Sadly this is what competition dance is doing to some studios. They're so keen to go for difficulty and tricks that get points that they forgo time teaching technique and other aspects of dance like listening to the music and keeping an eye on the people around you and working as a team. This was six solos- none of them done correctly
Yeah I agree. I mean competitions are OK once in a while for performance experience and to get external feedback but these days some studios just focus on competition. My teacher used to say that winning a competition doesn't mean you're fantastic. It just says you were better than the people on the day, who could have been terrible. And casting directors for jobs and dance colleges actually don't care about what titles you won. In fact some of them get put off dancers who have too many competitions on their resume because they feel they've been over-conditioned competitions, which are not like professional jobs or colleges. Plus you spend all your time preparing for athletic based competitions and not learning to dance or be an artist. I find the same with studios that make their kids to exams all the time. I went to one of those for a bit. Exams are good once in a while to get feedback and so you can say you're at level x in ballet but you spend all your time prepping for the exam and not on dance as a whole. I'm glad you changed studios as I think it will be better long term.
MsJubjubbird: I agree with you but at my studio, it is a place where you can do competition and recital. We have a whole night for competition classes, but there are two technique classes in the one day, not counting any other day. We work hard on technique in our different classes like lyrical and jazz ect. I do find that having competitions are good because you learn so much if you watch other dancers, and with the judges critics. I don't think that we just focus only on betting a certain team, we focus on being better then the last one.
Ashlyn Boyd they obviously didn’t have the technique to do them, if the choreographer actually put in things they could do, I bet they could’ve nailed this dance.
@@valermink If you look closer, you can see that the glove slipped down her hand, and the whole hand part was way lower than it was supposed to be. She took it off because it might have messed her up.
As a choreographer, you should be giving lower skilled dancers an easier dance, don't force them to do something that they aren't good at. If the dance was a little easier, the snack would have been fine!
I'm kinda speechless... im just saying that the choreographer should make a dance that uses the dancers capability to the breaking point not over. Costume malfunctions happen its just the choreo that doesn't fit the girls.
LITERALLY hold up. the poor girl couldn’t see and so in the one part she was unable to grab onto the girls arm to do whatever they where gonna do and the girl THREW down the other girls arm and had like a mini tantrum cause the other girl couldn’t see to grab her arm like that made me SO MAD LIKE HOMEGIRL CHILL!!
This is what my old studio would do when I was younger. They would just choreograph a dance, not even considering the skill level of others, and just teach us the new skills as we learned the dance. And then, of course, we would preform it. They didn’t teach technique like my new studio does.
1st of all, why would the teachers decide it's a good idea to wear giant hats in a dance with so many leaps and turns? And also, why the heck did she randomly take her glove off?! 😆 gloves like that don't just fall off, she literally took it and threw it on the floor! (I do feel bad for her though)
@@linkbohanon381 I was talking about the costumes, had no intention of criticizing the dancers - they truly did their best with what they were given🔥😙 & when I wrote this comment 3 yrs ago, I was a kid myself. Considering that this was posted in 2013, the girls & I are actually around the same age
It is the worst feeling in the world for this to happen , I've had this happen to me many times All you can do is keep dancing and hope the judges don't take off too many points
She handled it very well in my opinion. I probably would have started crying or at least had more of a reaction if my hat flew off in the middle of a dance. Props to her for just looking around and catching up to the dance.
A choreographer shouldn’t give young kids this tequine after all the mistakes happened they look consermd and that isn’t good there. Not suppose to show the sad expression on their face keep smiling😊
Cute kids, they all can dance but if they lowered the difficulty they’d probably win. It’s good to teach them stuff to challenge them but don’t put them on stage at competition if they haven’t nailed it yet. They’re like 8. No need to make them do 4 pirouettes and 6 fouettés at once (im probably exaggerating but whatever)
Im just wondering what happened with that glove? It looked like she pulled it off herself but it wouldnt make sense for her to do that XD im so confused
celli3000 when you’re competing you’re not allowed to fix your costume or anything or you can get disqualified. The glove started slipping off her hand and so instead of pulling it back on she just ripped it off instead.
