Hey Andy, love your videos. Very entertaining and fun to watch. But for me a subscription would only be worth it if you would put together an actual film school curriculum. Like little projects and steps on how to make better films. Starting with simple stuff like how to shoot a bottle of beer in an exciting way and stuff where one doesn't need lots of actors or scripts (such as your car wash video) and then gradually making things more complex. Than it would be actually more than just entertainment but something really worth paying for. Just as an idea ;)
I'm a long time panasonic fanboy dating back to the DVX100. I googled "EVA1 vs GH5" just out of curiosity thinking I'd find maybe one or two videos on youtube of someone doing some quick side-by-side comparison footage. I was NOT expecting that anyone would have assembled a crew and made a fucking short film just to compare them together! You guys are awesome.
Very inspirational video. If there is one lesson I have learnt from this video comparison, one can always work within their means with the right gear they can afford... Not so much differences...I love the way the movie ended, with a gift of a GH4. Thanks so much.
Haha the beginning xD Very nice in depth comparison! The images from the Eva do look fantastic and the short film was beautiful. Keep up the great work, Nicolas
Wow. I knew that Thomas is a good actor. Would have been great to see more of him together with esklid and bouncing of each other on set back then. Thank you Thomas for bringing your spirit to Anders Videos
I’ve followed and have been impressed with you for a long time. You have a great on camera presence - great energy - and come across as congenial, lighthearted, and genuine. Your stories show great warmth, insight and sensitivity. It’s no wonder you are surrounded by talented good friends. It’s a pleasure to watch you grow and enjoy life. Mark & Sue
Was smiling through the entire video, and especially liked the very beginning, and the end of the short. Laughed out because of that. You're probably some of my favorite people, and you just seem like overall outstanding human beings. As a Norwegian who just moved abroad (to Stuttgart), it brings an extra element of joy to hear when you speak Norwegian, as well as showing nice nature and familiar architecture. Sincerely, someone who's been a huge fan for about two years.
Love seeing you on my computer screen, nice work always :) The EVA is an awesome camera, congratulations on owning it! An observation on each camera: The EVA seems to have a lot less sharp individual frames than the GH5. Stopping and starting this video using the "V" key on the keyboard showed me over and over that EVA ran softer frames and the GH5 ran sharper frames. It was a great experiment to see this - thanks :) The GH5 on the other hand (including mine) always tilts towards the green. I have gotten into the habit when in the computer using FCPX, I always just pull the green down before I even bother looking lol. I can see it here too. Thanks for this video, you feel like a friend I never met :)
It's the Skin Tones and that Extra amount of Dynamic Range that helps the EVA-1 to Win but recently Panasonic Launched the S1H and S5 which have very similar specs to the EVA-1
A quality of EVA 1 is that it can record in the 2K digital format ( 2048x1080 pixels) , which can be edited, etc. with normal computers. Keep in mind that the vast majority of projectors only work in 2K. Also it is necessary to bear in mind that the 4K in cinematography is very bad when faces of actors appear since all the small defects are captured (wrinkles, roots of gray hair without dyeing, etc. and even the makeup) It is different the documentary about images of the nature in that if 4K is very attractive
Wow! This is such high quality Anders! Probably the funniest video so far too! Happy birthday man, and I'm so glad that you are official as a production company!
when I see certain familiar locations used in the short, I couldn't help but remember Eskild Fors, and the thumbnail in the ending of the video almost got me tearing up! Miss you Eskild ❤️ You should have been there to celebrate Anders 's 30th Birthday! ❤️🎂🎊🎈
I've always enjoyed your videos, and been influenced by your reviews over the past few years. Thanks for that. I recently bought a Ninja Inferno from Atomos for my Gh5. Would love to see its results next to the EVA1. Just curious. Anyways thanks for the video, was great. Fresh snow too..... Nice. :-)
See this is the issue with filmmaking in Australia. In Norway you can just step outside and BOOM everything looks beautiful. You can't do that here haha. This was such a good video as always Anders : ) You're videos were a huge inspiration for me in getting into filmmaking and continue to inspire me every time you upload.
Same! I understand you! And also, if you want to find beautiful places in Australia, you have to travel far. But I guess the more we search the more we find better places to film. Good luck! :D
Our sunlight is super harsh, but having a camera with good colour and high dynamic range can make it look a lot better. I shot something outside with my Ursa Mini Pro yesterday and it looks lovely. If you have more of a lighting budget/crew, invest in some large, light diffusion panels for actors, or use plenty of bounces.
Was there any conclusion or opinion here? Did I miss that bit? I mean of course the GH5 will be easier to carry around, there needs to be no video for that, but I would have liked more info on how the two compare. Both in practical usability, but also what each has in terms of flaws and edges. Wasn't the video names "vs"? It is really hard to judge the compressed (by youtube) and altered (by grading) video as a viewer.
As ever, great content, nicely shot and well produced. I waited for EVA 1 but eventually opted for the c200, always look at the GH4/5 longingly for its image and compactness. Thank you for sharing your work. J
Love your videos Andyax! You have been an inspiration of mine for many years. Keep doing what your doing whether thats on youtube or not i will be supporting you!
I liked the part....imagine you get a GH4 for just a birthday present and you start complaining it's not a GH5 in real life. Good thing they included the part that they still continue shooting with the GH4 :-).
Great video as always! The EVA 1 definitely looked warmer in the skin tones, the GH5 appeared a little more red. But, it does look like you could cut these cameras together fairly well. Looking forward to the color correction/grading video!

