Some manufacturers will. Others will thrive. A lot of the legacy brands will go the way of British Leyland when the Japanese arrived. Today, the Chinese are the big threat and they will push those who can’t respond out of the market the same way that they have in the Chinese market where European and American companies used to make most of their money and are now moribund.
@Rob6020 You do know that none of the Chinese brands are profitable, right? The Chinese government pumps money into these companies so they can sell cars at a loss until they get rid of competition, and then they will increase pricing.
I’m literally driving behind a Taycan while listening to this episode and if you dropped the 6 cylinder caymen or 911 engine variants in the Taycan, Porsche would have people knocking down the doors for them - keep the v8s for the larger Panamera, and have the Taycan as a “smaller” 4 door model. Shut up and take my money
A combustion engine Taycan would probably be their best selling car, second to the Macan... That car is stunning and a proper engine would definitely make it 1000x better! Great episode as always BTG!
I would be shocked if they put an ICE in the Taycan. The whole layout of the car is specifically designed around it being electric from the ground up. It would be hard to reengineer it to have the ICE in the front, as the shape and crash structure is all based around having no engine within it. And i can't see them making it rear engined, surely? The Panamera is the Taycan with ICE / Hybrid.

Omdz that’s great news! It would be amazing if Porsche rethink their strategy and insert engines into the Taycan as well as some of the other models in the range which was supposed to go fully electric. I suspect the rumor means petrol range extenders which I understand are actually pretty good at keeping power to the battery now days and would give you endless range.
Maybe one of the reasons Germany is the 2nd largest market for Lamborghini is that they register many of their own in house cars in Ingolstadt, the home of Audi. There is also no doubt a preferential scheme for high up execs of VW, Audi and Porsche to purchase or lease Lamborghinis at preferential rates. If you visit the Lamborghini factory you will see many Lamborghinis on German 'IN' plates.
Don’t forget Russia. Lambo can’t sell direct anymore due to sanctions, so extra cars are sent to nearby countries where they are then bought and taken to Russia
I’m surprised they didn’t mention that Aime Leon Dore 993 Turbo that was doing the rounds on Socials right after Jags mess. What a thing of beauty that was.

No mention of salary though Also thought last weeks episode was fine, it was more of a general chat which was quite enjoyable, don't have to know everything, but tried to look things up and have that chat, yeah fine.
Lambonerd and manual owner here: incredibly rare, but Lamborghini for real built the LP Gallardo’s on request as a manual until the very end right before the Huracan. It’s actually the last production manual from Lamborghini full stop. They are fantastic, but hard to find.
I believe the increase in registrations of hybrids is mainly linked to the fact the manufacturers (in the hunt to decrease fleet emissions) are rapidly switching all the more powerful engines into hybrids... So if you want a car with an internal combustion engine and some power output, you have to take the hybrid.

Diesels have been made unviable by legislation. In short, in order to meet emissions they have to lower compression ratios and boost them more heavily, which means they no longer make sense as the fuel economy ends up similar to a petrol.

An engine is a Taycan...would it be better than a Panamera? A range extender that's really light (6-stroke?) in the frunk to allow for a much cheaper and lighter battery (not 105 kWh but 30-40 kWh) would be quite interesting. 40 kWh would do one hot lap around the Nordschleife, the cells used would be much less prone to overheating than "range" cells. More leg room in the back not have cells under. If someone cared abut weight in stead of slapping carbon cladding, it could be really light. No gearbox, just two clutches on the front motor to the range extender and diff. Exhaust right out the sides, would be used on the highway only anyway.
