This is exactly what I did, I should make a video about it too... I keep telling everyone that money is FREEDOM and the less bills you have to pay, the more freedom you have. Trying to pay a $5000/m mortgage will keep you as a slave to your job.
I heard an idea similar to yours. Think of purchases in terms of work hours. IPhone 10 isn't $900, it is x amount of weeks of work. I find that thought helps me lower my expenses.
Conservative Prosecutor True, I guess this is more of a specific situation that applies more towards being a slave to your job to pay giant bills that are unnecessary vs choosing to live frugally instead so you need to work less, and not stay at home moms. Everyone’s situation is a different story.
Everything you say about this subject is pure gold....I love that more people are seeing that being chained to a desk for forty years is not for them, I knew early on it wasn't for me, lowering that overhead, maximizing passive income and building side gigs that flourish into niches that you enjoy doing is the key....
@BeatTheBush, Love these FIRE videos; I stopped watching your channel regularly and am back now watching daily after these videos. Please keep making these retirement videos. Your voice and way of talking is so nice and people will love hearing the retirement stuff from you
You start writing your book man !! Good points and by watching your videos I acquired good credit and I’ve been saving a lot of money thanks man !!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Also for people who just not happy with their current job (those people only) and thinking about retiring because of that. My advise is that you should try getting a job / career that you like(try a few jobs, if you have to) you may end end with a good one. The job market is really good now!! Not every job is bad, a lot people love their job and enjoy going to work every single day. For instance, their jobs may involve helping other people, saving life, or improving the society.
watching your videos help me get my ass back in order whenever I get lazy building my stock photography portfolio. keep up the great work man and congrats on breaking free of the cycle
It's all about making passive income instead of working hourly. I would rather make $x a day doing nothing than spending time working on an hourly rate. I agree, recurring costs can quickly add up, biggest for me is phone data. Currently, I still work freelance coding a few hours a day, but I also have a small residual passive income and my goal is to move towards building more passive solutions.
One last thought, when putting your expense together, should think about or include the expense of your future family (girlfriend, kids and spouse) as well. It will easily double or triple your future expense (I know because I have a family, for instance health insurance is around $600 for a family), it is not that easy to double / triple your income in a month or year to cover those family expense. So don’t jump the gun too quick, think it through first.
I'm currently managing to save about £500 a month with spending money left over and after bills. But I'm now renting a smaller office for £100 a month hopefully as opposed to my current office for £180. I remember going from a £260 office down to the £180 office at my current office building and it was such a huge difference. Not having to fork out that extra £80 a month was such a good feeling
There is a big thrill that comes from making any amount of money outside of your main job. I really enjoy it, and I think it adds some security to your life. For thing I got was selling a website for a company.

I'm happy driving my 13 year old, 200k mile honda (bought new), and learning and having fun investing in stocks, mutual funds, ETFs, flipping items on Ebay, Rental property and LYFT when I'm going somewhere. I buy jeans and pants from Goodwill on Sat., and that is sometimes fun.
Have you ever considered drop shipping goods? It's something I'm currently looking into. I live in Florida where cost of living is pretty low so my goal is to semi retire off of 3,000 a month.
@@BeatTheBush well, that is the thing. I'm not really afraid of plunging into something new right now. Although I'm 40 now, I'm still in good health, decent savings, not at your level though. If you’re working in a career growth mode it isn’t just a straight trade of time for money - you’re increasing your value as you build your skills and network.
I thought freelance writers have a body of work that are moneymakers for them. Articles that publishers pay to feature but the writers always own it. Like seasonal articles, self-help or research articles which information rarely changes. I think this is a decent way to increase money, you already have the work done when the magazine asks for it.
Interesting that you mentioned that you aren't involved in real estate. The easiest way to make passive income so you can retire early is to rent out your spare rooms. In California a room can bring in $1000-$2000 per month. I knew a technician from Livermore Labs that got laid off. He used his severance money as down payment for a home, rented out all 4 bedrooms, then lived in half of his garage. The rent was more than enough to cover mortgage, and to travel or go back to school full time.

The whole RUclips business is interesting. Some people get very low subscribers and never get beyond a few hundred. Some get thousands and sometimes hundreds of thousands in a very short time. Even if the same value is given, the RUclips algorithm seems very inconsistent. I subscribed to this young woman who gives “new age” advice. She has gone from zero to 172,000 subscribers in six months. Others that give more practical advice such as yours seem to grow a bit slower but usually end up with similar amount of subscribers.
Wage slavery , if you walk around and just observe people on their jobs regardless of what they get paid they’re completely miserable. If anyone is interested I recommend reading How I found Freedom in a unfree world by Harry Browne. This book by far is one of the best book I’ve read about breaking away from the norms, if your thinking of quitting your 9 to 5 it’s best to have clarity and take inventory or introspection of your life first before leaving the work force, this book will give you some ideas on how you must psychologically prepare, and why most people will never achieve freedom.

I'm really lost on what business I'd want to start, maybe buy into a chain of businesses and run them? Say as an a fast food or some service, or take over existing ones?
One would have to refrain from dating, travel and never have children. The individual would have to live like an elderly person on a fixed income. The gamble is that after a certain age, an individual won't be able to get employed. So you are risking your prime years which you will never get back.
I cant get rid of audiobook, I see it as an investment in my mind. So it worth the $15 a month and also they have deals everyday...I use my cell phone to learn about thing when Im doing my work...So it offer more value then the cost. Im going to get rid of my cell phone and just call on wifi.

How to retire early:
1. Get a job and work until you have saved 100K
2. Invest 100k in the S&P 500
3. Move to India and live off 6-7k a year forever xD
I don't make a lot as is each year I have been working part-time and trying to move into a full-time. If we want to follow in your footsteps invest and buy real estate for businesses? I saw one couple who bought a warehouse area and just renovated to have 7 units or so to rent out.
@4,12, you should so offer a monthly patreon subscription.
I cant get rid of audiobook, I see it as an investment in my mind. So it worth the $15 a month and also they have deals everyday...I use my cell phone to learn about thing when Im doing my work...So it offer more value then the cost. Im going to get rid of my cell phone and just call on wifi.
The answer is, if you use it then it's fine to keep it. Probably a great way to learn as well.
one dollar saved is one dollar earned.
Staying away from subscriptions is a very smart move.
It doesn't seem like you're planning to get a family anytime soon, is that by conscious choice? I'm just asking since that can majorly impact the math
