Here's my 2 cents. This is not merely a "garment"--this is ART!! And ART doesn't have to be symmetrical EVER. Machines do symmetrical & perfection--Artists do WHATEVER THE HECK inspires them at the moment! OK????
I realize this video is super old, but goodness gracious that sweater (and yarn) is GORGEOUS!!! It really just gets better the more you look at it!! You should be so proud of what you've made!!!
The sweater came out beautifully! Your arms are going to be in so many positions that it's not important that the lower arms be matching the body. You did match up the top stripes perfectly! Congratulations 🎉
The sweater is so beautiful and the fit of it is great too! Thank you so much for the acknowledgement of the hours. I feel like RUclips makes me think that everyone Is so much faster than me, but quality takes time! Thank you for sharing your beautiful lovingly made project!
Wow! That sweater is just beautiful!!! I appreciated your reminder at the end that it took you hundreds of hours to make a 33-minute video. I always want everything done as soon as I think of it, and find my patience to be the main thing that holds me back. I'm trying to live a more in-the-moment purposeful life. Your video has really helped me.
Your sweater is beautiful, and so inspiring! So much spinning - and so much organization. I vote for leaving the sleeve the way she is - more character! I'm spinning a polwarth/silk blend, and was amazed when I washed the first (little) skein to see how fatter the finished the finished was. But oh so soft and squishy.
@@JillianEve Hope I'm a better spinner than writer - seems I left a word or two out, and doubled up on others! And I'm a retired teacher. Glad you could make sense of my garbled words :)
I knew about using a crochet hook to pick up a dropped stitch or fix a mistake in the pattern, but using the second crochet hook to fix garter stitch is BRILLIANT!!!
It’s a fantastic sweater, my opinion is to wear it a few times if you find yourself bothered by the sleeve you can still rip back - if not then don’t worry about! I love the true showing of time spent and the acknowledgment of that time. Bravo!
That sweater is simply gorgeous! You can see the drape on camera, and it’s stunning. I almost had a heat attack when you dropped the stitch to go back! For me, I would not change the sleeve. The story behind it is clever, and part of the tale. Yes, props to the makers everywhere who spend their time MAKING. And to you - it’s a lovely project and you look so happy and proud- as you should!
this project is beautiful !! i would personally go back and re-adjust it to be closer to the other sleeve just cus i love that gold color and i think its fun to have the little bright stripes near the end of the sleeves but i think maintaining the story the project tells is just as beautiful :)
It looks amazing Jillian, I would leave the sleeve. Handspun, hand knitted items are supposed to be unique and yours is just that. I love it so much ❤️❤️❤️
I love it just as it is. It is all by hand and is beautiful. The one sleeve not having that gold gives it sort of a signature that states it is one of a kind.
I really appreciate seeing the fix on the sleeve. It's really important to show both that even experienced crafters sometimes make mistakes and that fixing them is possible!
My mind is BLOWN! A-MA-ZING. If the sleeve is going to bother you, take it back. If not, meh, the point of all this work is to have an entirely unique sweater. Nobody has anything like it! And that means you can do what you want. It’s really beautiful.
I’ve knitted two Flaxes and I always struggle to remember which is the front and which is the back when putting them on, so I would cheerfully leave the sleeves the way they are to be able to easily differentiate - and for some extra character and a personal touch! A very beautiful sweater no matter what 🤗
I love it! I too am torn about frogging to match colors on the sleeves. 1 part of me says leave it because it's a wearable photo to remind you of your journey from start to finish. 2nd part of me is saying "you're going to go crazy with the off set! Fix it" but that's me. I do like the left sleeve more than the right because you don't appear lopsided and it balances with the body as well. Update: after seeing your excitement and pride with the left sleeve.... Fix the color issue. It will just be a minor bump in the road and you will be way more proud of yourself in the overall spectrum. Plus, it will just add another "mile" to the journey with another I did it aspect in there
This turned out fabulous! I think I would alter the sleeve, just to get that yellow band in there… it won’t take long and I think you’ll be happier in the end.
your Flax is so stinking cute. whatever you do... don't fix it! i love the slight hint of assymetry. it breaks up the horizontal line of the gold stripe across the bottom of the sweater which shifts the attention back up to the gold stripe at the top, near your lovely face. it's cute, girl. just wear your sweater and love it.
