I would like to file a complaint, sir. Ever since I discovered the joy of fountain pens, I've become addicted. Not only have I found enjoyment in the writing experience, but I've re-learned how to appreciate the simpler elements of life and living. I'm very much looking forward to receiving my package next week and have no doubt it will satisfy my expectations. Thank you for the great information, products, and customer service from yourself and the team.

Finally got myself my first LAMY after having bad experiences with TWSBI. I should have bought LAMY first! Super easy. No fuss. Works beautifully. And I absolutely love the sound it makes on the paper. Sounds and feels like it does to write with a pencil.
If you are using a converter: let out a drip or two back into the ink glass and then pull the converter back to add a little air into it. Prevents the pen from burping in the first sessions of using it. Especially if you face a pressure change after inking up. This will protect your shirt pocket :)

Hey Brian and Goulet fam, I just found your page. I received my first LAMY for my birthday and wasn't a fan because I thought the nib was too small. After using this tutorial, I was able to fill my pen with a stunning aqua colour and the pen is filled nicely, which allows for a delightful inky and smooth writing. Thank you so much for sharing! Hey Brian thanks for the Quick Tip(s). Over the years not a big Safari fan, but I have one or two. Always like the way the converter locks in and doesn’t spin loose when filling and that compared to a lot of other brands a Lamy cartridge very likely not to come out by accident. Both of these advantages are for me out weighed by the incredible force needed to install either for one with arthritic hands and fingers. Duh, I never connected that the shipping cardboard ring to meant I could just screw the barrel to puncture the cartridge or seat the converter. My fingers say thanks for a pain free Safari inking future. Never checked the threading possibilities, so thanks for giving me something else to check and obsess about when screwing a Safari barrel back -Nib logo alignment! Ha, Ha I love this hobby always something to learn new. Best Wishes to you and the rest of the Family, don’t forget to get your vaccine as soon as it is available.

Also just found out from my local stationery store (where I impulsively bought the white Lamy Safari and Amazonite bottle ink for this endeavor) that you guys are nearby in Midlo 😅 Glad to know it! Omg THANK YOU for telling me about the pressure. I just got my fountain pen and I was so scared of breaking it because my hands are big and the fountain pen is quite small and I was so relieved when I realise I have to hear a pop to make sure
I would like to see a demonstration of how to fill the Lamy 2000. I'm not new to fountain pens and have used them for over 40 years. I have many other piston fill pens, including several Pelikan pens, so I know how to fill any piston filler. However, the Lamy 2000 comes with instructions that are visual only, with no written explanation. Not all users relate to visual printed instructions or even written instructions. I think it would be helpful to people who purchase a Lamy 2000 for the first time to see a video that shows how to fill the pen. Thanks so much for your great videos and awesome pens, inks and paper.
Please make a detailed review about your experience carrying the Lamy 2000 as a daily writer. I'd like to know every aspect of your experience with the pen. It is still one of the hottest selling pens out there, and yet confuses new buyers.
Honestly I'm just sad that you guys are based in the States so I can't buy stuff from you. The videos are great and you've put out a real wealth of information. Kudos!
I fill my old cartridges with water with a syringe. Leave them for a week. Then clean them up. All old ink is usually gone. Then, with the syringe I feel the cartridge with whatever ink I want. The old cartridge is good for 4 or 5 refills. The converter has a poor capacity in my opinion
I do this also. After a few refills they do seem to leak, though. Seems a waste to throw away the plastic cartridges. I agree that the converters don’t seem to hold much ink. But other wise I really like Lamy fountain pens. Good reliable favorites that don’t break the bank.
A nifty trick for converters of any brand that have an uber smooth grip like this one on the twisty part. I find them very slippery and difficult to operate. Dry hands, maybe? At any rate, a very small rubberband around the converter's grip solves the problem. I use the type you might find in a drugstore for hair that are about a half-inch in diameter.
I have my fair share of Lamy fountain pens (love them for drawing and note taking) but yesterday I purchased a Lamy Pico pocket ballpoint pen from an art store. They had a lovely display of Lamy pens serving as eye candy while I waited my turn at check out and I couldn't resist purchasing the Pico. Love the pen not a fan that it's a ballpoint. Do you, as a pen connoisseur, know if there any rollerball refills that would fit in the Lamy Pico? Would love this pen that much more if it were a rollerball.
