Old cameras can finally be "digitized"!
The "Analog 2 Digital Conversion Kit 0104" from LIRPA Laboratories ULtd is affordable and can be installed in no time. So far it is only available for cameras with 36mm film (24x36mm). A 6x6 version is in preparation, but it won't be available before beginning of April 2022.
Let me say this again: Dear "camera conversion enthusiasts"
Thank you very much for your interesting / humorous comments on my April first post. Unfortunately the conversion kit is not (yet) available. I just filmed my fantasy and am happy about the diverse reactions here and on FB.
My apologies to everyone I've tricked. But some hints are hidden in the film. Even at the end of the credits.
Deutsche Version: • Analog Fotoapparat auf...
Amazing, this is the best conversion kit I have seen so far. No more running out of expensive film while you are on a shoot !
At the beginning of digital cameras, some manufacturer already launched the idea of creating an adapter that was introduced into the camera, in the part where the film roll went the battery and the processor and the sensor housed between the roll and the winder, something like "your dream" and if someone pulled something like that they would allow us to use our old SLRs. Anyway, you have managed to excite many old photographers
This ... joke ruined my day.
I knew that some clever people were going to device something for our old analog cameras. I have and I am about to start with these conversion attempts. This is still new, after few months there will be a lot of improvements and in few years everyone will be looking for these old alluminium bodied cameras and they will be very expensive by then.
All good fun. In fact, Leica did make a digital back to attach to a film SLR in the early 2000s which was quite successful.
how expensive are these now? would it work on my AE-1?
Ditto Rolleiflex. There was a digital "magazine" for the 6008, just before they folded. I was left holding an orphan 6008 with three lenses, three magazines and a handful of accessories. No batteries!
LOL... very well done. After enjoying your April 1st video, I'm now really wishing that this were real and available.
I fell for it-maybe someone will make it
It is. Some guy made one based on a Raspberry Pie.
@@Pozi_Drive There are some, like this one. It's a very interesting and clever concept build, though for regular photography use the field of view/zoom level is pretty ridiculous. I'll just have to go back to dreaming about having a full size sensor to use on my old Minolta 😊

@@inshadowz I sold my XE5 gear 3 years ago and got more for it than expected! Especially the MC 28/F2,0 and the RF 250/F5.6.
Around 1983 there was an article in Byte in which they used a DRAM chip (with the top removed) as sensor.
Marvelous. I can see how this will change over time. A little this and that...
A CRUEL joke ! ..but well done ! Someone needs to invent such a solution for my beloved and pristine Nikon F4S..🙏🤷🏼♂️
This has been done.
For a long time i have been look for this. Thank you very much.
Everybody is waiting secretly for this gadget!😅
Haha! Well played. Initially couldn’t figure out (1) how the mechanical shutter actuated the digital unit- and (2) how and why the sprocket wind action didn’t play havoc on the digital unit during winding. Lol.
Very good questions. Unfortunately I cannot answer them because it is a trade secret. (LOL)
@@TonySwitzerland it is a secret, the secret is a joke.
Great man never forgot well explained when to do it myself❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

April Fools Day 2022?
Ditto! 🤣
My Conversion Kit has just been delivered, now I just need to buy some old analogue cameras.😎😎😎😎😎
Buy? People give them away!
I contacted the supplier and they agreed to send me a prototype of new model, 0401. That is 40mp upgrade vs original's 10mp! I can't wait to put that gizmo into my Canon A(pril)-1!
I still got my Canon A1, cant part with it as it was a 21st present from my parents 1980
Where Xan I find one?
@@michaelhartley11 I can't part with my A1 either, just too many memories locked into it.
I would definitely purchase this item if created as HD imaging for the Mamiya RB67
I do think this does look like a great thing to do to a old film camera being I know most older generations grew up with film cameras and plus some people do love the film look if it have been part of their childhood or young adult years
seems April the 1st has come early this yea
r , mind you i was looking out the window just now, & believe it or not i saw a pig flying
Nice one, Nikon actually patented something similar, it was a cartridge with the sensor on a plate you could just stick it into the camera without any modification, too bad it never got anywhere.
Because it they made it, they would sell much less digital cameras!
Got me good, thank you! :)
There are some cameras that might be converted to digital. One that comes to mind is the FM2. The "soul" of the conversion would be of course a replica of a 35mm cartridge like this AF1 (April Fools 1) suggests but it would require a specially designed back (the FM2 back can be removed and replaced easily, and there used to be a _data back_ for it).
The digital back, that would house the sensor would be controlled by the camera electronics through the hot shoe and the (rechargeable) battery might even reside on the pick-up side of the camera by means of a simple removal of the pick-up spool or in a compartment not unlike the ones that housed the accessory motors that existed for the F2 and FM2.
An interchangeable screen could be provided for a crop factor sensor.
Certainly it wouldn't be a cheap kit but neither it would be hard to manufacture. Of course, it would require Nikon reissuing a few of their film cameras (some readily come to mind) but then, if they are already manufacturing the nostalgia trip Fz, and it's selling like ice-cream in the desert, what would/could be the purpose?
A feasible idea whose time came and went away.
Interesting! Thanks.
I hope this will come into reality
Lol I actually found the real kit. It's pretty amazing!
Can you share the name of the device you found, and where you found it? Thanks.
@@Anonymous-it5jw I'll look for it and share the link when I find it again
Revolutionary!!!😮
This is a very cool idea, but kinda takes away the whole point of shooting with an old camera. The reason why I still shoot 35mm film is because it gives the pictures a certain vibe, a vibe which can not be matched by these digital sensors.
This is now actually a reality with the I’m back 35… still not perfect but technology is getting there
I can't wait until 2022! This is a fantastic idea and I want this digital sensor for my beloved Canon AE-1...
Where can I get this?????
La La Land on April 1st
This is amazing! How much do these cost and where do we purchase them?
Also, Is that a full frame sensor inside? What are the specs? Megapixels etc? I would love if these big brand camera companies would start making digital full frame cameras that fit in my pocket.
Like the Olympus xa, Ricoh GR, contax t2 etc. 😎👍
Thank you! But...