@Andyax Regarding Vlog vs Vlog-L: From what I understand, regular Vlog was designed to take advantage of the full 14+ stops of dynamic range that the EVA 1 and Varicam cameras have. Meanwhile, Vlog-L was designed for the 12 stops on the GH4. sensor. So I guess VLog is better than Vlog-L since it was designed to handle a higher dynamic range.
Great job! Part of the scenes you shot make me think of those who have been filming Paul Greengrass for all "Jason Bourne" movies. Sorry for my rough translations, i'm french :)
I tried the Eva, C200 and Ursa mini pro 4.6k...the Ursa imo felt the best and looked the best. I bought it. Having 4.6k raw in both 24 and 60fps and 15stops of dynamic range, AMAZING colour, Davinvi resolve included and a wonderful menu system and robust body blue built in NDs. It's such amazing value. The screen on the EVA is the worst ever and quite frankly a joke when one is paying so much.
Glad you are back, Andy! Great comparison, highfive man! So EVA writes 10 bit 150 mbps in mp4 codec? And you should convert it before editing and color correction?
Hello Andyax. Thank's for this useful and well made review. I've got one question about this camera. Does the diaphragm works continuously with lenses like Canon EF 24-105 and Canon EF 70-200 ? I mean, can we adjust smoothly the aperture during a shoot if light change (cloud for exemple) or does the diaph work step by step with a noticeable closing (or opening) effect on the image ? Thank you for your answer.
Great comparison video. This actually made me decide to buy some used GH5s to replace my GH4s. I’ve found even with the same cameras I have to make tweaks even using the same luts to make the clips match. I also use an external field recorder with my Rode NTG3. I also love having my camera to be incognito when needed for certain film situations lol. I do plan to move up to this camera though because of the sensor.
Thank you so much for your good Video. I have a EVA1 too. my Question is, how did you grade the color? You shoot in VLog. And then you use Rec 709 you in Post. Where can i get it for Premiere? Thank you? Is there any Luts?
I wish I made more money so that I could financially support this channel. I've been following this channel for close to 3 years now and you guys have helped me evolve like none other. You guys are the best
Why did the focus seem soft/off on the EVA1 examples? Was focus missed? Because I've seen WAY sharper footage from the EVA1? Were you shooting wide open with a super shallow depth of field for all of these examples? Thanks!
Hey Andyax, I am watching your video's for a really long time now. I see you have progressed really well! You are a pro man! Please keep rocking! Awesome video's :) CHEERS!
Hello Anders, how come there was no vignetting to be seen with the Sigma lens? I thought that lens is only made for APS-C-size sensors or did you crop the EVA's video in post - or am I missing something here?
Very good video showing your experience with the EVA1. I'm very keen to purchase this camera for my business as well. Will hopefully make that happen in the next couple of months :)
Nice job Andy! Funny, informative & well put together video as usual! I’ve only just moved to GH5 from the 4 but EVA does hold a strong image just for me the size and expense over the GH5 I can’t weight up. Anyway, take it easy!
Do any of the GH5 overheat while shooting videos longer than 1 hour? Which zoom lens would you recommend for shooting indoor / low lights events where u need both wide and long range zoom?
Great stuff Anders! Love your videos. Quick question.Just got my gh5s today and was wondering what metabones to get. XL or Ultra and what’s the difference between them?
Great video, thanks for sharing. I own 1DXMk2, and planing to buy EVA1 or C300MkII. I'm still deciding... what I don't like about C300 is 4k 30p only, on the other hand, I think EVA1 it is a great camera, but I get use with AF dual pixel os 1DXMKII... Hope to see some EVA1 ProRes Raw Footage.
This was very interesting, thanks! IMO, not worth the extra cost for EVA1 for my purposes (for now, hehe), but certainly the 35mm sensor gives some advangates.
Norway is nothing but a Haven. Every time my eyes got distracted the beauty of outdoor nature that's why i had to re-watch the video to get all the filmmaking news that i missed.
Very informative, funny, real, interesting, and full of small surprises. I smiled a lot in this video! In 12:39 What's that lengthy china ball called? Where did you get it? Where can i buy it? That's really awesome!
Litterally a pleasure to watch....the EVA looks just like Alexa footage. I don’t think I would be able to tell the difference side by side....that 5.6k raw upgrade is gonna be incredible
Soooo goooood!!! Absolutely cool presentation with a lot of details which are very helpfull! But at 10:30 shure that it is your hometown? Everything is white and cold...🤣

Skin tone is so much better on the EVA. Btw really good comparison, very useful as always. And Happy Birthday Anders!!^^
Yeah but changing the white balance on gh5.. no problem
BEST INTRO EVER! And the video was okay too.. 😋 Enjoy the camera guys! Looking forward to your next shortfilm with this one 🙂

The fact that the GH5 is even comparable to the EVA1 shows just how powerful it is.