5:29 ....Very interesting ... I never seen this before..... In other videos, (my own experience) FP Scribbers, will detach their Converters , and stick only the converter in the ink well, fill it up fully, then reattach it to the nib section and put it all together. This saves the trouble of having to (5:38) ruin their Barrel section with a strong ink Stains. It is easier to clean a Converter than the Pen.
I bought my first fountain pen from Goulet Pens years ago. Brian spent a lot of time helping me to decide and I got a Lamy Safari. I still have it but it became extremely difficult to unscrew the barrel so I could refill the pen. I even used my teeth to get loose. I put EVO on it and it's kind of okay. What's the WD-40 of the fountain pen world?
You can totally do that. The LAMy ink cartridges have great capacity, so if you’re up for syringe filling you can go longer than you would with just a converter. The cartridges are meant to be disposable of course, so they won’t refill forever (they’ll eventually break) but they should last you several fillings. -Brian G
@@Gouletpens any reason this isn’t a better solution? I like the increased capacity and it will be much easier refilling with a needle opposed to the pen nib
I would love a video about trouble shooting leaks. My Conklin Duragraph Amber is leaking into the pen body, thinking it is a converter issue maybe? And my Kaweco mint green sport about every third filling pours all the ink into the cap, no idea how to fix since it doesn't happen every time...so I've just kinda stopped using them and I miss them😕. Thanks. Great to see you again. 🤓🌻
I’m sorry to hear that! Hmm...I’ll give that some thought. Leaks can come from so many different causes, which can vary from pen to pen. That’d be tough to cover in a general purpose video, but I’ll think on it. It’s usually the result of an imbalance of air/ink interchange...fountain pens allow air to come in (through the filler hole) at an equal rate to the ink that flows out, and if there’s a leaky converter, a bad converter fit, a crack in the converter or pen somewhere, those would all cause leaks. -Brian G
Can you recommend an ink well that has a reservoir in it so that it's possible to immerse the pen just the right distance - so that ink doesn't get on the grip?
Looking for a smooth writing experience with preferably a medium sized nib Is Lamy Safari a good option? The pen in this video felt a bit scratchy I don't want that kind of feedback Want something that'll just glide underneath my fingertips onto the paper Any suggestions in the similar price bracket?
I just ordered my first fountain pen -- Lamy Safari -- from Goulet and cannot wait for it to arrive. I also ordered the converter since I prefer the not-blue-ink it comes with. But I'm curious what bottled ink I can use that may come in a brown/sepia color that is ideally water-resistant and works well with the Lamy? Any thoughts? :) TIA!
This is literally a perfect video topic for me because I just got my studio lx and j herbin vert amazone from you yesterday. One thing you don’t cover that I’m curious about is it ok to fill a converter naked without the pen or should you always use the pen?
I'm not entirely sure what you might be talking about, but... A lot of people clean out the cartridge and then refill it with a new ink of choice with a syringe. Either you let it dry out first and not let the stopper plug the opening or just refill it right away after getting out the dye and most of the water from the cleaning.
@@namope359 I mean taking the converter itself and dipping it into the ink and pulling the ink in that way. The syringe method sounds interesting though so thanks for that.
Its better to fill the capillary things on the feed to do it with the converter on. But I guess there is no issue. Also, when flushing converter helps a lot into cleaning the feed.
@@Primenumber19 Ah, I see what you mean. I tend to almost always syringe fill since most of my set are cartridge only. Otherwise, I fill by the converter method, but only decanted containers (ink put in a smaller place from the actual bottle). I'll fill the same you're describing for brush pens.
I almost always fill the converter naked directly from the bottle and then install it on the pen. It’s perfectly fine. You sometimes need to wait a bit for the ink to go down to the nib.
Brian - I seem to remember ages (decades) back the greenish Safari was standard? Never seen the terra cotta one, tho. Make a nice pair! I always refit with Italic nibs - either 1.1, 1.5 or 1.9mm widths.
For some strange reason with the cartridge (Lamy T10) the flow stops often. To get some flow back I have to turn the pen to its abnormal use (Nib facing up on paper), write a letter or two, then it comes back to normal use. I have cleaned it totally and still no luck.
So I’m new to the whole fountain pen thing and I just ordered this pen , and I also ordered the converter and was going to use it in class for notes am I able to just carry extra converters that are filled with ink to class with me instead of bringing a whole ink well ?