In any kind of competitive dance/acro, like tap, gymnastics, dance, etc, you're not allowed to fix your costume. The judges will take away points. So she just took it of instead of fixing it because it was already slipping off. I probably would've done the same thing.
If she had to do tricks it would have been dangerous to do it when her glove was slipping off and it’s easier just to take it of rather than fix it when your dancing

Abigail Craig I agree with you, however this dance was clearly not choreographed to their level. They don't have the training they need to do a dance this difficult.
Creative Girl yeah we compete with age but also with. Technique level. I’m a competitive dancer I would know. U know Let’s just say. I’m 7. Ok. And I can do and aerial some double turns and. My leap is okay. And then their is this other 7 year old girl. Who can do a second turn. Much more difficult things than I would be able to do. We wouldn’t compete. At the same level. Because her level is more difficult than mine. These girls in the vid obviously didn’t compete at their level because of how bad their technique was and. They just weren’t ready for competition. (I’m actually not 7 tho)
I feel like the choreographer cared more about tricks as that’s what of completion dances mainly consist of for some reason however they don’t have any technique trying to back it
as a dancer myself i feel this routine is too hard for them, you could tell they weren’t ready, they never pointed their feet, and there turns were messy, they definitely could’ve won their division if maybe the teacher added less turns and took her time and maybe looked at what they could do.
@@clouddiskai5215 I mean, this choreography was way too difficult for them. They probably would have killed it if it weren't for all of those fouettes. The choreographer should have given them some easier turn sequences.
lol she handled that well! I love how she continued to dance with the hat right over her face. That must have been difficult to dance when you can't see. Respect! :) I had a similar situation when i did polynesian dancing as a kid and was wearing a coconut bra that came untied and fell off during one of my dance troupe's performances 😂 luckily i grabbed the coconuts just in time and had to hold them in place throughout the entire dance performance. I was so mortified and had a hard time concentrating on the dance. So i admire this little girl for handling an embarrassing situation with such poise!
This makes me so sad. Whoever choreographed this routine didn't take into consideration the dancers performing it. These girls are not ready for half of the turns and leaps in this routine, in terms of muscle development and technique development. They deserved better and should have been given appropriate choreography for their skill level. The choreographer is rude to put the girls on stage not looking even remotely close to their absolute best. The coach very obviously neglected to clean the routine. They didn't even train the dancers what to do when costumes malfunction during a performance. I'm just so sad for your daughter and her friends. I hope you found a better studio that actually knows what they're doing because your daughter is talented and that talent deserves to be nurtured correctly.
Competitions have recreational categories that let you still compete. Most competitions I have went to have 2-3 categories, rec., Intermediate and advanced. They may all call them something different but the basically of the categories is that way. Competitions also give feedback that is received from the judges, therefore giving them something to see, and learn from opinions of others then just their choreographers. These girls are young, and can still improve and how are they to improve without going out there and learning from their mistakes, and their mess ups and feedback from others? You simply can not. Them competing probably has helped them.. I would love to see where they are now, or even a couple years down the road.
KatFires I’m pretty sure by “recreational” they meant people that are dancers that don’t compete.Remember, there can be more than one definition for a word.
Everyone in the comments is saying "this dance is terrible, they're not ready for competitions, this was a hot mess, where is their technique" etc. but in my opinion their technique isn't all that bad, their synchronizing just needs a lot of work. It doesn't say how old they are but I'm guessing these girls are 9-11 years old and for that age, I think they're doing a pretty good job. And I'm someone who watches DancingWithYT and watches 8 year olds doing front aerials and perfect al la second turns and to be completely honest, most kids are not capable of the things the kids on DancingWithTY, CarmoDance, or the show Dance Moms do and it's unrealistic to compare them to the average kid.
Alyssa xx2000xx I dont even think the dance moms girls were that good. Maddie was alright, but the rest I was never moved by. They were all just average kids with mediocre talent just like everyone else.
