where different style enemies were same ticked against me went they approached the pillar. One would spawn on the “A” tile and the other the “B” tile in the center of the arena. Did I make a mistake that caused this, and if not how do I fix that without rotating around to the north side of the pillar (where more mobs will be same ticked against me)?

I have to say it's pretty frustrating that every guide on youtube seemingly gets no bad spawns...no disrespect to you and this is a great video but you never had to deal with two mobs at the start of a wave ever, and so far I've had that at least once in every run I've had past wave 7
Auto cast barrage does not work. I have to manually click barrage and click the enemy to not automatically be dragged towards the enemy with myopia on
I have tbow, blade and trident. If I were to bring trident instead of shadow, would you recommend bringing tbow as well?
I havent personally tried with trident. The main reason I like the mage setup for this strategy is for all the blood barrage opportunities (the fremmies, and the longrange 10 tile barrages).
I think if you can fit the additional swaps in your inventory theres no harm using tbow. But you might lose out on the opportunity to use blood barrage to heal/longrange some mobs.

Its similar. But if i remember correctly cerberus is 2 ticks per ghost? manticore is 1 tick per hit.

As for the double A/B spawn, that's where it gets tricky. Assuming its wave 7, 8, or 11, according to my strat you would have your melee gear on, and your mage pray on. At that point I would do 1 of 2 things:
1.) wait for the monsters to get as close to the pillar as possible, and THEN rotate to a new pillar. This will require some quick thinking for which pillar to run to. Running north east is always a pretty safe option, but the minotaur can come charging in and mess you up again. You gotta play this one by ear.
2.) Or you can try off-ticking the mobs. This is much easier said than done, and IMO this is a high level technique. I try to avoid offticking when possible, and prefer pillar hopping in casual runs.
NOTE: If you are hopping pillars, now is the time to start chugging brew. Just throw your mage or range pray on (depending on the wave), run, and start chugging! It's trivial, it's risky, but its the easiest method to get yourself a little breathing room (check my wave 6)