Not converters. They have an open end and would leak everywhere. Cartridges would work better - they are sealed. I use a Lamy Safari in school and have used cartridges and converters with success - just be aware of how full the converter is and you'll be fine. When it's low and you have a moment (outside of class), either refill or change colors
So, yeah, I really like the crystal inks. They are so damn pretty, but I'm starting to run into a problem... The regular, non-crystal™ inks have that little groove/indentation at the bottom of the bottle and you can stick your pen tip in there pretty far, even when the ink levels inside the bottles are low. Ingenious design choice, but the crystal ink bottles don't have that! As pretty as they are from the outside, they fail to give us that easy refill after the ink levels go below half. You gotta tilt it in all sorts of unreasonable ways to get it to suck up any ink and you'll get marked EVERYWHERE! I realize, that I may need to use a different method, but it eludes me at the time. Any ideas would be much appreciated! (You know... other than throwing out the regular ink, so I can fill the crystal ink into the better bottle...)
Does ink brand matter? I like to buy ink sets with matching bottle styles (Montblanc being my favorite) I can’t find a video of you guys saying anything along those lines
Ok so I just did this with my converter and Lamy Safari and while it worked and it looks full. I see a lot of very small bubbles near the plunger I did this twice to make sure it wasn't me doing something wrong. But when I filled it with water yesterday outside of the nib I was able to get a very nice clean fill. Any suggestions.
Hey dude thanks for the video. My two questions are, firstly I’ve been told not to draw the income through the Nib Specially if you’re using a stainless steel because eventually it will be stained or rusted, how true is this? Secondly use a lot of blue, I purchased a bottle of blue ink and there was just so much feeling and refilling I decided to go back to the cartridge. But I’ve always found with the blue cartridges they’re very scratchy. Is there a way to make the blue cartridges flow a little bit more consistently? Cheers from Australia
I don't understand why you attach the convertor to the nib when you fill it. I have several Lamy Safari pens as well as some Platinum pens with convertors I don't use any cartridges. I fill the convertor directly from my ink bottles. I have many Noodlers inks, several Platinum inks, and a few other brands. I have been filling my convertor this way for over a year. I did fill a convertor once with the nib attached. It was so much more messy so haven't done that again. I use a tissue to clean the convertor off before I attach it to the nib. Other than that, thank you for your useful information.
You can totally fill the converter direct from the bottle too! That’s a great way to keep things clean, like you said. There are two reasons why I like doing it the way I show in this video with the converter attached to the grip: 1) you get more ink in the pen. When you fill through the nib/feed, you are not only getting ink into the converter, but into the whole feed, as well, so you get more time before it needs to be refilled, plus the feed is primed and ready to write. 2) attaching the converter gives you more length, so when you need to fill from a partially empty bottle (especially a taller one like Noodler’s, Robert Oster, or Diamine) it’s easier with the grip attached. -Brian G
I do likewise, but for a different reason: when the ink gets low in the bottle, it's impossible to completely submerge the nib and feeder in the ink. I admit that I also use blunt-needle syringes to fill converters, to flush and refill cartridges, and to prime feeders. I'm so cheap I can't even stand myself sometimes :)
Take your pick, you can use any fountain pen friendly ink in your Lamy pretty well. Noodler’s Black or Heart of Darkness is good for everyday use (especially on absorbent paper). De Atramentis Document Ink for artist use/ink washing, platinum Carbon Black or Sailor pigmented inks do better on glossier paper. -Brian G
Do you or any of the other commenters know if I can fill converters with a variety of inks and save the converters and use interchangeably in the LAMY fountain pen?
Converter cartridges for Lamys don’t have a stop seal, so your inks would just dry out. Possibility is maybe to seal them wrapped in Saran Wrap, but you still have to flush out the different color from your pen or it will retain the previous ink which would come out with a different color you pop in. Someone else might have a better suggestion, but what I do is buy another Lamy so they can all be inked, and I pick up whatever color I inked my pens with.

I will have to try this, especially with the Kaweco Sport a friend of mine handed me the other day that he didn't want.
Thank you for this video, and the perfect timing! I just ordered the Safari and converter, so it's good to know how it works. 😁
Awesome! I’m glad I could help 😁 -Brian G
Thank you very helpful 😊
I have my fair share of Lamy fountain pens (love them for drawing and note taking) but yesterday I purchased a Lamy Pico pocket ballpoint pen from an art store. They had a lovely display of Lamy pens serving as eye candy while I waited my turn at check out and I couldn't resist purchasing the Pico. Love the pen not a fan that it's a ballpoint. Do you, as a pen connoisseur, know if there any rollerball refills that would fit in the Lamy Pico? Would love this pen that much more if it were a rollerball.
thank you! very helpful:)
very helpful, thanks!
