Liselle, I want to write novels too and have been stuck in my sci-fi novel, but your content helps a lot and thanks to them, I've been having many breakthroughs, thank you!
Hi, Liselle. Love your videos. I just wanted to ask if you could briefly explain what your second draft process is. Because you are a plotter, so you literally draft based on your outline. Whenever I try to do that I miss so much I have to rewrite several times to get the story. But you seem to keep the story pretty much in place after draft one, so I'm wondering what is your editing style. Do you do passes, like start with a character arc then another, or some other technique? Also you did an outline video recently about your very in-depth outlining method. Have you used this muli-arc outlining method for every book or is this more of a recent thing? Thank you!
So I do actually still miss things in my first draft. Just not as much as I used to such that I don’t have to rewrite like I used to. Mostly I end up having to add chapters or flesh out things better. Sometimes I cut things also. But basically first I reread the whole book and make notes. The notes are on everything. Plot, character, pacing all at once. Then I edit what I originally plotted to include the new content I feel needs to be added. So I essentially plan again. And make edit notes on existing chapters. Then I just go chapter by chapter making the edits I planned. And my outline method using Plottr is something I’ve used for my latest published book Tender Beasts, the upcoming A Mastery of Monsters and the sequel, and the He-Man IP project I did with Abrams Publishing. Also my adult WIP that’s currently on submission.