Im 90% sure you got it to look like a pro. Im not saying you are bad tho.
Keep up the Great work and Congrats for a new camera!
Hehe, thanks. You sure do look pro, especially with the mattebox ;) I'm not sure if that's worth $7k though.
Happy birthday brother..time flies. Still remember watching your first video
My little brother was with me in my room and he looked at me i was dancing after i woke up to this notification😂😂
Well done guys, this review is quite refreshing and def well worth of time watching. Keep it up!!
5.7K SUPER 35mm 😍 Great video Andy and team! And the short film..? Didn't see that twist coming haha! Thanks for sharing ☺️👍

Esklid would approve.
Glad you are back, Andy! Great comparison, highfive man!
So EVA writes 10 bit 150 mbps in mp4 codec? And you should convert it before editing and color correction?
All of your videos are inspiring and packed with info.
Also Happy Birthday :D
I love the cinematic looks you bring out of the GH5! I hope to do the same while I'm in Asia this April
Hello Andyax. Thank's for this useful and well made review. I've got one question about this camera. Does the diaphragm works continuously with lenses like Canon EF 24-105 and Canon EF 70-200 ?

Happy birthday man, do you recomend me buy the gh4 in 2018? I'm thinking about getting a new camera for filmmaking G85 or GH4?
Great present! 😂
Great video Andyax. I rellay missed your videos.

I can never go back from IBIS now that I have tried it, but the EVA1 is a beautiful camera. The image and the colours are lovely.
realy nice video guys! why do you shoot slowmo @ 100fps and not 180fps ( is it a better qualiti with GH5 then ? )
I really like your work, bro. Cheers from India
Very good video showing your experience with the EVA1. I'm very keen to purchase this camera for my business as well. Will hopefully make that happen in the next couple of months :)
I'm caught between the Panasonic AU-EVA1 5.7K Super 35mm vs Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. I would like to hear your opinion?
Nice job Andy! Funny, informative & well put together video as usual! I’ve only just moved to GH5 from the 4 but EVA does hold a strong image just for me the size and expense over the GH5 I can’t weight up. Anyway, take it easy!
Do any of the GH5 overheat while shooting videos longer than 1 hour? Which zoom lens would you recommend for shooting indoor / low lights events where u need both wide and long range zoom?
Great video/film and really awesome review, thank you!
hey Andy, "Many more happy returns of the day, have lots and load of fun" great video,
And, as I commented before seeing the entire video: Gratulerer med dagen! :)
Takk Jarand :)
Anders, you killed me w/ the intro. It caught me off guard while I was saying out loud "Hullo. I am Anders." lmao
Scared the hell outta me in that intro, popping up like a crazy man 😅
Sorry, hehe :P
Great stuff Anders! Love your videos. Quick question.Just got my gh5s today and was wondering what metabones to get. XL or Ultra and what’s the difference between them?
Great video, thanks for sharing. I own 1DXMk2, and planing to buy EVA1 or C300MkII. I'm still deciding... what I don't like about C300 is 4k 30p only, on the other hand, I think EVA1 it is a great camera, but I get use with AF dual pixel os 1DXMKII... Hope to see some EVA1 ProRes Raw Footage.
Very nice review and fun video.
Thanks for another great video! How’s the glare and latency with Aputure Monitor?
I love the ending of that love story. That was hillarious
that intro was too lit for me
edit: you guys are hilarious
This was very interesting, thanks! IMO, not worth the extra cost for EVA1 for my purposes (for now, hehe), but certainly the 35mm sensor gives some advangates.
Norway is nothing but a Haven. Every time my eyes got distracted the beauty of outdoor nature that's why i had to re-watch the video to get all the filmmaking news that i missed.
Hey Andyax, very helpful video. What was the light stand you used to hold the Aputure Space light please?
Very informative, funny, real, interesting, and full of small surprises. I smiled a lot in this video! In 12:39 What's that lengthy china ball called? Where did you get it? Where can i buy it? That's really awesome!
Litterally a pleasure to watch....the EVA looks just like Alexa footage. I don’t think I would be able to tell the difference side by side....that 5.6k raw upgrade is gonna be incredible
I LOVE YOUR REVIEWS MAN
Soooo goooood!!! Absolutely cool presentation with a lot of details which are very helpfull! But at 10:30 shure that it is your hometown? Everything is white and cold...🤣
