Hello Tony. I had the realistic QTA 752 Quadraphonic Amplifier, which was also CD-4. Regrettably, some years ago, the rear channels died and I couldn't find anyone to fix them. I still have the 11 LP's which I bought in London, in the early 1970's. I think I still have the schematic for the 752, if that's likely to be of any use to you. Russ. UK.
I have a boatload of quad albums on discogs. I listened to them for a while with proper decoders, but decided to go back to stereo as I don't have the room for a proper quad setup. It was an amazing sound for sure.
I had one of these YEARS ago....! i recall only finding two record albums that were encoded is quad. one was a Santana album.... don't recall what the other one was. Moody Blues?
Part 2 would be fun to watch... I had the SQ system and still have some of the SQ records in my rack. Even saw a decoder for sale in my local area and have been tempted...???
So far I love it! I have one (count 'em) LP with 4-channel sound (an early pressing of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells). But I have never had an amp that would play it, or a turntable or cartridge for it. Don't know if the LP is CD 4 or not. Very interested in seeing how this goes!
I had an el-cheapo Quad SQ system back in the early 80s made by Who Knows ( Cant' recall the name tag now) and it was "okay" ( maybe a small step above a Sounddesign lmao). I only bought 3 or 4 quad albums. Quad sound was a novelty honestly, and not done well on most recordings. They used it to "ping pong" the sound from one speaker to the next a lot of the time for that "Golly Wow" response which got old after a while although I do recall a friend had an 8-Track Quad player in his car and listening to the Not Fragile album by Bachman Turner Overdrive was impressive, even more so when we smoked a certain substance which was a LOT when we went out driving in the country. Having 3 different types of encoding pretty much spelled the doom for having the public embrace it.
The only real downside of these is that Foster Electric (the vendor for this) put Matushita caps in their products. Every Realistic with slide controls and a few others always need a full recap. I had 2 mid-line Foster-built Realistic quads in my restoration stash, and that's a lot of work. I also have a STA-90.. same thing, Foster and full of those evil like leaky caps.
I have a Pioneer QC-800A quad preamp that I fixed. It is beautiful but it mostly collects dust. Don't know if I will ever build a quad system. I used it as a two channel preamp for a while until I got my Yamaha C-60 running.
"Can you see my meter? Good". Well, we all know it turned on :) The quadrophonic records from the 70s and 80s were really great. There were some re-releases in the 2000s for stuff from the 80s (Abba, Queen) but they were not great Then came the new age (2000) and it was mostly bad. Not bad music just bad mastering and seemed mostly like fake separation. From my collection, a few stood out: Pink Floyd, some Depeche Mode, Opeth, some Muse, even Bjork. Sadly, the surround format faded mostly away, just like consumer 3D movies. For modern enthusiasts, it is a bit tricky to get going but the free AC3filter on Windows allows a high level of adjustment and channel EQ/redirection. It might require some obsolete sound card but definitely worth it, if tou can find the music.
You needed a turntable that had special low capacitance cables and the Pioneer PL71 comes to mind. And a very high compliance cartridge. The Audio Technica AT20 with a Shibata stylus comes to mind. It had to have a frequency response to 40 kHz.
@puciohenzap891 Yes, it was. But it also made a very superior stylus for stereo playback. I felt that it tracked the inner grooves better than an elliptical.
I have the PL71 and a Philips GP422 and some Pioneer quad gear. Unfortunately a good stylus from Jico costs about 300 Euro, so I'll stick with stereo 😁
Imagine a database and AI that can invent circuits, you feed it datasheets of parts you want to use, the requested application and it churns out a circuit. NOW, that would've been epic!
Quadraphonic I thought and it really was a huge failure. You had to buy the things to even play and hear them for the time. And it was not cheap at the time to and there was not alot of albums that they made into Quadraphonic or albums that was really wanted that is lol.
Absolutely want to see a Part 2 to this one Tony :)
Bring on Part 2 Tony! These Quad units are always an adventure; one we don't often get to see. Thank you for your time.

How do i send you the schematic

I was looking at a CD-4 test record on Discogs just yesterday, and wondering what CD-4 exactly was.... And here we go! Yes to more on the subject.
Damn, from mini ref to a realistic quad, it's never boring at Xray Tony's place.
Looking forward to your next vid on this one 😀 thanks for the fun as always
CD4 - Imagine how much better it would be if we had four ears? 👂👂👂👂 Happy new ears!

OMG you are one lucky bloke, must break your heart that you can't play it in full ! I wish you luck my friend and a Happy New Year !
Yep, would love a Part 2, especially if you hook it up with a cd4 source and give us your impressions while you listen.

3 gang AM & nice 4 gang FM.
A rare Realistic Quad. Likely Hitachi built.
Please bring on part 2 Tony!
IIRC Sansui used the term "Quadphonic."
Part 2 Please and if necessary a Part 3……
Thank Tony…..

This was new for 1975 from radio shack. $599.95

Wasn't the Shibata profile actually invented for that purpose, of playing quadro?

We have a Sansui integrated amp and can you recommend someone who could repair it for us ?
ya part 2 😎💚💙👍👍🍺🍺🍻
Owned an 'STA-2100'.
I wonder what kind of cartridge and stylus it takes to support CD4? That's a tracking nightmare.
Shibata, no idea about the cartridges.
Maybe a microline/microridge or VdH/Geiger would work too?
Don't they have an AI that can scan a board and draw a schematic? Come on Google ;)
Imagine a database and AI that can invent circuits, you feed it datasheets of parts you want to use, the requested application and it churns out a circuit. NOW, that would've been epic!
it is top and botom view of the demodulator board and part of the schematic only
it has a part of the schematic, i hope it helps you
Is that what you want? I tried to send you a link to a 96mb PDF file, but it is removed :-(
I know. RUclips doesn't like links. It's irritating. 😞
@@xraytonyb I only "googled" realistic-QTA-770 schematic and got 47pages pdf and schematic.png ;-)
Popcorn and soda ;-)

Looks interesting. Let's keep going. Thanks!
