  • After spending two nights wild camping in the Black mountains we stayed at Radnor's end campsite in Hay on Wye to shower twice and get fresh water before heading north along Offa's Dyke path. This video shows the journey along Offa's Dyke and two wild camps ahead of arriving at a campsite in Kington for the third night of this leg and our sixth night of this trip.

@@TINGVELL I think you are closest then to the section in North Wales but I can't say if that section has good examples of the dyke or not as I haven't researched that area. I just know that some of the best examples of the dyke are in the area of this video that's why we chose this section. I don't think it is too far away from you though. Good luck , if you do the section in North Wales, let us know how it was. Cheers.

Hi .Love the videos. Can I ask what type of water filter is the one you're using. And if possible where did you get it from .
    Thanks
    William.

Hi William, thanks for the comment. Yes it is called a Grayl Geo press. I bought it from Amazon. It is not cheap (about £100 with a spare filter) and although I wouldn't go as far as to say it has saved my life already, I would say that it means we've done extended thru hikes that would not be possible without a filter. After my brother did some research for me it seems that this is one of the safest filters out there, one where I can filter from farms, dirty puddles, the company claims from anywhere which is not true of all water filters. If you are a gram counter like me it is also a bit heavy at about 400 grams but I feel it is worth the money and weight to know if I have to I can filter and drink from anywhere.

Hi Thanks for your quick reply. I've looked the filter up on Google. Although the price doesn't put me off The weight and the life on the filter have got me thinking whether to buy one .
But it looks so quick and easy to filter .
What's your thoughts on the life of the filter and the weight of it ? .
    Many thanks.
    William.

Hi William. The grayl and filter weigh 478 grams. It presses 710 ml each time. You get about 300 presses per filter depending on the quality of water you filter. I think that's just over 200 litres. A very popular lighter filter is the sawyer squeeze but I don't think it is as thorough as the grayl. I like that I can drink straight out of the grayl and because of its design there is no chance of cross contamination. Yes it is very easy to press, both Lisa and I can use it comfortably. Just put your palms on the palm shelves and use your body weight.

      Best wishes .
