OMG are you serious?? He just snapped it in half? What did your parents do/say about it? That's mad! The candle one is hilarious but strange. OMG! Are you serious Carrie?? That was you?! I remember the advert!!! XD I was wondering where the elephant never forgets thing came from.
I worked over 50 hours a week to support me and my dad. Buying a 'very expensive camera' and 'Apple hardware' involved me putting them on a credit card, which I still haven't paid off. I took a risk in buying them to escape the situation we were in and thankfully it paid off. I chose not to go to Uni because I hated the idea of that debt. Don't try to 'have an idea' when you know absolutely nothing about me.
Completely correct, and Alex is someone that first inspired me to make videos! I started out not knowing any other RUclipsrs, but I kept going and... now I'm at this stage, somewhere I never imagined I'd find myself. Keep going!
One of the reasons elephants got the reputation of 'never forgetting' is because of how well they remember other elephants. :) One story I read about two elephants getting euphorically excited when seeing one another when put together in a zoo - the keeper found out both the elephants had been together in a traveling circus 23 YEARS before. They apparently sniffed and mingled with each other like old friends. How cute is that! There are so many stories like that, it's great. :) Loved the video!
Hi Carrie! The expression 'an elephant never forgets' comes from much of their behaviour - travelling the same migratory routes every year etc, and recently at a zoo in the UK, two elephants were reunited after being separated for many years and it was clear that they remembered each other and there was a beautiful reunion! Sophie :)
Carrie, I've noticed people are being very nice to you today (about time). I figure I'll keep the train going by telling you that you look lovely, you have a beautiful voice and I think you're an incredible person. I hope wherever you are, reading these comments gives your day a nice little boost, just as your videos sometimes give me when I'm down.
I watched that commercial, and they played that commercial here in the states! I always wondered if the girl was British, or they just coached her...ha! It was Carrie!! Lol!! Too fun!! Now, as for elephants...they do remember. I have a friend that is the head keeper at the San Diego Zoo, and yes, they remember, cry real tears, and greet each other like we do. They also care for their young just like humans, rescuing babies, and working together to get things done. I love elephants. :-)
"Have a nice holiday! I wish I was going with you!" That's the nicest reaction to an aeroplane interruption I've ever saw on RUclips! (And it's good to know I'm not the only one who waves at them! >
Random bits of your thoughts. Only Carrie could do this and it be one of the cutest videos ever. Carrie, I'm genuinely convinced you're genuinely made of awesome.
That was by far the most adorable pokemon reference ever. I remember that advertisement with Cheerios was always one of my favorites. And I do think we all go through a phase of cutting our own hair.
Thanks for responding to the thing with the background music! Wasn't expecting you to do it in a video, but I guess that says something about your relationship with your audience:) Thank you!
Well, if you ever get to go Whale Watching, they often come close to the boats and flap their flippers or tails or turn sideways & stick a flipper up, roll on the surface, jump and breach and the little ones are so cute! So, I just always think splashing, jumping. Happy, Free. Lots of animals never forget- a mute swan I helped rehabilitate knew me after a three year absence. It was so amazing. And elephants are said to have longer memories. They can paint, as can cats & some primates.
My mind is SOO blown right now! I remember that commercial from when I was a little girl! And now I'm watching Carrie in her videos and she's 20. That girl is Carrie! What?!
Elephants are amazing creatures! They are way smarter then people take them for. They say elephants never forget because they always remember locations of things ( such as locations for water, good food areas ) and people through scent, much like dogs. :)
Elephants do have really good memories. The are constantly traveling around Africa from water hole to water hole, and they have proven that t elephants always remember where every water hole they have been too is. Which is vital for their survival during droughts . They are highly intelligent creatures =)
Omyword that was my favourite commercial as a kid! No joke, I would get so excited when it came on :) the wolf always scared the crap out of me but because I was a strange child I liked that XD
The Psyduck just took most of my attention throughout the entire time. Nothing against you, it's just an awesome picture! I tend not to mention this, don't think I ever have, you have lovely drawings!
Hi Carrie! I think the reason there is a phrase "an elephant never forgets" is because they actually have incredible memories when it comes to traveling long distances. Elephants rely on a strong sense of direction to find watering holes miles away across the savannah, and then rely on that sense of direction to go back the way they came. I'm pretty sure I remember that from a wildlife documentary or something.. gahh. If only I was an elephant, then I would remember! haha :)
Love the pointed comment aimed at Alex at the end. Also love the intro! I still get childishly excited when I hear that music for some reason. And look! found me a new one.
Elephants are known to remember stuff even if years go by, like places where there is water in the ground, or even when they walk past a dead Elephant they recognize it and if an Elephant in the group dies they have a little funeral and they put leaves on the dead animal. Besides having a great memory, they are very social and compassionate :) Elephants are my favorite wild animals!
I have an answer to one of your questions! "Elephants never forget" comes from the natural phenomena by which elephants remember migration routes over generations, by passing the information along from a matriarch to her daughters. People saw the same elephants walking the same obscure route year after year and were impressed that they never forgot it even after years and years.
Elephants have shown the capability to remember every place they have ever been to. I vaguely remember reading an article about elephants and the mental maps they can keep. I love elephants.
The phrase an elephant never forgets comes from when an elephant dies, when the other elephants migrate and do a full circuit they will pass where the elephant bones are and stop and cry. Asddfgghjkl the feels
I REMEMBER THAT COMMERCIAL! We had it over here in the US. I remember it because they haven't come out with a better one! Oh wow, Carrie. I can't believe that's you!!!
You're so talented Carrie! :) I wish I'd had all those opportunities when I was younger, but I'm 13 now and slowly making my way through the acting world! :) You're such an inspiration! Xxx
Carrie, one of the reasons people say elephants have good memory is because of the elephants Shirley and Jenny. They were abused circus elephants that were separated and then reunited 22 years later, still clearly remembering each other. There are videos and articles about it on the web which can tell you way more than I can, but I'd watch the videos, they are so amazing!
I heard that the term "an elephant never forgets" comes from the fact that they actually not forgetting. For example elephants in zoo can never forget who treated them bad and it often happened that they... "revenge" (I don't know if that's the right word for describing that the elephants knew who was the bad person and gave them a hit with the trunk or something eventually). There are videos on RUclips about that I guess.
Well I don't know if ALL elephants have a good memory, but there were these elephants that our local zoo, and one of them got sent to another zoo, but they were reunited in an animal hospital place 10 or 15 years later and they recognized each other immediately and gave each other elephant hugs with their trunks.
Ah im so happy :) so in her ustream i asked Carrie how she got started in musical theater and then she answered me by telling about the ad and about how she demanded to be an actress, and then she tweeted the ad and now she has put it in a video. :D this is why you should do more ustreams/younow carrie!
This was hilarious as always! I see soo much of my own kind of humour in you Carrie, it's unreal! especially in your video about wolf whistles! im not on youtube but I know if I was I would defo want to collab with you some day! Keep doing what you're doing cause it's brilliant xxx
Haha I am so relived I am not the only person who waves at planes and says have a nice holiday. Everyone always looks at me weird when I do it. But now I feel better.
Omg, I remember that commercial!!! I worked on a register once. If it isn't busy I might smell some candles a customer got. Because I like the smell of things. Also if I were to smell them I would use that as a conversation starter. "Oh, these smell really good! Do we have them on sale? The colors are gorgeous!" Though I would never snap someone's bread, I would get in trouble for that i I did!
I absolutely love all of your videos! You seem so down to earth, yet still interesting! And I love your hair! I wish I could pull off a big bow like that!!
I like that you randomly say hi to passing airplanes. I have this weird quirk where I blow a kiss to airplanes that fly over. I'm not sure why I do that, but I do, kind of as a "safe flight, I hope you have fun" thing, and it always makes me feel less weird when someone else does something like that too :)
Elephant never forgets comes from the fact that elephants could be separated for up to 40 years and then come back together and still remember each other c:
You're totally right. Also, if one of their herd die during their travels, they mourn them, and upon returning to the place that they died, they remember losing them and mourn again.
The phrase "An elephant never forgets" probably came about due to their migration patterns. They walk for miles and miles across the plains of Africa, but always manage to find the same watering hole every year. They then pass this knowledge into their children who then find that same watering hole themselves. It's amazing really.
The saying about elephants came about because for years the same herds (I think they're called herds?) go to the same watering holes, the ancestors take the children and they take their offspring to the same lakes/rivers etc year upon year. Which is something super advanced for animals, apparently.
For the end part of the video because I couldn't find the proper video: When we undid each others bindings on that ski trip and you called me magical, it still sticks in my mind :)
Evildollop is correct about the migration part. They are also known to remember where a member of their herd, I think that's the right term, has died for years and will mourn the spot as they pass it en route.
Elephants have a really good memory, that's why we say that. They can come back to a place they lost a baby or something, and mourn, years after they died.
I remember watching that commercial when I was young! That is the strangest thing - it's like my childhood just stopped by to say hello for a second....
Elephants do actually have a really good memory, they even take their babies back to where members of their family have died and show them the exact place where they died. Even if that family member died like 50 years ago, they keep going back to that exact spot. It's sad and cute, like an elephant graveyard.
I remember that advert! That's so strange to think it was you. Thank you for this video though :3 really cheered me up this morning in the midst of my third day of being plague ridden
Elephants are known to remember the exact spot at which there is a water source in a desert and after migrating (or whatever) they come back to it every year. That's where their reputation comes from :)
I read an article for one of my comparative psych classes that elephants are able to remember locations really well. There was also something about elephants holding grudges against past abusers!
Elephants really are incredible, they can recognize another elephant that has died just from smelling the bones (which is a little weird) if they were part of the same family
Carrie, they say elephants never forget, because they never forget a face. I know about this one study by Carol Buckley that after 23 years of separation, two elephants recognized each other, and remembered each other's scars. There is a lot more to back up the fact that elephant never forget a face, though....

