Of course the duopoly wants to prevent competition

And just how does it prevent competition? Having separated party ballots at the primaries absolutely guarantees fair elections because no party gets bullied out by never-ending one-party domination as all intelligent voters know the tyrants will do.

As an unaffiliated voter, I'm all in favor of this ranked voting concept.

RCV would have a better chance of passing without the open primary

When you say, “Colorado’s political parties came out against RCV,” did you just conveniently forget that there are more than just 2 political parties in Colorado?
I’m sure that the Green Party of Colorado did not come out against RCV.
I have my doubts that the Libertarian party of Colorado came out against RCV.
Language counts, and inclusive language is also pertinent in this situation.

I am all in for ranked choice voting having participated in that for years in Oakland, CA. It's the elimination of primaries that I am concerned about though. Have to do more research but CA which is one of the most inclusive states has this:" The Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act, which took effect January 1, 2011, requires that all candidates for a voter-nominated office be listed on the same ballot. Previously known as partisan offices, voter-nominated offices are state legislative offices, U.S. congressional offices, and state constitutional offices. Only the two candidates receiving the most votes-regardless of party preference-move on to the general election regardless of vote totals."

Why? So Demorats can keep stealing the elections and denying any other parties than themselves? It's pure corruption.

@karenhester6174 yeah.....look at California for examples of failure....NOT SUCCESS.

    Yay for ranked choice voting.
How does open primaries prevent greens from showing up on the ballot?

Give me a break. You absolutely know in this state we would never see another candidate than all Demorat ticket again with this ranked voting junk. It's just another means of stealing elections by tyrants.

Well, if they keep backing people like Jill Stein, it's of their own making. A real Green party might have a chance.

Nope. This does not accept your choice, but defies the single vote.

    Vote NO on Proposition 131
Putting more names on the ballot does not mean that we will get better candidates.
The Open Primary will likely eliminate the minor political parties will never get onto the General Election ballot. So the actual choices on the General Election ballot will be just the same as what we get now.
Don't make a mess of our elections.

Third parties never win in general elections anyways so why does it matter? Besides, IF a third party candidate is actually good enough to convince people to vote for them in the primary election, then they might actually have a chance at winning. Under the current system either a Republican or Democrat will win. And a partisan at that. Open primary+RCV means third parties actually have a chance by forcing people to vote for the person, not the party.

A third party under ranked choice actually has a much better chance of getting elected. The current system actually guarantees that two parties stay in power. Look it up, there is real math behind this.