Its sad too me how rude some of these comments are, they're little kids! They're not professionals, and im proud of her for fineshing her routine even when she had some malfunctions, and was even blinded.
i feel like we shouldnt be making fun of the dancers, you could have said that a lot nicer. for someone who has been dancing competitively for 9 years i dont think it was the dancers. the choreography was obviously way to hard for these poor girls. i believe they are all very talented but the choreographer put way too many tricks in there instead of easier choreo that they would nail!
They looked like they were giving it their all but I really felt that they just gave up halfway through, Every dancer and dance team has one of these moments no matter how good you are, I had a solo competition last year that didn’t go so well but I came back a week later at the next competition and won and then kept on winning for the rest of the season so don’t give up! better luck next time girls
The issue is that it's not in sync other wise its a great dance it needs cleaning and if it can't be perfected it needs to be toned down. Also make sure all costumes are secure. - I've been a dancer for 11 years and know how these things work.
Awe she fought through it as hard as she could. It’s sad you get so many couch critics commenting who probably never competed at anything find it so easy to criticize a little kid. Was it the best dance ever, no, their young and the entire point is for them to enjoy themselves, to keep going acting like nothing has happened dancing blind with hat in your face part of the time (which your told to keep going no matter what-if your costume fails don’t try to fix it) she deserves credit.
But if ur paying this much money to compete at a competition u might as well want to be good and Ik for personal experience that if the dance that ur in is bad and very messy it’s embarrassing because YES other dancers fro other studios judge u while ur a dancing just like the judges do maybe even worse
They have some of their turns, they're all very flexible, but their technique and execution need to be worked on. And TIMING. People are saying this routine was too hard for them, but honestly they just needed to clean it. It was messy from the beginning, and spacing was really off. The poor girl who lost her costume: PROPS TO HER FOR CONTINUING.
Not gonna lie, each girl gave off a vibe and I had to share with y’all. I am not hating on any of these girls, I’m just telling y’all the vibes they give off to me: The girl who started in the front gave me teachers pet vibes. idk why, she just does. The girl with all the costume problems (bless her sweet little heart) gave me main character vibes. Through all the problems, she still completed of the dance. The girl with the glasses honestly gives me “trying to be the main character” vibes. She was so far away from group for half the dance, and sometimes it seemed like she was doing a difference dance (which can be more of a choreography thing). Also, I felt like they’re were plenty of times where she could’ve (or should’ve) noticed that she was farther away and gotten closer, but she never did. The girl who threw the other girls arm down gives off mean/popular girl vibes. I think the little outburst is what makes me think that mostly. Also, in their entrance, she was the one hopping out on a different beat, and for some reason, it gives off mean girl vibes. Idk, tho. The last girl gives me “the best friend/main side character” vibes. This is mostly because when the other girl threw her arm down, she just kinda stood there for a hot second and looked like she didn’t know what to do. Again, no hate to these girls, they all did their best to continue the routine even with costume malfunctions and timing issues.
It’s really not, she’s a little girl on stage in font of probs about 70+ people it’s scary especially when something’s gone wrong and she did really well considering
OMG IKR!!!ha did you see her box jump at the end😂 and no hate but she should be a lot thinner to be executing those moves, there is no weight she could carry the weight of her body on one leg. And also, her flexibility is way off. She can barely get her leg above her head😂😂
So, yes there were flaws. There was costume malfunctions. Moments like these are meant to happen and usually you get so embarrassed and it never happens again. I have to say, there were ups and downs in this dance. So here’s a list of the ups and downs: The UPS of the dance: -I can tell they tried. - They kept dancing through all the mistakes. -They didn’t freeze on stage! The downs of the dance: -The dance steps were too hard for there ability. -There was rarely technique! - Only 1 girl didn’t fall out her turns throughout the turn combos. In conclusion, this dance was a life lesson to add more bobby-pins. I see potential in these dancers.
As a dancer myself what we usually do is the headpiece would actually be threaded into my hair which doesn’t sound good but it works like a charm. And the gloves will be tight fitted little bit the arms so nothing falls off. I know what it’s like to be humiliated when everything goes wrong it hurts
The girl who was on the far right for most of the dance was off by herself doing a solo. And the girl whose hat fell also somehow lost her glove halfway through. It was a hot mess!