The thing about the elephants is, as far as I know, that when they are little they are tied to this post and they try to break free but since they are so small they can't. Thing is, when they grow up and are like ten times larger and stronger, they still think thet can't! They remember not being able to brake the chain that ties them!
elephants never forget, i think it comes from a story i once heard: in a circus they tie up baby elephants with chains to sort of cage, they are not strong enough to escape, when they get older the chains get switched by ropes, but because when they were younger they never could escape from the chaines, they think that they also won't escape from the ropes and so they will never try to escape. it's kind of sad.
The expression 'whale of a time' is used to convey the enormity of emotions of which were present during the activity in which they were taking part in.
I know that, for one thing, they've had a lot of luck training elephants in captivity, which requires a certain degree of memory. But I'm pretty sure the main thing is that mother elephants in the wild lead their herds back to watering holes and things that they were last at years ago. That's why they have the reputation.
that ending is too adorable, just so cute. Most RUclipsrs get really annoyed at planes and other noises, Carrie just turns super cute!!
Ooh chocolate frogs!! At my resident chocolate shop they sell them along with chocolate horse heads and that got me thinking why just the heads!!??
elephants really do have a great memory ability!
Sometimes, I wish I had your patience. So respectful to those who disrespect you. I admire that more than you could ever know. xx
That's what I'm like when an aeroplane passes me. I'm like "I WANT TO BE ON THAT PLANE WITH YOU".
Most of the time when someone shows their first acting job, it's some obscure clip you've never seen. But this one I actually remember seeing.
OMG are you serious?? He just snapped it in half? What did your parents do/say about it? That's mad! The candle one is hilarious but strange. OMG! Are you serious Carrie?? That was you?! I remember the advert!!! XD I was wondering where the elephant never forgets thing came from.

