I am always astounded by people who deny the fact that racism shaped the very foundation of our country. As a former history teacher, I used texts thirty years ago that were far more explicit in naming the real causes for granting so much power to the individual states in the areas of education, election, property rights, and more than are the classroom texts and curriculum today. When slavery was abolished in European countries, integration replaced segregation, and racist practices declined. The fact that the US Civil War even occurred points to the pervasive fears of the politically powerful of what might happen if non-whites were allowed to attain equality. Manifest Destiny was declared to allow our government to dehumanize native peoples. On and on. Most US Americans now accept voter suppression practices as the norm, while other “first world” nations automatically register all legal citizens and sometimes levy fines for not voting. Corruption, greed, graft seem to be the hallmarks of US politics today. The Electoral College was created by the landed gentry as a work around for the persistence of slavery in the U.S. and to prevent the votes of the lower classes from swaying elections.

The fact that she doesnt understand the importance of the electoral college as well as other issues is scary. And people who also do not understand agree is even scarier. I never understand how people misrepresent history to create a new narrative.