Juliette Léa no she didn't lmao, it flew off and that's why she had to pick it up in the end. why would she take it off on purpose if she knew the judges would deduct points from her already awful dance? think again.
It seemed they knew their parts, they just were not capable of them

They deserved better and should have been given appropriate choreography for their skill level. The choreographer is rude to put the girls on stage not looking even remotely close to their absolute best. The coach very obviously neglected to clean the routine. They didn't even train the dancers what to do when costumes malfunction during a performance. I'm just so sad for your daughter and her friends. I hope you found a better studio that actually knows what they're doing because your daughter is talented and that talent deserves to be nurtured correctly.
OMG I WAS AT THIS COMPETITION I REMEMBER THIS 😂🤦♀️👏
Why did she quit her glove? you can really see that the glove didn't fell off, she remove it off, look closely at 1:45 .
y'all, they're little. let them dance. okay, it wasnt very clean but they were having fun chill tf out lol
julia catherine Okay but this is a competitive dance, not recreational....
I would love to see where they are now, or even a couple years down the road.
julia catherine im their ages and am a dancer at duet dance acadamy and this kind of thing has never happened to us we usually get 1st place too
KatFires I’m pretty sure by “recreational” they meant people that are dancers that don’t compete.Remember, there can be more than one definition for a word.
julia catherine 2:31 that looks like she isn’t having fun, she looked pissed off and had a mini tantrum
Three minutes and eighteen seconds of my life I'll never get back. Why the hell did I watch this??
I was hoping someone would slip on the glove😂😂
Even thought they weren’t the best, we all have to start somewhere so well done to the girls for that 😍😍😍
the reason she threw off her glove is because it was already coming off and it would be difficult to dance in
But apparently not the hat on her face
Her glove came off 1:46
Her hat was coming undone falling in her face 1:59
Her hat came completely off 2:38
Poor Girl;( 2:58
Alyssa xx2000xx the dance needed to be easier for the lack of training and the age
that routine was absolutely NOT A FAIL-a few wardrobe oop's and the girl didn't miss a beat.
Amazing job by all !!
I am wondering who posted the video titling it a fail? Shame on then!
I feel so bad for the girl right to the middle
Its sad too me how rude some of these comments are, they're little kids! They're not professionals, and im proud of her for fineshing her routine even when she had some malfunctions, and was even blinded.
Lmao
they should've done less tricks, because the tricks they did were too advanced for them
i feel like we shouldnt be making fun of the dancers, you could have said that a lot nicer. for someone who has been dancing competitively for 9 years i dont think it was the dancers. the choreography was obviously way to hard for these poor girls. i believe they are all very talented but the choreographer put way too many tricks in there instead of easier choreo that they would nail!
me after watching dance moms for 2 hours
Where is Abby when you need her? ... 😬
Well that was 3 minutes of my life I'll never get back. Was expecting something funny 😂😂
I would want to see them dance this again once they could actually do the moves well
They were good enough for this dance. Costume mess up should've been corrected during costume practices. They probably got startled
They can’t really do the tricks put in I’m glad my teacher doesn’t do that
They looked like they were giving it their all but I really felt that they just gave up halfway through, Every dancer and dance team has one of these moments no matter how good you are, I had a solo competition last year that didn’t go so well but I came back a week later at the next competition and won and then kept on winning for the rest of the season so don’t give up! better luck next time girls
The girl on he far right was trying to be seen in the spotlight and stuffed up the whole dance!!! And one point a girl was dancing in the wings🤦♀️
Spacing, timing, wardrobe, knowing what your doing!
Too much pressure on these young girls ❤️
Poor girl I bet she cried her eyes off when she got off that stage
I was 800th like! Lol
Poor girl her costume was everywhere 😂😂
Off count, accessories falling off, out of sync, unpointed toes, and stumbles 😬😬😬
Don't hate them on guys. Plenty of dancers compete at this level for fun, to learn and grow.
