  • What is an electric dream?
You can give a generative AI directions and then sometimes you get fun images. But what you can also do is simply say nothing, give no directions. Yes, what would you get then? I call this an 'electric dream'. We let the AI generate images, but we don't specify what we want to see, we don't provide a content prompt. We just let the AI go its own way and see what happens. You could say this is equivalent to dreaming, or to an 'electric dream', as a reference to Philip K. Dick's 1968 story 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?'
The strange thing is, this usually doesn't work well. In all the tests I've done previously, I quickly got junk, uniform fields, weird artifacts, and not infrequently, unwanted explicitness. Of course, you can filter these out with a negative prompt, but then you're still giving the AI directions about what is content-wise desirable and what isn't. And that's not what you want. This way you limit the AI's imagination and then it's ultimately not a real counterpart to a dream. For many months I tried to get good results for this beautiful idea, but eventually, I had to give up.
Recently, I stumbled upon something new by accident. In an experiment, I trained a LORA network on my own drawings. The result was not only stunningly good, it also turned out that the network gave the AI enough directional content to avoid artifacts and bizarre derailments. Suddenly, it became possible to omit a content prompt and still get good results.
This video is the result of this discovery journey. It has taken me many months, but finally, I have a result that I am satisfied with. This is the first 'electric dream'. Generated with the help of a LORA trained on my own drawings, with no content indication in the prompt, except for some styling features, and a very limited negative prompt, which essentially just prevents realistically looking objects from appearing.
    Finally, I am somewhat satisfied.
I hope that you, my esteemed viewers, will enjoy it.
