The intro was cinema-like!
I try. lol
God bless you, Amy, you will be missed. this was one of my favorites by you..
You are going to love the Eagle. These are built to a high quality and 100% reliable.
Excited to get started
Loved this technical build and your commentary on it. Looking forward to the next instalment. Thanks!
Awesome, thank you!
Yes, me too. I like Amy's video for the same reasons you mention @UKMarkC.
So far, so good with the rebuild. This was an entertaining show, and I’m also a huge fan of the videos by Prima Luche Labs. Fililppo and the crew keep it lively!
Glad you enjoyed it! I love their videos also!
Enjoy the Eagle - I have an Eagle3 and Eagle4 Pro for my two telescope systems. They work very well and not had any problems with them.
Thank you Amy😊
You are so welcome!
I have been running Eagle units from the beginning of my addiction to astrophotography. They do add weight to the package. With my iOptron CEM70G the only cable to be concerned about is the main power to the Eagle unit. Everything else is Wi-Fi. On my Parmount MX+ I reconnected cables so that the power cord is internal with zero wires flopping around. Love them
Very nice!
Great looking telescope you've build, Amy. I love the black/red combination. It never gets bored :-). Congratulations with the new gear of Primalucelab. Clear Skies!
Thank you! Cheers!
Entertaining as always Amy, super video, well done and thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much! 😊
That is one sharp looking setup.
Thank you!
The Eagle is such an elegant solution, I'm still using my 3Pro after 4 years. Go Dawgs!
lol. Thanks
Great Job AMY Welcome to Eagle Land!
Thanks! Excited to finally join.
@@AmyAstro you’re going to love it!
I imagine you have changed it since then, but the eagle should have the sky meter facing the same way as the OTA so you can get useful data from it. You can just move the lens to the opposite side where the cap is so you keep the power on the back side.
Yup All fixed.
good stuff Amy - I have mucked about with this sort of stuff for years. My current solution is to use a mount that has power and USB on the saddle (iOptron CEM70G) and I find that means I dont need to have much mounted on the scope. No need for expensive powerboxes either. I also have Ethernet to my Mini PC, so that avoids Wireless and all its drawbacks. There is no need to have any cables going to the scope, so less chances of cable snags (although you do need to be careful about how much slack your cables have)
Your solution sounds great!
great upgrade, i have both the 3 pro and 4 s and can say best investments ever
Great to hear!
Hello Amy, missing your great videos. Cheers.
Love the video!! I just don’t see the attraction of the eagles vs an ASI AIR PLUS.??
Btw Amy I have the 127mm carbon fiber version of your scope! Older non hex focuser.
Red and black! The University of Georgia approves of that!
(P.S. If UGA isn't a great engineering school, why are all the battery cables in the world red and black? :) )
Too funny
Not to be pedantic lol but it's an Italian product with an Italian name that deserves an Italian pronunciation, and the way it is pronounced is :
Pree-muh-loo-chay meaning "first light" I know it doesn't really matter but I like to think it does 😅😁
Great video! Just wondering if you have the follow-on 'guiding' video in the works...? Am intrigued what you are going to have for that. 🙂
Eventually, At the moment I am using a 30mm guide scope. Nothing fancy, but it works well.
I feel an OAG in the force
lol could be….wink
Great video Amy, but did you put the eagle on the wrong way. The eagle eye is facing backwards. I like the eagle concept other than they made all the power cables proprietary, so ive stuck with my Intel NUCs
No worries, I fixed the eye. lol i struggled with the cable issue at first. They were not cheap. When I realized each cable was carefully sized for each device I was using it started to make more sense. You can also get the plug ends and wire the cables yourself. I am told they are very easy to wire. So if you have a cable that works with your equipment, just purchase the connector and wire away. Don't let the cables stop you.
Amy - this is very useful. I wondered how you like the Eagle 4S after using it for a while? I keep pondering getting one of these but have been put off by the price TBH. Sounds like you got a good deal with an upgraded refurb though. Are you happy with it? In particular what is the wi fi strength like - that is my biggest problem with my current mini PC despite two external aerials.
Wifi strength is great. I operate it about 200' from the house. I have an Orbi wifi system in the house which is great for distance. I have not had any drops and do not notice any lag. It takes under a minute to boot up which is no big deal for me. It takes me that long to walk back inside. I also transfer images in the morning over wifi from the yard to the house PC. Typically in 5 min or less depending on how many images I take. I hope this fall I will have more cloud free nights to play. Yes it is expensive, but it does everything I want. You would never know this is a refurb.
@@AmyAstro thanks for this - very helpful
Congratulations Amy with the new gear, I've been using Primaluce gear for a while now, great stuff but expensive.
One thing though, your Eagle is the wrong way around, the eye sensor should be in front pointing to the sky ;-)
Thanks for the tips! I moved the eye to the other side. I should have done that first. lol
Surprised you didn't get Primaluce Rings, also alot cleaner and better, good luck with it.
I tried the rings. They did not make the size I needed.
Awesome rig Amy. Do you control your Eagle with an iPad
I can, but have not connected it yet.
Thanks Amy for the video. Does anyone know how make NINA read the GPS from Eagle4?
Good question! I'm sure someone does. When I get outside for the GPS to work I will let you know.
@@AmyAstro thanks! I have been owner of Eagle4 for more than a year now. I saw many things including damage of internals with a long screw… oh well… I passed it by sending it to Italy and repaired it. Now all is good.
