My favorite album. Its fucked up bc Mikael has said over and over again that they still never found their sound after the first two albums (Orchid and Morningrise) and that both were absolutely horrible. I think they are goat vocals for him. Screaming/growls are insane
I saw Opeth this wednesday here on Brazil. It was fucking phenomenal, just reforced that they are the greatest band ever for me! You should definitely check Under the Weeping Moon, they played it live and it was RIDICULOUS.
@@rafaelmacedo77 Foi demais cara, eu viajei 1300km de carro do RS até SP só pra ver esses maluco. Valeu muito a pena. Se tu tiver a chance um dia, só vai, pq eu vou no próximo sem dúvidas.
Cara, fui nesse show tbm é concordo 100% com vc. E ter visto esse setlist que eles passam por toda a discografia, tocando inclusive Black Rose Immortal, foi uma oportunidade única!
Oh wow, they still play Songs off Orchid live? I have seen them live 4 times and the oldest track they played on all of those gigs was Demon of the Fall. Under the weeping Moon is my favourite on Orchid aswell
It is unmistakably mid-nineties black metal, but already Opeth were showing signs that they had potential for so much more. Amongst the ubiquitous black metal blast beats and lugubrious riffs, Mikael's beautifully clean vocals blossom like a flower on a twisted black vine. The album cover is very fitting.
@@andreasr7058 I keep hearing people say that Orchid and Morningrise were black. Tbh I never listen to black metal, I'm squarely in the death metal camp so I barely even know how to judge what counts as black metal.
@@jmcsquared18 Morningrise feels a bit more Black I think mostly because of the particular vocal style Mikael was using in that album. Has that sort of dry guttural sound
This tracks is the best on that record imo, amazing. You should try “Black rose inmortal” or “By the pain i see in others” next. Also Thank you for the opeth content :)
Just yesterday I started watching through your Opeth reaction playlist, and now there is a new one :) You really did almost all the best tracks by them of their most favourite albums between "Orchid" (1995) and "Watershed" (2009). Here is a list of the best Songs by them you have not done so far: Orchid(1995): - Under the weeping Moon (my favourite of this album!) Morningrise(1996): - The Night and the Silent Water (much better then "Nectar") - To bid you farewell (First Ballad Opeth has ever written) My Arms your Hearse(1998): -One of my fav records, you did all the great tracks except: "The Amen Corner" Still Life (1999): - White Cluster Blackwater Park (2001): - Harvest (another Ballad) - The funeral Portrait Deliverance (2002): - A Fair Judgement (absolute masterclass, this one is probably in my top 10, maybe top 7 Opeth Songs) - Wreath - By the Pain I see in others (even though Mikeal Akerfeldt doesnt like it) Damnation (2003): You only did "Closure" of this album, this doesnt do this record justice, even though it is completely mellow, it is absolutely beautiful! My favourites: -To Rid the Disease - Windowpane Ghost Reveries(2005) - Beneath the Mire Cheers!
3:21 Dat guitar tone is Jackson RR, Marshall JCM800 Lead50W and either boosted by Boss hm-2 or Ibanez metal screamer pedals. All the gear is listed in Opeth website. Interestingly it is the same exact guitar gear as in Morningrise, the production and mixing is just so much better for Orchid
This album is right up there with Still Life for me. Forest of October, Twilight is my Robe, & Apostle in Triumph are all masterpieces! This album is an all time classic!
3:21 That's what Seymour Duncans through a Marshal JCM800 sound like. For more of that, listen to Megadeth's Rust In Peace. That is how proper thrash and death metal was done in the nineties 🤘
The best Opeth songs, like this take you on a journey, and yes the guitar picking is just awesome, some Opeth songs are long, but everything still have its place, i feel its not because Opeth just fill stuff in their songs, it all have to be there, to create this atmoshere of the song, and make this journey..
Orchid is such an underrated album
I know it
Prog metal is underrated, mate
My favorite album. Its fucked up bc Mikael has said over and over again that they still never found their sound after the first two albums (Orchid and Morningrise) and that both were absolutely horrible. I think they are goat vocals for him. Screaming/growls are insane
Hard to believe how young they were when they recorded this, the muscianship already top notch, this is my favorite of all the early opeth songs.
Can you imagine that he was 21 when recorded this masterpiece?
@@haitham_dannoun he was 21 when the album was released, but he wrote the song when he was even younger, maybe 19
Not related, but if you listen to Johan's Bass at Morningrise. Oh boy. His playing is way ahead of its time.
The live version of this from Royal Albert Hall.....🙌
Crazy to think this song is 20-25 years old.. I downloaded it over 2 days on Kazaa way back in the day, lmao!

deve ser incrível ver eles ao vivo, que sorte a sua.

How on earth can you categorize this as black metal? Show me one other black metal that sounds anywhere close to this?
@@andreasr7058 I keep hearing people say that Orchid and Morningrise were black. Tbh I never listen to black metal, I'm squarely in the death metal camp so I barely even know how to judge what counts as black metal.
this is a mix of melodic death metal and straight up NWOBHM. only thing that makes it kinda black metal is the vocals.

Interesting to know that this is the first song mikael ever wrote, with a different title at the time. He wasn't even in his 20's. Genius.
Watch the live version! So good
"So soft and gentle, it scares me" :D Best quote!
Love this reaction
Opeth - Porcelain Heart (studio version) It's from Watershed album.
This album is right up there with Still Life for me. Forest of October, Twilight is my Robe, & Apostle in Triumph are all masterpieces! This album is an all time classic!
Entombment of a Machine - Job for a Cowboy 🤘🤠

It's about time!
This is a really nice song off this album, but "Under the weeping Moon" is the best one on Orchid. Highly recommended to check that one out

demon of the fall and forest of october were the first 2 opeth songs i downloaded on limewire.
Even I was in my 20's when I first heard this....and boom, now Im 53.
dude I was 14 and now I'm in my late 30's 🤯
3:47- 5:05 That section is my favorite! Beautifully dark and I always compare it to have an Sabbath vibe from the 70's era
Cheers from Australia! It's so clear how this band got signed and resigned. Absolutely fantastic!
Such a great song off on equally great album!! Love your Opeth content!!!🤘
So glad you guys are getting into the first album.
Omg this got me into Opeth I needed a change in music and this is the root of what happened to me in 1994
Well, it's time for Under the Weeping Moon
I’ve always loved the Judas Priest section in the middle of this song. It’s awesome :)
Just so many layers going on all at once
I've been following your journey with Opeth all along, but I can't believe you skip the Porcelain Heart. You definitely should react to that one.
It's an older song, but it checks out !
Guys when are you going to see opeth live?
Please react with (under the weeping moon - live)
Its really amazing
Opeth! Never stop! ❤ Idk what to say, just here to show support again! Like and share peoples! 🤘🏼✌🏼
Gojira love rock en rio
Orchid is probably most beautiful album from them. They were like god's in earlier part of their career.
wait YOU HAVE NOT DONE "A FAIR JUDGEMENT" YET??? After all those Opeth reactions??? whattheheck is going on
Great musicianship, but I'm sorry to say that I really don't like the awful growling.
That's exactly how I felt when I first heard opeth, but I pushed past it and and I'm glad I stuck it out 🎶🤘 but I get it for sure
