Went to hairstylist yesterday and showed her a Pic of someone with this cut as an example of what I was going for, instead she gave me the triangle. Searched for shag curly diy and you came up, today I tried it and am never going back to stylist, came out great!! Thank you for exploring cutting your own hair and sharing it with us!! So simple and great results 👍👍
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! You literally saved my hair. I got a shag hair cut a week ago, and it wasn’t quite looking like the way I wanted it to look. Followed your tutorial to recut my hair on my own, and I absolutely LOVE IT. I’m in tears, I’m so happy. Thank you for allowing me to fully embrace my bouncy curls. I’m gonna follow this video for the rest of my life 😭❤️
WOW, this is amazing! Thanks for letting me know. It always fills my heart to know that people are taking control of their haircuts because of my videos. There are some fantastic hairdressers out there, but sometimes they just don't quite get what we want. I'm happy you can embrace your curls, a good haircut can be the key! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Very pretty! I have some waves/curls, but my hair is baby fine and thinning since I am 72. I did use a modified "wolf" "butterfly" type of cut, and I do very much like it. I am not using any leave in products. Just do a shampoo and conditioner and use the diffuser on the dryer or let it dry naturally. You are very blessed to have thick, curly hair! It's absolutely stunning!! Great video!
I tested your cut yesterday the result is just splendid !!! I have curly hair and it gave a very nice volume exactly what I wanted!!! thank youuuu and I subscribe!
I am half Lebanese and the texture and curl of my hair is so much like yours. I have been watching your videos over and over because you have achieved exactly the style I have been trying to get. I think my millenial hairdresser has NO appreciation or respect for the Iconic Shag of the 70' s. I used to cut my hair myself back when i was young and brave but i never had a plan (or sections). I just whacked and the texture of my hair was so forgiving. Are you a stylist? I wonder if i can take these videos to any skilled stylist with an open mind and duplicate this look.
I think you should be able to do anything, especially when you're paying someone to do your hair! It's always good to take reference photos. I trust absolutely no one to touch my hair, that's why I've been cutting it myself since I was about 16-17. I'm 30 now, so I've had many years to practice and get to know my hair. I'm surprised hairstylists can't achieve such a cut, because it's been very popular in the past 4 years. And it's not even complicated! 🙃 I hope you find someone who can do it, or try to do it yourself. I have some videos showing an even simpler way to achieve this cut.
Hey, I do have a hair wash routine uploaded here. But I can tell you, it's just shampoo + conditioner and a hair mask time to time. I don't use any styling products, only diffuse my hair. Super simple. 🙃
Hi! I don't think it will be similar, but layers work well with wavy/curly hair. Taking off volume can also help intensify the waviness of your hair. I'd give it a try, hair grows back, and waves/curls can hide mistakes very well. 😌😜
I'd love to try this as my long curly hair has never seen layers so it's all one length which sucks. If I want to keep the length how do I amend the cut? do I add an extra section at the back or?
Hi Alexander, I'd do it exactly how I've done it in the video. When I sectioned my hair, I separated the bottom layer I didn't want to touch, and started cutting the layer above it. So I kept the exact length I had before, but added layers. Just make sure that you cut less first, you can always go back and take more length off. Depending on how long your hair is, you might need to add 2-3 more sections in between the ones I created, just so the layers blend in nicely. I hope this helps, and your cut turns out nicely. ☺
Pretty much. However, I’d say cut less first, and keep the length of each section closer to each other. I am actually not sure if this cut would look good on straight hair, but if you have wavy hair with some body and volume, could look awesome with a simple blowout. 😚😚😚
I love the shag, but now I am trying to grow it until summer. It is best if I don't cut it until then 😀 But the good thing about the shag is, that it's pretty decent for almost 6 months. Even when it is grown out, it just looks like proper layers.

LOVE IT YOU LOOK SO FAB
So cute!
I have semi-wavy hair, will my hair look similar to yours? I've been thinking about cutting my hair.

Fantastic 🌟
Quedó buenisimo. Muchas gracias :)
Tengo 15 años y hoy me quiero hacer ese corte.
Will the process be much different on straight/wavy hair?
