- Stevie Wonder provided the soundtrack to many of my summers in the 70's, and this one instantly takes me back, I close my eyes, lean my head back and bask in the warm memories of the times this song evokes. I love the latin feel, and the opening rap where he is a playa trying to impress a lady friend with his worldliness. The summer of '74 contained a good deal of fresh sounds from the likes of George McCrae, The Hues Corporation and Paul McCartney, so much good music I never turned off my radio. The sweltering heat of a Michigan summer could only enhance the pleasure of listening to these treasures, cos there were plenty of ice cubes and Kool Aid to be had. "Innervisions" was Wonder's first LP where every song it contained was written, produced and performed by the Wonder man. It is a gorgeous mosaic of R&B, Soul, Pop, Rock and Jazz that fused them all and created something that was more than the sum of its parts. While none of the songs topped the pop charts, "Higher Ground" and "Living For The City" did top the R&B charts. The listening party for "Innervisions" took the invited guests, blindfolded them, loaded them into a bus and then led then by hand through a recording studio where Stevie had them feel the instruments. He wanted to show them how seeing something can distract you from what you are hearing, what it was like in his world. Genius!

The opening of this mix had me going at first! I thought I had mistakenly clicked on Steely Dan (not at all a bad thing) and was confused until Stevie's beat came in from under it. Beautiful way to handle it...

1974 in my hood in the Boyle Heights section of East LA,hanging with all my homeboys ,all of us so young .Thois song takes me right back to that time. Almost all of them arepassed away. This song was big back then in my varrio.

Stevie wonder innervisions album was brought by a friend for me we were both Steve wonder fans and surprised I never heard the invasions album he got a copy for me on cd and I in return got him a Steve wonder album called characters he never heard of on tape and I also know incognito version of the song is quite good and upbeat.

It is truly mind boggling! Reminiscent of the ‘Wrecking Crew,’ the master instrumentalists masquerading as a cohesive ‘symphony,’ through some 60’s and 70’s! That intro combo is iconic to both songs!

Stevie Wonder's journey from "Music of my Mind", "Talking Book", "Innvervisions"(my #2 desert island album, perceded only by Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On"), "Fulfillingness' First Finale" and his 2nd chapter musical summation "Song's in the Key of Life" led me to believe that he was the single most worthy to be considered and ultimate artist of the decade, considering in 1972 I saw him open for The Stone at the LA Forum literally stealing the thunder from them - how awesome was that?!?!?!

Mixing Steely Dan with Stevie Wonder is very fitting for another reason: both "Don't you Worry `Bout A Thing" and the Dan's "Rikki, Don't Lose That Number" unabashedly bite from a very famous composition from Horace Silver, Called "Song For My Father". Just give the Horace track a listen, and you'll hear it right away (which is not to say that both the Stevie and Steely Dan songs aren't classics in their own right).

It says Disco Version but there's nothing Disco about it. Not that anything is wrong with Disco. It was the soundtrack of my adolescence but this is just an incredible song on it's own. I forget how many times my best friend and I played it over and over along with the rest of INNERVISIONS.
