I like how you guys try to get someone who is part of the culture to discuss different shoe types. A sneaker fan for sneakers, an actual skater for skate shoes… etc. people who understand what we actually want and what we pay for when we buy stuff. It’s nice. Keep it up!
I remember when they first arrived on the skate scene. Skaters didn't like the way how forced their marketing was. Just out of the blue, almost EVERY pro skater you see was wearing them, Battle of the Berrics was sponsored by them, etc. Too fast and too forced for a company that supposedly just started up at the time. From a business perspective, I respect the hustle. But from a skater perspective, definitely didn't feel like a genuine company that cared about skating. Felt like a corporate startup taking advantage of skaters
I bought them to skate around a year ago : The first days these shoes feel absolutely perfect, the flick is great and the board feel is well balanced. With that said after only a couple of sessions the shoe starts to get way too soft and rips quite fast, in short they aren't worth your money
I prefer shoes to be stiff and substantial and require some breaking in. A shoe skating well out of the box is a red flag for exactly the reason you described
@@diplenski yeah it’s definitely all up to your preference. I also prefer boards that need a break in time rather than boards that break in straight away. They seem to razor tail real quick and snap on high impact.
Another hint that these are marketing scams: The founders are already high-tier fashion execs in Brazil, they aggressively position Cariuma as a Brazillian brand but not only they were never made here, they were never meant to be sold here. At first they were only sold at a few high-level online fashion storefronts and only now they are getting into some skateshops for the low, low price of around US$120. Just for comparison a Vans Chukka Low on the Vans official website goes for around US$90 and a higher-tier local brand sells for around US$ 70-80

@@krandlez The Brazillian skateboarding market is an oddity. On paper we are self-sufficient: we have local brands of skate decks, trucks, wheels, hardware... The Cariuma OCA Lows were the first (and only) sneaker i ever made the mistake of buying due to hype and marketing, and I was unbelievably let down. I was working in an office at the time; and both counter covers, both outer logo appliques, and both outsoles all started falling apart within a month of me working in a job where I just sat on my ass all day. Still pretty annoyed at how much of a waste they wound up being.
That's crazy, I heavily skated two pairs of Catiba Pros for 3 months each before anything started to fall apart. Their casual shoes must be built horribly in comparison.
I think people like low tops because the ankle mobility allows for a larger range of motion, which helps for more techy flip tricks and flicks. also some find them easier to style but that really shouldn’t be considered first

Probably in terms of skating, maybe NB or Nike, might be better, I'm not sure as I've never own those. In terms of what they stand for however, I don't see them differ as much from Adidas, Nike, New Balance, etc. Maybe the only difference is that they have actual skaters and people from the community running the teams which is great. u can instead do an acid test on the fabric instead of sniffing the burn off smoke, u can do a burn test thru observation as polyester and cotton has a different burning characteristic also we know cotton will dissolve with some strong acid and polyester won't
@RoseAnvil Should cut a moon boot in half I’d be curious to see the inside of one of them big thick boots that you can wear on ether foot. Soposta have foam that molds to ur foot.
the boot breaker foam shims are a great idea. i always stack my insoles in my skate shoes, especially vulcs. have some first gen fp flat insoles i put under some nike sb lunarlon koston1 insoles. makes any vulc vans highly comfy. how squishy are the foam boot breakers?
My ex bought me a pair…wore them ONCE and with zero complaints just made a negative association with her; so off to the thrift store they went!! Now I know!! They just seemed “off” to me! Will try and check out these other skater owned companies!
Footwear in general can be really shoddily made so it's always a risk buying any shoe online without trying it. I was buying some Vans slip-ons and there was a coin shaped object glued in under the insole, could have been a piece of cardboard or maybe it was an actual coin, who knows. They just left some junk in the shoe and glued right over it. And that foxing material can really be hit and miss. Seems like Vans with white foxing just melt in days but the gum color foxing seems to last a lot longer.
Getting one shoe more pointer than the other (or simply they having slightly different shapes) is something that has happened to me on several brands by now and I honestly hate it. Same with the “toe bumper” of the sole being glued differently (more to the left or right) on each shoe.
Nice,, honest review. Itd be cool to see what you think of the Etnies Joslin. Heard lots of good things about the,m, and Sole Tech (the parent company) also does lots of good enviromental work, but doesn't make it the reason to purchase the shoe.
I don't think the wear on the toe is as indicative or predictive of wear. Your tester happens to use toe to flick - myself I use further down the side, and I know people who use the side of their foot to flick, meaning other parts of the shoes get wrecked first. Even when I was kickflipping all day every day it took a good month to get through a pair of shoes (I've been skating for over 40 years, and was sponsored by Vans, DC, i-Path, so I know my way around). So, to sum up, the wear you will get out of a shoe depends on your technique. And I hate Cariuma for all the same reasons everyone else does. Aside from that, good work guys, love your content (originally came here for the boot/non-skate stuff).
I like their vallely model a lot bought it 2 times. First pair is almost died in one and half season, but i bring it to the shoerepair and it glue a new sole to them, so i think i will ride them one more season. And second ive just bought in case of first pair die. I ride mostly in miniramps so i dont flip a lot. I don't like generalizations, but I understand that the title of the video is more of a clickbait. Also i dont like that it is only a one point of view video. you could find easily someone like me who likes their product, but you just go trough easy path. What i like in their shoe is: they are very comfortable straight out of the box, they feel realy soft. Before them i tried a lots of shoes, nike(PR, janossky, ...), lots of vans, adio, dc, adidas. And liked adidas 3st a lot. they feel also realy comfy. Vallely is more durable then catiba because of ruber toes. They are more on the grip side then on the wear resistance, like vans. But for me they are more comfortable then vans. only one downside for me is the big logo. i dont realy like their logo and dont like it so big... Sorry for any mistakes, English is not my native language.
so it looks like these definitely need to be skated with rubber grip if you want them to last longer than two weeks. good to know. thanks for the video!