Tysm that helped so so much
what about syringe filling a used cartridge?
I was considering this just for the increased capacity
-Brian G
Is it possible to merge the cartridge with the converter by removing the plastic cap on the upper side of the cartridge if I use a shorter cartridge?
Thank you for a great video!
Nice informative video
Can you recommend an ink well that has a reservoir in it so that it's possible to immerse the pen just the right distance - so that ink doesn't get on the grip?
I would like to know how to clean the nib/pen if it gets clogged
very helpful... thank you
You mention about cleaning pen before use. How would you suggest doing this?
Looking for a smooth writing experience with preferably a medium sized nib
Is Lamy Safari a good option?
The pen in this video felt a bit scratchy
I don't want that kind of feedback
Want something that'll just glide underneath my fingertips onto the paper
Any suggestions in the similar price bracket?
Thank you! 🇨🇦
:) TIA!
Does this pen feel smooth on paper or is it more scratchy?
Lamys are smooth, there is no scratch. At least I’ve not experienced a scratchy feel through any of my Safaris.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm going to order mine soon
could you fill the whole pen with ink if you use some silicon grease on the threads?
Both the Savannah and Terra were original Safari colors from the 80's. I don't know when they stopped offering each color though. -Brian G
How is the Lamy Obsidian compared to Lamy Black which really like?
Thank you
Thank you!
What is the name of that blue Safari with orange clip at the beginning and where do I get it? Sheesh.
I just purchased my first Lamy pen and I'm wondering...can you use other inks, besides LAMY ink, in a Lamy Safari pen?
Can I only partially fill a converter? If I wanted to use just a little ink so I can change them out often, could I? And what's the best way to do it?
Is it possible for me to change the ink color of my pen? Like as I want to change my blue Lamy blue ink pen to black(without changing the pen)
Can anyone advise me please? I used the Lamy pen with a refill and it seems to have become stuck in the shaft. Anyone know how to get it out?
I don't understand why you attach the convertor to the nib when you fill it. I have several Lamy Safari pens as well as some Platinum pens with convertors I don't use any cartridges. I fill the convertor directly from my ink bottles. I have many Noodlers inks, several Platinum inks, and a few other brands. I have been filling my convertor this way for over a year. I did fill a convertor once with the nib attached. It was so much more messy so haven't done that again. I use a tissue to clean the convertor off before I attach it to the nib.
Other than that, thank you for your useful information.
I do the same thing! I tough it was the right way since is easier and less messy ..... for me. :)
Can you use permanent ink with a Lamy pen?
What kind of black ink did he use??
Hi. Does anyone have a link to a company that sells white ink in cartridges? I use a black paper bujo and just don't want to keep refilling my Lamy.
What water resistant ink do you recommend for a Lamy?
Take your pick, you can use any fountain pen friendly ink in your Lamy pretty well. Noodler’s Black or Heart of Darkness is good for everyday use (especially on absorbent paper). De Atramentis Document Ink for artist use/ink washing, platinum Carbon Black or Sailor pigmented inks do better on glossier paper. -Brian G
@@Gouletpens thanks!
@@Gouletpens What’s the best way to clean a Lamy that you’re using DeAtramentis Document ink in? I assume water won’t do it.
Can you help me with a blotty or blotchy nib
Do you or any of the other commenters know if I can fill converters with a variety of inks and save the converters and use interchangeably in the LAMY fountain pen?
Converter cartridges for Lamys don’t have a stop seal, so your inks would just dry out. Possibility is maybe to seal them wrapped in Saran Wrap, but you still have to flush out the different color from your pen or it will retain the previous ink which would come out with a different color you pop in. Someone else might have a better suggestion, but what I do is buy another Lamy so they can all be inked, and I pick up whatever color I inked my pens with.
Do people ever just put the converter into the ink and suck it up and then put it into the pen so it doesnt get ink on the grip?
I am a person with disability and can only use my right hand. Can the cartridges be filled with one hand only?
Yes, I think that'd work. - Drew
can you reuse the converter?
Yes you can reuse them over and over, but rinse well when filling it back with ink if you are changing the ink color and/or brand.
