We live in Winter Garden and were just in France 2 weeks ago. We did Étretat, Mont St Michel, Versailles, Disneyland Paris and other Paris sites. It was great we walked over 90 miles during our 9 day trip. Have a great rest of your trip. If you go to Versailles take the time and walk all the gardens, the hidden fountains are amazing to see.
Hey fellow Floridians! That sounds like an incredible trip. And 90 miles... that's impressive! We've absolutely loved exploring Mont St Michel and Paris. Thanks for the tip about the hidden fountains at Versailles; we'll definitely make time for that. Hope you had a fantastic time!
Me and my fiancé will be visiting Paris in one week and we can't wait to explore Mont Saint-Michel! We'll be staying in Montmartre. Any favorite restaurants while in Paris? :) This was so cool and super informative!
Thank you so much! You and your fiancé are going to love Mont Saint-Michel, it's such a magical place. Hmm.. there's so many good restaurants in Paris, it's really hard to make a recommendation. Since you'll be in Montmartre, I'd say to check out Le Consulat to experience a Parisian vibe. Chez Toinette doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is amazing and it'd be good for a date night. Enjoy your trip, and let us know how your visit goes!
I had a house about an hour away from Mont Saint-Michel. We used to visit it regularly. I love the place. Went there on a school trip in the early 70’s and have been back many times since. My advice to anyone wanting to visit is either to get there very early in the morning or go there just before sunset. Most other tourists have gone by then. Also early spring and late autumn are fantastic times to visit. Loved your video 👏
Wow! Such a dreamy area to have a home! Early in the morning was perfect, we watched sunset over the abbey but we didn't make our way over to the island. Thanks for enjoying with us!
Bonjour et bienvenue dans notre magnifique pays, profitez de la France et de tout ce qu'elle a à vous offrir les amis. Bises à tous les amoureux et amoureux de la France.
Visit Mont St Michel in November or December. No tourist. Sometime alone in the streets or in the abbey. When you will hear the wind blowing outside and feel like a dark age monk. A great experience 😌
I'm French and when I was a child (80's 90's) there were much much less people. There were 2 or 3 buses, and the parking lot was 100 or 200 meters from Mont Saint Michel I remember my parents and me eating sauerkraut (une choucroutte) big plate for 40 francs, 6.10€.
I'm the keeper of tickets in our relationship. It's only because I keep things in the same place every time. My wife puts things in random places and forgets where those places are. I'm told it's because she has a lot more to arrange and remember than I do... Probably true...she's amazing in so many other ways. 😊
@@Cameron-x1r we were very surprised by the crowds! But one thing we didn’t mention in the video is that this was the week after the Olympics so that may have created even larger crowds… maybe.
Now you'lll have to go to the eerily similar St Michael's Mount in Cornwall, so called because an abbey was set up there by Benedictines from Mont St Michel in the 11th century. There's no wimpy boardwalk at St Michael's Mount though, just a causeway that gets flooded at high tide - if you get caught on the island when the tide comes in you have to wait for the next low tide!
Thank you so much for this superb video! I'm lucky enough to live in Brittany, between Rennes and Saint-Malo (so not very far from Mont-Saint-Michel), so I must have been there about ten times, and in my opinion the best time to go is obviously autumn and winter, because yes, the Mont is one of the most visited places in France (even more than the Eiffel Tower) :) It's hard to believe it used to be a prison, it's a bit like Alcatraz Island. Incidentally, there's a debate going on in France between 2 regions as to who owns the Mont, I'm obviously talking about Brittany and Normandy (while remaining friendly), it's perhaps one of the most popular debates in France (much more so than our dear politicians 😂).
The opening of the raised causeway has had an effect. It's good for tourism but there are less people that live permanently on the island which is kind of a shame. There used to be a couple of hotels there. I stayed there once and the wind caused weird creaking and moaning noises all night long. I still have a book detailing the history of the place that I bought in the gift shop.
Last time I went there it was 34 degrees and shoulder to shoulder with people. We made it into the gates, looked around, and said "we've been here before anyway" and left
We understand that sentiment. The first day we were there was a bit overwhelming. But the rain did slow it all down a bit in the next days. It’s an incredible place so the crowds make sense!
You can see that Megan is a professional crepe eater. The best crepes are the simplest ones. The ones with chocolates and ice cream and all... they look good but they can't compete with butter+sugar crepes.
She definitely agrees! She was pretty satisfied with her choice and still talks about them weeks later. Guess I'm going to have to learn how to make crepes like they do in France.
I thought I'd solved all my travel problems when I bought a jacket that had sixteen different pockets -I could never find anything, let alone tickets, for years!
Interesting(boring🤔)fact, on the tour you walked up and down several spiral staircases, if you notice from the bottom going up they all turn clockwise, in times of old people attacking up would be at a disadvantage(most people being right handed) people defending could use their sword hand better. Loved the barge trip.👍
We love facts like that! We could have easily cancelled all of our EU plans and stayed on the barge for another month or so. Thanks for enjoying our adventures with us.
Mont Saint Michel is just an amazing place....incredible piece of heaven !

That is a shame to hear. How neat that you stayed there. We saw at least one hotel on the island still open. It looked very charming!
you shoud do a video on bretagne in general (brittany), why it has such a strong identity in centrist france etc