But if ur paying this much money to compete at a competition u might as well want to be good and Ik for personal experience that if the dance that ur in is bad and very messy it’s embarrassing because YES other dancers fro other studios judge u while ur a dancing just like the judges do maybe even worse
@@gracefoley4813 exactly… kar is not cheap and isn’t a competition you should enter for shits and gigs
Well we know who probably didn't win.
To be honest I give her a lot of credit for continuing on like your supposed to do
Are they training to be strippers? There is a lot of crotch flashing and butt shaking going on in that routine.
estelle patella this is actually pretty decent compared to other dances, look up my boyfriends back and it's a lot worse
wyatt p i watched it O.O
Lol you just defined competitive dance 😂😂😂😂
Um wut😂 I saw neither of those things😂 all I saw was a hot mess of a routine😂
Stephanie Roark That was a good dance tho.
They have some of their turns, they're all very flexible, but their technique and execution need to be worked on. And TIMING. People are saying this routine was too hard for them, but honestly they just needed to clean it. It was messy from the beginning, and spacing was really off. The poor girl who lost her costume: PROPS TO HER FOR CONTINUING.
is it just me or is this dance a bit inappropriate for young girls to do...
mm.....
Queen Hack no its not that bad
Queen Hack 😂 its way better than some other dances
ever seen the 4 little girls doing "my boyfriends back"?
Queen Hack just u, welcome to stage one of dance
Not gonna lie, each girl gave off a vibe and I had to share with y’all. I am not hating on any of these girls, I’m just telling y’all the vibes they give off to me:
The girl who started in the front gave me teachers pet vibes. idk why, she just does.
Again, no hate to these girls, they all did their best to continue the routine even with costume malfunctions and timing issues.
it was so funny when her hat was falling
yeah xD
Emerald Hicks imagine yourself in her place 😶 + probably letting your whole team down based on a costume.
It’s really not, she’s a little girl on stage in font of probs about 70+ people it’s scary especially when something’s gone wrong and she did really well considering
Lol the girl flung her sleeve off that was hilarious
The tall one is really bad
I agree. Her technique is horrible she is off beat, and did moves half ass.
OMG IKR!!!ha did you see her box jump at the end😂 and no hate but she should be a lot thinner to be executing those moves, there is no weight she could carry the weight of her body on one leg. And also, her flexibility is way off. She can barely get her leg above her head😂😂
Way*
The bow at the end 😂😂⚰️⚰️
omg these girls dont know how to dance..
Kitsune hush fox
Kitsune you couldn't do any better. These girls are very talented. Especially for their age! 😕
Kitsune yes they do you probably don't know how to dance
Kitsune you do not know how that is they were amazing
maybe they just needed some more time to practice.
So, yes there were flaws. There was costume malfunctions. Moments like these are meant to happen and usually you get so embarrassed and it never happens again. I have to say, there were ups and downs in this dance. So here’s a list of the ups and downs:
The UPS of the dance:
-I can tell they tried.
- They kept dancing through all the mistakes.
-They didn’t freeze on stage!
The downs of the dance:
-The dance steps were too hard for there ability.
-There was rarely technique!
- Only 1 girl didn’t fall out her turns throughout the turn combos.
In conclusion, this dance was a life lesson to add more bobby-pins. I see potential in these dancers.
They were not ready at all to do this I’m so sorry for the poor little girls! Just look at their faces at the end they just wanted it to be over with
The girl on the far right was amazing! I think the whole group could have used a few Bobby pins for there hats! Great work!
I loved it when they went to do the lift and the girl slammed the other girls hand down lol
As a dancer myself what we usually do is the headpiece would actually be threaded into my hair which doesn’t sound good but it works like a charm. And the gloves will be tight fitted little bit the arms so nothing falls off. I know what it’s like to be humiliated when everything goes wrong it hurts
I mean i got to say that the music was pretty accurate at the parts where it said somebody save me lol
Who’s the little one on the far left in the beginning? I couldn’t take my eyes off her, she’s such a great performer!
Cate Craig I think I know that girl......
It was already falling of so she just pulled it off
Naomy Arzate no she actually took it off she turned to the back.
Cate Craig looks like she took her glove off?