Yep, we're lucky Carrie, lucky to have found such an incredible person like you on RUclips
I lost it at the "ooh no!" when the chocolate frog fell out of the box. Awh bless you Carrie.

this has got to be one of my favourite videos on RUclips, gotta love Carrie Fletcher!
I can always count on you to make me smile. Thanks carrie. You seem to be the only one recently... Thanks again, it means a lot.

I figure I'll keep the train going by telling you that you look lovely, you have a beautiful voice and I think you're an incredible person. I hope wherever you are, reading these comments gives your day a nice little boost, just as your videos sometimes give me when I'm down.
I really like this style of video, Carrie. There's no specific subject, you're just talking about your life. You're a great storyteller.
I watched that commercial, and they played that commercial here in the states! I always wondered if the girl was British, or they just coached her...ha! It was Carrie!! Lol!! Too fun!! i definitely remember that commercial! Amazing how I watch the videos of that cheeky little girl years later.
I REMEMBER THAT COMMERCIAL! I loved it! I cannot believe that was you and now I watch your videos and you inspire me!
"Have a nice holiday! I wish I was going with you!"
That's the nicest reaction to an aeroplane interruption I've ever saw on RUclips! (And it's good to know I'm not the only one who waves at them! >
i don't know why but this is my favourite video of yours-to be honest i think it's just the candle story, it gets me every time!
Random bits of your thoughts. Only Carrie could do this and it be one of the cutest videos ever. Carrie, I'm genuinely convinced you're genuinely made of awesome.

