You guys bashing Kirk.. Consider how burned out these guys must be. Sometimes your head just isn't with you. It's not like he can't technically play it. He's just trying to remember how the riff goes that he's to learn and record immediately.
+BenjaminMJ absolutely...Ive always thought of Kirk as a lead ninja...his solos are epic...I wont lash him if he struggles occasionally with a rhythm piece...ive heard rhythm guitarists fail when they play lead ...they play to their strengths
what is funny about this are the memories i have of my band. i would come up with riffs that would be jawdroppingly good to them, they would be like wow. and we would have long moments for them trying to learn them, and I had to slow down and teach them. then when i needed to learn their riffs, i had the same problem. it is always easier for the person that made up the riff, for sure no matter how much of a badass the other person is at guitar. there's a learning curve even for the best players *some exceptions here and there.
Just watched SKOM on Netflix and this is not included, just like bunch of other videos available on RUclips. Are there two versions of SKOM or are those some extra scenes?
There was a second DVD with a bunch of extras, some worth watching (like the extended versions of the Mustaine talk, the extended version of the Fuck meeting and the times Bob Rock played with them live) and there are some very cringe worthy (like the one Lars and Kirk colaborate with some shitty rappers in a terrible song or the one Lars gets offended for not being told they were throwing a Hawaiian themed party for Kirk's birthday). The directors also wrote a book ("The Moster Lives") that is... half good let's say. Half good because one half is about the making of this documentary and the other half is about the life of one of the directors. It's an interesting read if you want to know a little more about those years in Metallica's life.
Everyone focuses on the snare but I think I just realized why this album wasn’t that great. They were trying to sound like Korn or someone considered modern at the time
You have literally never listened to the song... It has both the "simplified" version (which was the original main riff, by the way) and the fast version with the notes in between.
I play drums so I can relate to this with other drummers. Some things are easy for others that aren't for me and vice versa. That doesn't make one or the other a lesser musician.
Every guitar player at some point go's through this! Especially if it's not your riff! Kirk has some of the best memorable melodic solos in rock history!
@@hugh300 Enter Sandman Riff, The midd section on Creeping death, The Main Riff, pre chorus riff and interlude of Puppets, The Main riff of the Unforgiven... you know what, just lookfor a video with all the stuff he has wrotte
Just for the record Kirk adapts almost every riff cuz he can’t keep up with james, Just sayin, this is the reason why his guitar is like Half the volume that james guitar has during concerts and why james records all the riffs during studio time
you can see him not able to play creeping death live. He tries to play the rhythm part when James's guitar cuts out on stage and he can't play the riff. He just gives up and waits for the solo portion even though james isn't able to get his guitar fixed for the rest of the song. He's not that amazing of a guitarist
The more simple a song the harder to play with a band I swear! It’s so easy you think I got this! Then start to over think and there’s always one change that fucks it all up😂
It's the little things that can fuck with you hardcore. I always have to put it down and go to sleep and as soon as I wake up, its like magic. Guitarist know exactly what I'm talking about.
lol well those definitely are not quarter notes. It's in the song briefly though. I am sure he picked it up, just we forever have this clip of him fucking up the riff and that's what sticks. That is sorta a tricky riff though, just with those triplets James does. I figured it out by ear pretty quickly, so I am sure Kirk did as well, so I kinda doubt he's the reason they are not in the song so much. It does sound pretty stock without them though. anyone who plays in drop tuning has probably made that exact chord progression during an improv. that's how I learned that song actually. then came to this video to see what it was kirk was fucking up on. course i was just playing the chords w/o those triplets
You are trully ignorant. Go grab a guitar and try playing that riff in different melodic accentuations. Thats what he was struggling with, not the dadadadada da da da.
This is Why I Love James. Music is in his Chromosomes lol. When your Mama is an Artist and Opera Singer... oh the possibilities of Talent. Glad he began honing his skills and advanced them as he ages. Love Sober James, he seems clearer and more open. Kirk lol! His face as he struggles. I've not iced they don't read notes. James tells Kirk "it's this one up here and then you go to that one". Lol. Do they know the names of the Chords lol. Too cute.
James: [breaks down the riff for Kirk]
Kirk: YEAH I GOT THAT
James: ᴏᴋ
I understand Kirk, it must be hard to focus on playing guitar when all you hear is CLANK CLANK CLANK CLANK
And ping ping ping ping
That's not how they record. They do drums last.
I think every guitar player has had this happen to him. When a simple riff fucks with you for some reason.
Like that fuckin´Smoke on the water fucking riff

James is a great rhythm guitar player, he plays the riff with no effort
Yeah he really is. The reason he seems like he's just rhythm guitarist is because he has to focus on singing too
thats cause he made the riff duh
That is true to a certain extent, I've written many riffs for songs, I forget alot of them but I can play them with ease.
man these short clips are awesome, love the whole some kind of monster

Let's see Kirk teach james a few leads next....... Lol. Then we'll see sweating.
I'm bashing him because instead of going home and learning it, they just simplified the riff so Kirk could play it.
Unless people have actually been in a studio to record they can't be taken seriously.
Yeh fuck the stupid camera off and he’ll nail it
The real reason why Some Kind of Monster is never played live.
It is
Its a shame because thats a damn good song
just noticed james used a 7 strings
*YEA I GOT THAT*
God, I know that feeling all too well.
This is what it's all about! :) they seemed so relaxed during these sessions
its always the notes in between that get you in the end

I Really Love This Version Of "Some Kind Of Monster"
And thats why James records all rhythm tracks. ha
Just in AJFA
Nope, all albums until black album.
not true at all
James started recording Kirk’s rhythm tracks since Load/Reload
Matt justice was also only james on rhytm

This is why James Hetfield is regarded as the greatest rhythm guitar player in metal.
The snare lol
I m wondering how is James able to play it with ease.At times I feel he shud ve played a lot of solos
They changed the difficult part of the riff. 😂
I love how even metallica isnt perfect
What is this song?
Karolina Ptaszyńska Some Kind Of Monster
After all that they ditched it and made it simpler.
hahahahaha good one :P
LoL this is the guy they replaced mustaine with 😂
They just make Bob rock a member.
Damn this would be a good song without the snare and add even a little bit of a solo
Sounds like one 0:21 lol
Dave Metallica was the best
Aww they had to un-badass that riff. Man what a joke.
I could do that riff in a few seconds lol

Anyone wants to admit that Lars’ playing was not clean either on the double kick ?
ah what's this riff off? lol

So the dude isn’t perfect, who gives a shit. 90% of people talking shit can’t even play guitar let alone make a decent riff
jesus christ thats a bad snare drum
What song is this from ??
love how it cuts to them playing a simplified version at the end xD
Haha yes that was like: you know what? Fuck this shit let's better simplify this for Kirk

just give the man wah pedal, this what happens if you take man's wah pedal!
