As much as the system failed by not giving him the opportunity, the fact that he was able to cheat his way through the education system and teach kids is a prime example that our system has a problem of people failing up in life.
I don’t understand how this video doesn’t have more views. The page has three million subscribers and the video is five years old. It’s also got a title that hooks you in.
A case study in privilege. Many of disadvantaged kids are diligent and work hard and yet don't end up millionaire with presidential appointments. If anything he highlights the fundamental problem with this system.

Not that my twin brother don't know how to read we were raised together but were both 19 I am in college and hisgrade 6, we tried every thing but can't read
I did. I mean i can read but not well. I have a BA because i took my time and can read aloud to myself or in my head. But if i was asked to read aloud to some one else i would panic inside because of past trauma of being laughed at.
Still read just to get better.
This is a great video and explains a lot! I work with adults who are college graduates that can’t read with comprehension and write well. They make mid to high six figures and have the reading and writing skills of maybe a 10 year old. I’m not exaggerating.
At first I thought it was laziness but have since discovered it’s their lack of knowledge and skill. I found this out when I just put my foot down and stopped doing their job. I would call out sick (which I’m doing now) or suddenly request leave just to uncover the truth. The individuals would either turn nothing in and miss the deadline or turn in something that was written as though by an elementary student. When I’d return to work after a day or two, they would beg me to complete their assignment and I would tell them I couldn’t because I just returned to work and have much catching up. These “professionals” in their fields of expertise would literally beg and plead with me and I’d finally ask them why they aren’t able to complete the assignment . . . and not having the time is BS. Most, not all, told me they were incapable or didn’t know how to complete writing: a Justification for other than Full and Open Competition (JOFOC); Tasks/Objectives for a Performance Work Statement (PWS), State of Objectives (SOO), or Statement of Work (SOW); technical evaluation; etc. Others would simply say I don’t have the time and tell me how it was my job. Although I didn’t want to, I eventually got my supervisor involved as clarification of my job responsibilities. My supervisor quickly told them it was not.
The documentation I receive is truly embarrassing and quite honestly distressing. But at the same time it angers me to know that people are grossly lying on their resumes and interviews.

You think this can’t be until you experience it. I left a note for someone with a master’s degree who couldn’t read it- I had written in cursive. Couldn’t read cursive- but held a master’s !
It takes more brain power to pull this off than actually doing the same in a legit way
My spelling is fairly bad. I just been working around it all my life. ALL of my Ex’s have made fun of me ..during the brake up for it.

As cute as this story is, it`s actually a disgrace. He cheated all the way through his schools. He had lots of help from friends to do this - did he bully them into helping him? He looks the type and admits to being a bad type of kid over turning his desk, etc. If kids are to be forced to go to school, the one thing they deserve is a competent teacher. The fact that the school was oblivious to having an illiterate teacher on the pay role is staggering. What did he teach - finger painting? It`s such a betrayal to the students and their parents who deserved so much more. I`m at a loss to understand how he actually got off with all of this. How could he get an education degree? It must have been the easiest bloody degree going. For my bachelors of engineering degree with honors, every piece of work (which was done on word, including all equations) was scrutinized by my teachers and marks were stripped away in the most strict fashion. Not to mention plagerizing software was used to expose any copy/paste type cheating. Project work with 6000 word reports, etc were normal. Every page was full of new maths and physics equations, which had to be mastered and remembered before moving onto the next section. There is no way you could cheat on my degree, far too much work in it. It must have been a very lax environment at all of his schools. I`m glad he earned a good wage all these years doing something he had no buisiness doing. Not to mention usurping another good teacher from that job as a teacher. And if anyone says - oh, reading and writing is just a small part of teaching - it`s not. In my primary school, about 90% of work was copying stuff from the board, writing essays, writing projects, doing work sheets in English, Maths, History, Geography etc which needed to be read and marked by the "teacher"! Merely talking Sociology to the class would not go very far in my book. Anyway, that`s my opinion.

People don’t realize this until later in life but your only cheating yourself. I know this is cliche to say but it’s true.
He's obviously exaggerating. He read at a 2nd grade level, yes, but he had the VOCABULARY of maybe an 8th - 12th grader! Many low income people have 8th+ grade vocabulary and still are able to work effectively.
And I am sure he made plenty of money doing it.

Absolutely. And he probably beat out a legit candidate for his position who could read and teach very well. To me this is just the same old bs that has been going on for decades.