It is surprising that hardly anyone notices the joke. I have a query: What is the extension of the files generated by the system? RAW, JPEG? Thanks for your attention.
All the best.
Works great… I got the 2023 model 80 megapixel with video capability… can be easily moved from one camera to other. Also, no batteries needed, works on micro solar chips that charge even with a flash light. Thanks 🙏 thanks 🙏
WOW - you're even worse than me!
I call bullshit on this.
Such a mean old man 🤣
(well done!
Nice (despite the april fool's thing hehe) ---- I saw a similar method in another youtube clip. And was wondering what are the electrical power requirements? How to turn the device on and off, and is it powered by the camera's own battery? And run-time (on a full charge ----- if battery powered). So I'm thinking that even if such a sensor could be built --------- the challenge would be --- integrating it with power switching, and also how to power it.
Good job, mister.
You must be joking. AFFORDABLE you say? I think $3200 is a bit steep, especially since the tape is not even included!
At first I was like "there's no fucking way this works with those 3 tiny wires attached to the sensor". Then I realized what day this was posted on.
The sensor is an LCD display for a voltmeter.... The three wires would do. Firewire is also only three wires.
My friend, do you think it is possible for me to create a digital back for my Hasselbad?
Where do I buy this item? "Analog 2 Digital Conversion Kit 0104" from LIRPA Laboratories ULtd?
If you send me the money I can pay back my uncle who was a gold mining engineer in Nigeria.
The problem is that it beams the photos to your PC via the Moon, and it's not easy getting the timing right, because you have to catch the next orbit at exactly the right moment. Otherwise the photos go off to Alpha Centauri, and it takes nine years to get them back.
Hi, where can I buy this product? I would love to revive my old analog cameras. Cheers!

Supongo que esto es una broma, claro. Un carrete de película con su tapa torcida y una SD puesta ahí de cualquier forma y pegada con algún adhesivo. Y unos cables sujetos a una pantalla LCD tal cual. En fin...
I was thinking the same idea and realized the sensor is too expensive.

Soll aber nur mit Smartphones von Nokia klappen. Andere Devices "verstehen" das Signal des Liveviews angeblich noch nicht.

It may be a funny coincidence but just now, you can actually buy a very similar looking device that does exactly what is shown on video. "I'm back Film"
It took me 15 minutes off searching on the internet to realize it was a hooks.
It was too good to be true.
😫
There actually is a real conversion kit designed by a fellow on youtube who published it under the video title "Digital Film Cartridge for Analog Cameras (using Raspberry PI)". As the title suggests, it's not a kit you can buy, you have to make it yourself, but it is indeed possible!
Where to buy?
I was wondering if you have to replace the sensor when you want a different ISO setting, it might slow you down a bit on location 😜
Try the brandnew "ISOAUTO" sensor, it is way better than the one shown in the video... 😜
@@TonySwitzerland but that’s not the same film-like process anymore 😔

A pity it's an April Fool's Day joke because it's something I have often wished could happen. I have analogue cameras that I would love to convert somehow to digital. Whoever figures it out could become very rich.
whats the sensor dimension?
Very interesting but I totally disagree with the initial comments, that film shooting is obsolete. There is a wide range of films still available and new films are being launched. Kodak has re-introduced it’s marvelous E100D Ektachrome for stunning slides. No digital image of a rather primitive cmos sensor can substitute the unique look and feel of real film, but of course, it is an option for a totally different way of taking pictures. But it does not make film shooting obsolete!
Amazing.
I fully agree with your comment. But I'm very happy in the digital world.
Where or how do you buy the 0104 replacement kit?
where i can get this digital cartridge
NOWHERE!
do you have a sell link? how can I buy this kit?
Wow 😯, very interesting and very simple and small system.

Thank you very much for your great presentation for this very simple system.
Some people are a little...slow.
It is so awkward watching this video not at April 1st!
ok, the "sensor" seems perfectly like that an old lcd panel :D :D use just 3 wires for the " image "
just a question: how syncronize the "sensor" to the mechanical shutter? :D
its very funny :D
Can anyone help me get this items
Film is not obsolete. We are entering a hybrid age.
Just to add, you can't entre a darkroom with a digital camera and print directly onto light sensitive paper. There is still many pros to film. However, the new age will be hybrid cameras and modifying cameras. Photography is about playing. It's actually very antiquated to believe that film is now obsolete. Film and digital is just the two ways we photograph things. Both have pros and to be honest neither have negatives (no pun intended) have fun guys, no more competitive films better then digital and digital is better then film. Both are brilliant and both are unique.
look at the date folks march 31 next day April 1st ;0)
Where do we find it?
