  • Art journaling is such fun. In these pages I am inspired by honey bees. I will show you my whole process step by step.
    Every like and comment tells RUclips to show this to more people, so please jump in. If you really, really like this content and want to support me you can donate at Kofi. I have just set it up at: ko-fi.com/lizc...
    We start by gathering our thoughts and writing them down to get rid of the scary blank page. Then we collect collage papers and stick them down. I'll share a few tips about balancing a page and gluing. Next we seal the papers with both white and clear gesso, before going on to the fun part. Using a cheap plastic stencil and modelling paste we will add a layer of texture. Once dry it is time to get the colour on, using watercolours. I'll give you some tips on composition and where to place your focal point. Next I paint the bee, but you can print and collage if you prefer. Then we are on the home straight and do some finishing touches.
    I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

    Love bees so much. I take a picture of my spread before moving the pieces so that when I go to glue them down I know how I originally placed them. That is just me. Thank you!

    This is lovely! I love bees. So much so, that I had a fuzzy bumblebee tattooed on my left thumb. When I was very little, the house we lived in had a small outhouse, and just outside it, there was a mysterious missing brick in the wall and some bees moved in and built their hive inside the wall. We had three apple trees in the back garden, too. Bees love apple blossom! This is a lovely page in a journal, too. I particularly like the wee touches of gold. I've used liquid gold leaf before, particularly in the last big project I did - a series of mixed media abstract pieces based on the lives and works of William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe. It's so shiny! I've never tried gold leaf in flakes or sheets before, though. It all looks a bit too fiddly for me, but I could perhaps be persuaded to experiment with it one day.

      be warned gold leaf is addictive. If you don’t move fast in our house, you are likely to get gold-leafed….

    Greetings from Pensacola Fl New to your channel! I’ve been studying bumble bees in my backyard for 3 summers now and am intrigued with them so this is just up my alley. Anything with bees makes my heart sing- lol 🐝🌻 I discovered some bumble bees actually sleep on the back of my sunflowers so they have lots of nectar and pollen first thing in the morning before everyone else. I’ve gone out during the night with my camera to film a bumble bee still in the same spot sleeping. I have lots of photos and videos of the bumble bee- they are so beautiful. Thanks for doing something with the bees! 🐝🐝🐝🌻🌻🌻🌻🥰
    Forgot to say I love watching the honeybees as well and enjoy watching them fill the little baskets on their back legs with pollen to carry back to their nest. They are amazing and it’s the female honey bees that do all the work collecting the pollen and take care of the nest. The male bee is used for mating with a queen and then poor guy gets booted out. I feel sorry for the male honey bee.

    This is really wonderful. I really liked the modeling paste and the stencil. And the watered down brown added such a nice aged look. The way you presented this made me feel as if we were doing it together. Lovely. Thank you. 🍃🌸🍃

    Liz, I would love to know more about different mediums in one video, like the matte medium, gesso, wax medium and all the others. I see them all at the art store and its a bit overwhelming to know what they're all for. It would be nice to know how you use different ones to see if there are some that would be great to start experimenting with.

    I used to feel guilty about ripping up books until I observed a huge metropolitan charity do their yearly book sale. Any book that didn't get sold went into an enormous dumpster at the end of their sale month. Zero guilt from me henceforth. I will use every page as I see fit. 😂

      As usual, I totally forgot my original intention for writing a comment. I follow the junk journaler 49dragonflies and she does a great top-down method of adhering the elements to the page. Literally glue from the closest to you in layers until you attach the conglomerate to the page. It works like a dream!

      100% there's a huge number of books going straight to landfill, not actually being read. May as well repurpose into art.

    I just love this! In its early stages, I’ll admit I wasn’t so sure about it all but then you began to tie all of the elements together and made something magical. I focus almost exclusively on watercolor and I’ve started doing a bit of line and wash but now you’ve got me thinking! This is great just for fun in a journal but I think it could also be awesome for larger artwork on heavy watercolor paper or canvas. Probably better to do it on canvas - what do you think? Sheesh - I may need to add some modeling paste and gesso and who knows what else to my Dick Blick shopping cart. 😬.

      I too adore watercolour but love to see how far you can push things. I’ve used these techniques in larger pieces. I used a wooden art panel/ cradle board as my sport and they worked out really well ( in my humble opinion 😁)

    • @LoriJ1962
      @LoriJ1962 9 месяцев назад +1

      Oh that’s an even better idea! Thinking about it, it could be hard to frame something like this done on paper. A wooden panel is a great idea. Thanks for the feedback.😊

    The next time you are torn between ripping up a children’s book and giving a child the chance to read it, you might consider getting some cream-colored paper for your home printer/copier and making a copy of the page you’d otherwise rip up.

    • @3534538
      @3534538 9 месяцев назад +3

      I think in this case the paper already is too brittle for a child to enjoy 😕

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  9 месяцев назад +3

      sadly the binding/glue had gone on the book, so it could not go to a child. I give my unwanted books to charity all the time. I think it is better it is reused in some way and if not possible then recycled, but I still feel guilty about tearing books, as I was brought up not to do so.

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  9 месяцев назад +2

      you are 100% correct! The glue on the spine had gone and the pages are loose. I still don’t like tearing pages up. It goes against the grain! @3534538

      Dear Liz , don't beat yourself up about ripping up pages , I also adore books and have many and always donate any books that I don't want anymore, but you are creating art and are recycling the pages which might not even have lasted as long as you journal will , so carry on and enjoy the process. Lovely end result 👏❤️