I love your sweater you did an incredible job on it. A great deal of time went into your sweater, If it bothers you to fix the sleeve then do it, but to me it is fabulous the way it is.
The difference between manufactured items (ala the industrial revolution) and hand made items (even artisan) is uniqueness and individuality born of inspiration, or creativity. That's beautiful!!! Enjoy your new wardrobe piece. Hope you have enough yarn left to make a matching hat (or earwarmer headband) and scarf, and maybe fingerless gloves/mittens, too! I'd leave the sleeves alone. You made it, it's yours, and if you like it, it's perfect.
I vote for don't "correct" it. I think the best part of handmade items is that they are not symmetrical. I'm glad we all got to finally see the sweater, you included 😊 It came out Amazing!
Thanks for sharing all of the steps in your process to create this lovely sweater! I love it just as it is. If you want to take the time to redo the one sleeve, it would definitely look nice that way. However, I like it just as it is, too! ... Suzanne
My mother in law always says if you knit or crochet something, you have to leave the mistake, because it let's the negative energy out. It might be a Navajo thought that only the creator can make perfect things. ( This might be completely wrong because neither I nor my mother in law are Navajo) it is something that gives me a smile when I see my mistakes. GREAT WORK!
It's so lovely! I think you should leave the sleeve. In my opinion the quirks and weird parts of projects are what make hand spun/hand knit things so special
Dear Eve, your sweater is gorgeous. Leave it as it is. This sweater has a story to tell. Thank you for your very interesting and funny videos. I have learnt a lot in and you explain very good. Send you lots of creative love from Germany. Ingrid (I am a spinner, knitter, sewer)
What an adventure. I admire your grit ... AND your grist! :) I vote for "leave it as is". For character but mainly because it's alway helpful to have another way to tell back from front other than the collar shape / short rows.
Beautiful. I so want to spin my own yarn and make a sweater with it but I am a very new spinner and am learning on my own. I do not see this happening for a very long time. I love your videos!! Thanks for sharing this with us!!!
I love that the sleeve is a little bit different, it makes it unique (though obviously the whole sweater is one of a kind cuz you handspun it), but it gives it a nice bit of character to have the sleeves be different. Also, just beautiful sweater, it's so gorgeous.
If it REALLY bothers you, and it will bother you forever, go ahead and adjust it. I, honestly, think it's amazing and beautiful as is! It does showcase how gorgeous handpainted, handspun yarn is. Gorgeous work, Evie! Hugs
Gorgeous Sweater! It turned out beautifully! Well done you!!!! Isn't it interesting that the sleeves are bit different, despite even dividing of the fibre.... typical for handspun, and part of the adventure. It looks wonderful just as it is, but whether or not to rework the sleeves all depends on how you want the finished sweater to look, how you will be most happy with it. What a wonderful adventure you showed us today, thanks for sharing! ❤
Great job!!!! You did amazing! i wouldn't rip it out and match it, its perfect as is. And you're right about acknowledging the time and love put into this lovely sweater. Thank you! Greetings from New Zealand from a fellow spinner. Marina
OMG. I just found your channel yesterday and I'm obsessed. I IMMEDIATELY started gathering supplied to learn to drop spin, completely inspired by you. You are so fun and personable and I really love your content. I think I watched you channel about 5 hours yesterday LOL. I am so glad I have so many videos to watch from you. You have inspired me completely! Thank you!
I really love seeing how you finish your beautiful artwork projects. That's such an amazing quality to finish things. I've had to learn that throughout my life, and lately it's been with composing music. I finish each song I begin, and it is so fulfilling to put my heart into every project I do and not give up until it's done and to do my very best on each project. Thank you for sharing your gifts and talents and teaching us this amazing and useful skill. I'm so excited to learn to spin, weave and knit. I've ordered some supplies and I'll be starting soon and teaching my 7 and 5 year old girls.