Hey, where's the section on the kitties ? That's my favorite part. 😼
I know, I debated on re-runs. I will do better. :)
I am finally building my first Astrophotography DSO setup after spending 2 years just photographing milkyway, andromeda, and orion with my Nikon Z camera and Star Adventurer Pro mount. I was considering getting an ASIair Plus (sold out everywhere) or minipc and the Pegasus power box distributor and plug them into either a Deep Cycle battery or Jackery 500 powerstation (expensive) when going to Charlie Elliott Field or North Georgia state parks. I'm not sure what the purpose is of the Eagle 4S. Does this Eagle box replace both the minipc/ASIair Plus and the Pegasus power box? If so, is it better to just get the Eagle box ($1,500) vs Pegasus power box ($330) and ASIair/minipc ($300) for beginners/advanced beginners?
The Eagle is a complete mini PC windows based, with dew heater controller, power distribution, USB hub, plus more. This is an easy solution to work with. You will still need to load your imaging software, guiding software, star maps and stuff. It is a nice package. You will need a solid power supply to run this. Denis R may be able to help with this. You need to do your research and decide if your budget can handle a one time expense like this. Or is it better to get a mini pc, dew controller, power distribution, USB hub. I did this second route for years without too many problems. As I learned, I upgraded as my budget would allow. The Eagle was my next step in my evolution. You will find many folks at CE are happy with the mini pc route. They are also the group who like to tinker all the time. Or build things themselves. Best of luck.
You'll need to move the Eye to the other side facing the stars to get the SQM readings. Love my Eagle - congrats
Thanks for the tip!
Done
@@AmyAstro Great! I don't recall if you are using NINA? If you are, you can add the SQM data to your fits header which helps greatly when comparing your files
Hi Amy: I'm interested in the Eagle 4 Pro for my planetary imaging. What software do you use to communicate with the Eagle? Do you plan on updating the OS to Windows 11 Enterprise? Finally how do you install software on to the Eagle? Thanks
I have not braved windows 11 yet. Treat the Eagle as a PC, connect it to a monitor and keyboard and you are good to go. So easy. When the eagle is outside, I use remote desktop to reach it when I am inside the house. I love it.
The only woman in this community that can put this together ... and please do not take it as a sexist comment as it is so modern these days ...
Thank you! I love building!
Whynot use and ASI Air to control everything?
ASI Air is a great option, I have not ventured in that direction yet.
When is the followup video coming up?
After the observatory is complete. I have used it a few times since this video and it ran flawless.
Thank you very much for the reply Amy. I am going all in with Primaluce and I am watching your setup very diligently and look forward to seeing the final product.
Awesome. Does the eagle compare to Pegasus Ultimate in terms of power? I'm debating going that route also cause rhe UPB is just way too expensive for what it does.
The Pegasus UPB does a good job. You do have to be very careful with the input power. I have let the smoke out of the box a couple times with Pegasus. The Eagle is everything in one box. It is heavier than I expected. The computer in it is fast and reliable. It controls dew well along with power distribution and is a usb hub. Everything connected the first try. The eagle has so many options and ability to grow with you that I can not imagine not having it. My wifi stays connected at 200 yards outside, no problem. The gps capability is amazing. Very helpful if you travel. If I had the money when I started I would have gone the Eagle route. Back then I slowly collected parts and made them work together. I hope this helps, sorry for the delay.
@@AmyAstro thanks Amy. Enjoy your videos! Great work. 👍
It’s been over 2 weeks, how do you like the Eagle? Besides everything in 1 unit, is it really much better than a powerful little NUC paired with the Powerbox? $1500 for the Eagle vs $550 for the NUC Powerbox combo? Beautiful Astro rig btw.
So far I love this unit. It runs outside while I am inside and I have not lost my internet connection yet. Download speeds from the camera to the hard drive is half the time of my NUC. I can transfer files from the Eagle while outside 200 yards away to my pc inside the house in just a couple minutes. This typically took me 10 minutes. The Eagle also handles Dew, Power distribution and usb hub. Everything is working very smooth. So far I am happy.
@@AmyAstro that’s great! Especially the 200 yards and quick download speeds. Clear Skies!
@@brianastrodoc2886 I have a friend who runs PixInsight on their Eagle to do the rough process down to a single image. Then they transfer the single Image to their PC. Best part is their observatory is 100 miles away from their home.
@@AmyAstro that’s amazing!
@@AmyAstro Amy is your Eagle connected to your home’s Wi-Fi as host or as a simple access point Wi-Fi signal?
Use my Eagle4 for my Skycam only. Out of all the kit I have bought this piece for me was my biggest mistake as a Astro Newby. Use the Asiair Plus now for everything..
There are learning curves with everything. Glad you found what works for you.
@@AmyAstro What would be good is a similar product to the Asiar that works with all the Astro Cameras etc out there. That would be a game changer. I have 3 Asiair pluses now on 3 rigs. Works brilliantly for me..
"preema" "looche". And "ekko". :) "Prima Luce" means "First Light".
I'm sure it's very nice. A thousand bucks....
Soooo uhhh how about that Pegasus box…… would you be interested in selling?
lol, It will stay in my stock pile for my next crazy idea.
Looking forward to the no-guiding vid.
lol well I will be guiding. Just in a different way.
starnet guiding lol, thanks Elon
The straight lines they fly help. lol