My ex bought me a pair…wore them ONCE and with zero complaints just made a negative association with her; so off to the thrift store they went!! Now I know!! They just seemed “off” to me! Will try and check out these other skater owned companies!
curious to see the War Saw shoes!
Can you guys PlLEASE test some Warsaw shoes?!. Hours?!?!? Thanx!!
How come you don’t keep the laces?
Weston will steal leather laces off boots but they don't really have a use for more basic cotton/fabric laces
You should do an episode on Jamie Thomas' new company Warsaw.
Never tried them...never will, keep the skate videos coming tho
Sick! More skate shoes plz
eS, etnies, Asics and Fallen would be good to see next.
How about Jamie Thomas new brand warsaw next?
You guys should do the es muska😮
Do LAKAI Cambridge next, please 🙏
Getting one shoe more pointer than the other (or simply they having slightly different shapes) is something that has happened to me on several brands by now and I honestly hate it. Same with the “toe bumper” of the sole being glued differently (more to the left or right) on each shoe.
I heard that they don't sell in skate shops?
Id really like to see hours is yours. Herman stands for style and I wish to know about their quality.
Can you review Justin Ropers? There’s barely any videos online reviewing them😢
Isn't Mike V sposnored by them?
Wish youd make a boot breaker to fit sizes 14-16
Gifted Hater mentioned???? 🙏🏼❤️🩹
Nice,, honest review. Itd be cool to see what you think of the Etnies Joslin. Heard lots of good things about the,m, and Sole Tech (the parent company) also does lots of good enviromental work, but doesn't make it the reason to purchase the shoe.
I don't even skate but these are fun to watch and learn from
I have a pair cuz I like the way they look. they are actually comfortable . they skate decently. way way way more comfy than vans classics.
Please do the Nike SB React Leo! ❤
Please do a tear down of the Red Wings Traction Tred Lite 2442.
I would really like some old school shoe examining, like airwalk nts,540....
Skating is about image vibe. Back in my day we had a word for that.
It's called CULTURE. Look at the commercialization of hip hop and how watered down it has become.
@spht9ng Speaking of posers.
Hey, y’all, congratulations on the GQ article! I can say I knew you when.
SO WHEN ARE YOU DOING A REVIEW ON "KEEN CINNCANTI" ?
Added two boot breaker insole, thought the 2nd one is 50% off, but still showing full price
Can you make wider insoles for barefoot shoes?
Northsole Insoles got you covered
Perhaps the Es accel og or slim
I didn’t check, but I’ll feel really stupid if you already made a video about this
wouldnt it make sense for a skate shoe to be foot shaped?
I think Cariuma’s are functional skate shoes, but I would never rock them when I could just get some “Last Resorts “ for pretty cheap already.
Please review SPLAY HI REV SHOES AND STRIKE MVMNT SK8 SHOES
Ipath is back!
I like the Lakai Telford but use my own insole. I've purchased a couple pair at this point.
so it looks like these definitely need to be skated with rubber grip if you want them to last longer than two weeks. good to know. thanks for the video!