Oh my goodness, Carrie, I remember watching that commercial when I was a kid! This world is indeed small.
Hi Carrie! I think the reason there is a phrase "an elephant never forgets" is because they actually have incredible memories when it comes to traveling long distances. Carrie, the entire time I just kept thinking, "I really like that hair bow." That is a super cute hair bow.
I REMEMBER THAT COMMERCIAL FROM WHEN I WAS LITTLE OH MY GOD CARRIE. THAT WAS A BLAST FROM THE PAST SO HARDCORE.
Love the pointed comment aimed at Alex at the end. Also love the intro! I still get childishly excited when I hear that music for some reason. And look! found me a new one.

I swear I've seen that commercial before on TV but obviously had no idea it was you!! Aw!! I'm surprised to see you without your curly hair!
I cannot BELIEVE that's YOU in the commercial!! Life is a magical thing, you know.
You're totally right. Also, if one of their herd die during their travels, they mourn them, and upon returning to the place that they died, they remember losing them and mourn again.
Oh, wow! I definitely remember seeing that Cheerio commercial when it was still airing. Very very cool.
OH MY GOD I REMEMBER THAT COMMERCIAL. I LOVED THAT COMMERCIAL.

I love how calm and politely Carrie deals with all the haters. It is really inspirational.
OH MY GOSH I so remember that Cheerio advertisement! So cute!
As someone who worked behind a counter for a year... It's not easy to resist smelling the candles. Or the coffee.
oh. my. GOD. i've seen that commercial a hundred times. that is so awesome.
I am flipping out right now that you were in that commercial. I remember that commercial. My whole world is being turned upside down...
Evildollop is correct about the migration part. They are also known to remember where a member of their herd, I think that's the right term, has died for years and will mourn the spot as they pass it en route.
"Some people swear at their audiences." YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH I JUST LAUGHED OH MY GOD.

I read an article for one of my comparative psych classes that elephants are able to remember locations really well. There was also something about elephants holding grudges against past abusers!
I remember that commercial! Just think I had no idea who your where and now all these years later I find out! That was a crazy blast form the past. :)
Omg! That was you! I totally remember that honey but Cheerios commercial when I was younger!!!
we can tell elephants have a good memory because they sometimes go back to the same place after like 50 years
1:50 mini heart attack "do they actually move? What joy, my dreams exist!"
Then suddenly realize gravity was working.
*sob*
Elephants really are incredible, they can recognize another elephant that has died just from smelling the bones (which is a little weird) if they were part of the same family
I was so jealous of your cape in the Cheerios commercial when I was little.
I like the collective story and idea style of this video:)
Carrie, they say elephants never forget, because they never forget a face. I know about this one study by Carol Buckley that after 23 years of separation, two elephants recognized each other, and remembered each other's scars. There is a lot more to back up the fact that elephant never forget a face, though....
I remember seeing that commercial!! That's amazing. Also, you sound like a hilarious little child.
Elephants are said to never forger because they know where to migrate. I saw a study once that showed how elephants went to the same place even after X generations, and even those groups of 'outsiders' knew where to go without any other elephant show them the way.
Carrie, you always seem to put a smile on my face :)
The thing about the elephants is, as far as I know, that when they are little they are tied to this post and they try to break free but since they are so small they can't. Thing is, when they grow up and are like ten times larger and stronger, they still think thet can't! They remember not being able to brake the chain that ties them!
The took an injured elephants from its herd and brought it back 15 years later, and it still remembered its pack, and they rembered him.
elephants never forget, i think it comes from a story i once heard: in a circus they tie up baby elephants with chains to sort of cage, they are not strong enough to escape, when they get older the chains get switched by ropes, but because when they were younger they never could escape from the chaines, they think that they also won't escape from the ropes and so they will never try to escape. it's kind of sad.
You are so creative, it just blows my mind...
The expression 'whale of a time' is used to convey the enormity of emotions of which were present during the activity in which they were taking part in.
When a plane goes over in normal videos people go "damn a plane I have to redo that", only Carrie would wish them a happy holiday!
I know that, for one thing, they've had a lot of luck training elephants in captivity, which requires a certain degree of memory. But I'm pretty sure the main thing is that mother elephants in the wild lead their herds back to watering holes and things that they were last at years ago. That's why they have the reputation.
