This was useful and fun to watch just like the last video. I've lived in Beijing for almost four years now and I've been meaning to go watch an opera, but I never got around to it. Ever since seeing this drama, the determination has definitely been boosted and I'll be getting to one just as soon as the venues open up more here. This drama has also lead to me watching a lot more Beijing opera videos on RUclips and billibilli. The downside is that I'm starting to see the gap between the authentic Beijing opera body movements and those portrayed in the drama. lol
I have enjoyed Beijing Opera for several years, although I didn't have the knowledge to understand much of it. And, I believe Winter Begonia is a wonderful drama. Thank you for the information which makes the drama and Beijing Opera even more interesting.
oh, thanks to you, that scene of Nin Jiulan and Wang Ye finally makes sense. I just thought, ok, it's a private joke or something between them? But, i really didn't care much about the meaning, when I watched that scene. btw, you have such beautiful hands! I couldn't stop watching your hands' movement.
Thank you for these videos! I am sure everyone who watched and loved the drama would have gained so much new insight and learned a lot from your videos.
Thank you so much , appreciate all the Chinese cultural references that you made from the poems featured in Joy of Life to opera references in Winter Begonia it has helped many overseas Chinese like me ( who can speak but can't read in Chinese) to understand our culture much better
speaking from personal experience, sitting with an attire that weighs a ton (exaggerating but the feeling is conveyed and not far from the truth) is very uncomfortable and getting up takes forever! repairing the attire is almost impossible if it is torn in the wrong places.
感谢您的工作。I've been looking forward to this video from the first one. Thanks God we have you. I'm mad about this drama, but until these videos of yours I haven't got the slightest idea how deep it is. Thank you so much for your efforts, I can't even express how grateful I am
OMG after whatching your video i have learnt so much. Thank you so very much really ! You are truffully so lovely. I loved this drama so much. I was not so much into traditional chinese opera but after whatching WB i am thristy of learning much about it. Thank you for the references and the explanations. Really. I love you work !!
Thank you so much for this short series on Beijing Opera! It was super fascinating! I didn't even know, that I could be even more impressed by and obsessed with Winter Begonia, until now!
Thank you so much for making these two videos! They were incredibly interesting and you are so clear in your exposition. Also, the videos you linked in the description were very engaging.
Almost a year late to the party but nevermind hehe. Can anyone recommend good video or audio recordings of from Beijing operas? A lot of the ones on RUclips seem quite dated. I want to be able to hum the tunes like that too 😅😅 Thank you for introducing me to this drama and Beijing opera!😁
You are so knowledgeable and eloquent...wow... ...I ,as a westener , have immediatly fallen in love with this kind of art...I pleed guilt ...and I admit I didn' t even know it existed before coming across his portrayal in chinese TV series....!!! Do you know if some book with all the script exist?...something like..."all Shakespeare "...or "all the greek tragedies".... Thank you!...
I wished I watched this review before delving into Winter Begonia. Two main things I love. The main male characters are new to me and I just love both of them! The Opera and the Japanese invasion story lines are very interesting to me as someone who is into history and old custom. The part of a dressed up opera character cannot sit down reminds me of Khmer custom of a royal dance/opera where the male characters (usually performed by big built women) cannot use the toilet until the performance is over because the costume has a rolled up tail that was inserted between the legs and tucked in the back, thus preventing her from going to the bathroom. This drama got more than two thumbs up from me!!
Your explanations definitely added a lot of valuable insights into what’s going on in the series. Thanks a million.