Beautiful sweater! Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I vote for leaving the sleeve as is. As you say, it tells a story, and that is the beauty of handiwork. You have inspired me, as a new spinner, to make a hand spun, hand knitted sweater, but not for a while yet!
I suggest to leave the sleeve as is. As you put the sweater on you don't see the difference anymore, as you guessed it. This is a wonderful project that turned out so so beautiful!
This is hands down my favorite Flax that I've ever seen. I love the colors. I love the fit. I love the very minor sleeve difference. I love it all. It's wonderful and deserves all the admiration it will get here. I'm really going to to have to consider spinning a sweater for myself. Thank you for acknowledging the time it takes to do these things. I always want to see how things look when used, but I'm heavier in yarn stash than finished wearable when it comes to my own handspun. I'm impressed with the amount you get done for these videos!
Love the sweater Evie. The colours all go together so well. The fact that you have that yarn “left-over”, if it were me, I would give it a go to try to bring in a bit more of the gold strip on the sleeve. (But that’s just me!).
Don't change a thing! It's so beautiful and it looks amazing just like this. I kind of love that it's only at the very bottom of the sleeves that it claimed a little asymmetry. The yarn has spoken.
I think you were absolutely right to make sure the arm joins matched up with the body, it just makes a pretty accent stripe across the whole of the project, but I really adore that the bottom of the sleeves don't mirror each other. I think it makes it look unique and fun. And not something mass produced. It's lovely and looks great on you.
Fabulous! Leave it as it is, in my opinion! I am just finishing a pair of 2 at a time socks with commercial yarn, the stripes were matching perfectly until 1 ball had a knot and the striped sequence was way off. I put it down for a day and then knew I had to make both socks match. I glad it I did. BUT if it had been my hand spun yarn I would not change it, it is the art of my hands and there is beauty in the imperfections! It is the signature of my work! ❤️🧶❤️
I think your sweater is amazing. If the second sleeve bothers you, change it. Personally, I think it is beautiful and the touch of asymmetry at the bottom of the sleeves makes the whole piece more interesting.
Eve your sweater is gorgeous. I am amazed at the organization needed to accomplish this project. So amazing. ❤ I love the individuality of your sleeve stripes. Dear Lady you are beautiful and your sweater is a reflection of your happy soul.❤
You did an amazing job! The yarn is absolutely beautiful. To fix the sleeves or not to is so hard. I thought at first it wouldn't be terrible to fix it but after saying it tells a story makes me think you should keep it as is. Thanks for sharing the journey with us!
The first sweater I knit was Tin Can Knits' "Strange Brew" pattern and I can confirm their patterns are SUPER easy to read and the sizings are excellent. I spent a year struggling to do socks from several unhelpful resources, so it was really nice to see all the hard work Tin Can put into making their sweater patterns (and all their other patterns, tbh) really accessible!
Thanks so much! I was working on that second sleeve while I watched your latest video. You inspired me to try out a Vermont Spindle. It just arrived and you are right, it spins FOREVER!!! 🧶💜😊
Nice job! I can't believe you matched the stripes so perfectly. I can barely do that when I'm sewing, but to do that knitting is extraordinary. I wouldn't have the nerve. You're a true artist.
That's a beautiful sweater. All that planning really paid off, especially how the colours match where the sleeves join. And it's great to see how you repaired the stitch.
I am so happy to have found your RUclips channel. You’re spinning and knitting is beautiful and the information you share is so beneficial. I’ve learned a couple of things and I’ve been doing both for a long time. I loved that you wanted to experiment to get the color striping on the sleeves to be the same. I’m going to try that myself. I would vote for ripping back the sleeve and managing the color as you intended to do from the beginning. I know it has character and tells a story however the story continues if you modify the outcome. I’m so inspired I’m going to go dye some of the roving from my Shetland Sheep. Beautiful job! great video !thank you so much!!!!
Long term professional project, finishing in a spectacular sweater! I wouldn't change a thing. I would want to wear it as much as possible though because it is so beautiful and looks great on you. You never cease to absolutely amaze me with your skills, patience and tenacity. Excellent execution with a perfect finish! So love that sweater.
