Hi, I worked for 35 years as a Hand and Machine Compositor in the local paper. Hot Metal at the start then later on computer when we went Cold Type.
Sad to see all those papers not printed now. It was a great job, many great memories.
    Best wishes.
    Colin

Its a sad day. NewsCorp screwed these papers for quite a few years, so no one was interested in them any more. Perfect excuse then to shut them down. Hopefully the independants can make a go of it.

In the USA younger people read the news online if at all. The older folks read it to a certain extent, but it cost to much now so some gave it up. I realize that in some isolated areas of the world the paper is the only source of news as they can’t receive a signal for internet or tv.

Newspapers mostly profit from advertisements. There are less advertisements on print because there are less readers so it brings the cost of the paper up. Newspapers that currently print are breaking even they are not making much of a profit with print. Where digital is very cheap and even can be done from home and not just in the office. It's a miracle how they still exist even during the pandemic.