Evie, I think you are brilliant! First, you calculate how much fiber to buy to spin into enough yarn for a sweater. Then, you calculate exactly how to spin the yarn to have the stripes of the sleeves match the width of the stripes in the body - amazing! Next, you knit three separate pieces (or is it four pieces?) that end up aligning perfectly! On top of that, you took the time to fix the garter stitch you missed along the length of the sleeve! I’m truly amazed and think your sweater is beautiful and looks great on you! However, and please don’t think I’m being picky, but I vote to fix the sleeve. You are a perfectionist and I think it would be an even more amazing story to tell that you were able to match up the stripes. I know I would be even more impressed by that story! As a sewer/quilter, I look at and notice matched stripes, plaids and seams, and that was the second thing I noticed as you were showing us, that’s why I vote for the fix. Plus, I’d like to see how it’s done too! Either way, it’s really beautiful! 😍💕
Such an amazing project, thank you for sharing your epic journey. I love your thought processes, and your tips like the knotting are spot on. That jumper is gorgeous, really suits you, and it seems you have deep down already decided you would like to leave it the way it is. Go with that, I say 🙂
It really depends on if it will bother you. Most people will not notice it unless you tell them. Will it drive you crazy? Or like you said…”… it tells the story.” The sweater is beautiful!
Leave the sleeve alone. I think it's absolutely fine. Little things like that I think of it as my "Happy Little Tree." That one flaw is our little signature on the project.
Amazing, I love it, don’t redo the sleeve. It’s perfect as is. I only wish I could spin and make a complete garment. Wear with pride. Thanks from Australia 🐨🦘
Bravo ! That was my dream, see a complete finished sweater with all your hand spun yarn. It is so exciting. You are so so daring knitting the two sleeves woithout comparing as you go. Personally I would prefer matching sleeves, but the sweater will be gorgeous anyway. Sweater looks great on you just the way it is!

Always delightful watching you! Great tips for managing the color and braid. Beautiful project, Evie. Well done, you 👏
Thanks so much! I was working on that second sleeve while I watched your latest video. You inspired me to try out a Vermont Spindle. It just arrived and you are right, it spins FOREVER!!! 🧶💜😊
@@JillianEve oh, I am so glad. A a good value, too.
Nice job! I can't believe you matched the stripes so perfectly. I can barely do that when I'm sewing, but to do that knitting is extraordinary. I wouldn't have the nerve. You're a true artist.
Thank you so much! 😊💜🧶
Leave the sleeve! It is so beautiful!!!
Mrs, Jillian you are wonderful and funny. The sweater is beautiful! I love the colours thank you.
Thank you so much!
Your sweater came out amazing! great work, you should be so proud of it!
That's a beautiful sweater. All that planning really paid off, especially how the colours match where the sleeves join. And it's great to see how you repaired the stitch.
Thank you so much! I felt like I was doing some kind of surgery on those stitches when I laddered down, but you can't tell there was a repair at all.
It's gorgeous! I agree, it tells a story!
It looks great as is!!! Great finish 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Your sweater is beautiful! It does tell a wonderful story, so I vote for leaving it as is! 🧶💖
Beautiful sweater . Like the start thru finish video. Thank you. I think the sweater colors bring out your eye color very nicely.
You are such a wonderful inspiration! Your sweater looks great just as it is.
If the sleeve bothers you change it, if not leave it. It looks lovely xxxxx
So beautiful! Glad we could finally see the elusive sweater. Really just beautiful work!!
Little things like that I think of it as my "Happy Little Tree."
That one flaw is our little signature on the project.
Yes! It's my "happy little sleeve". I think Bob Ross would approve!
Amazing, I love it, don’t redo the sleeve. It’s perfect as is. I only wish I could spin and make a complete garment. Wear with pride. Thanks from Australia 🐨🦘
No fixing it’s beautiful 😻 like it is your so talented and nice.
If I had enough wool, I would rip it back but that’s me. It’s beautiful 😍
I love it. It is beautiful. I would leave it.. you always bring me so much joy. Thank you
