Magic retired at age 32 and only played 13 seasons and went to 9 finals. His last season he was 2nd in MVP voting and led his team to the finals. He had a lot of basketball left in him. With his game he could've easily played until 40. He would've had more rings for sure and his all time assist record would have never been caught. 5× NBA champion (1980, 1982, 1985, 1987-1988) 3× NBA Finals MVP (1980, 1982, 1987) 3× NBA Most Valuable Player (1987, 1989-1990) 12x NBA All-Star (1980, 1982-1992) 2× NBA All-Star Game MVP (1990, 1992) 9× All-NBA First Team (1983-1991) AIl-NBA Second Team (1982) NBA All-Rookie First Team (1980) 4× NBA assists leader (1983-1984, 1986-1987) 2× NBA steals leader (1981-1982) All time NBA assist per game leader Retired as all time assist and steals leader 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
I think Magic is the best of all time. He nearly avg. a triple-double, and even played center and still scored 42 points with 15 boards. If Lebron or Jordan only scored 10 points, you would likely think their team was going to lose the game, Magic brought something different though to the game, the court was a chess board and he knew where every piece was - he made the entire team better with his style of play. He could have an off night and only score only 10 points but the Lakers were dangerous because their best player didn't have to score 40 - 50 points to win. That's what made him special.
Love that era of basketball! Magic and Bird really did save the league. Dr. J opened the door and the carried the torch hard. Jordan of course blew the roof off.
Highlights do Magic and Bird no justice. You gotta go back and watch WHOLE games. These dudes took over games. Magic with his passing, Bird with his movement without the ball, clutch shots and slick defense. Neither was the greatest in athletic ability, but their willingness to give EVERYTHING to win gave them a HUGE advantage over anyone.... in ANY era.
Number 50 rockets was Ralph Sampson, he was 7'4 am was a really good player his potential was cut short by injuries. He's compared to wembanyama they have similar style of game even from back then
Voyager is sweet. What's wild about Jordan is every night was a highlight tape for that guy. If you watched the Ultimate Bulls Mixtape, Voyager, and The Last Dance, it would still be only a fraction of Jordan highlights. He played all 82 games 9 times and was still putting on a show in the last game of the season like it was the NBA Finals. You didn't load manage MJ, you just let him loose until all his enemies were vanquished.
Wait till you watch the 1992 Olympic Dream Team. Magic, Bird, Jordan, Barkley, Ewing, Stockton, Malone, and more playing together on the same team as an unstoppable force! Best basketball team ever!
If we gonna be real, Magic is not only the GOAT Point Guard, he's Top 5 All Time, I personally have him at #4 All time, and if I'm honest, its drives me nuts when ESPN and others start asking if Curry is better than Magic Johnson. He's not. Magic won the Finals and the Finals MVP as a rookie. As...a...rookie. 5 Championships despite having to retire early.
I have him 4th as well, but let's shine some context, he was drafted to a team with another top 5 all time player, Kareem. Aging version or not having that high of an all-time ranked player on your team, along with getting Worthy on the team, vastly improves your ability to win a lot in a short amount of time.
@@michaelinkpen4188 Yea, but people were drafted to teams with Lebron already on them, and Jordan already on them, and Kobe already on them, and none of them won Finals MVP as a rookie. Its a feat that will never be repeated.
@@jackastor5265, none of the players drafted to those teams were top 10 draft picks (like Magic was) let alone top 10 all-time talents. Kobe isn't a good example, he was the Magic to Shaq's Kareem.
@@michaelinkpen4188 I don't care what examples you want to pinpoint. A rookie point guard winning Finals MVP is outrageous and will never happen again.
@@jackastor5265, anything can happen. The events that lead up to Magic winning FMVP as rookie, while based a lot on Magic's talent, is also very luck based. 1rst, Magic as a top 10 all-time talent got drafted to a team with a top 10 all-time talent Kareem. Every single team in NBA history, except them and maybe Wilt's teams, who had a top 10 all time talent were never in a position to draft a top 10 draft pick. 2nd, If Kareem doesn't get injured Kareem wins FMVP. Kareem outpreformed, (Kareem's avg until his injury 33.4ppg, 13.3rbs, 3.2ast.), Magic in every game except one. Magic won the FMVP because he was avg a near triple double 21.5ppg, 11.1rbs, 9.0ast and because he replace Kareem at center for the final GAME and put up an historic stat line of 42pts, 15rbs, and 7ast, sealing the defeat of the Sixers. Though Magic might of still lost the game if he didn't get immense help from Jamaal Wilks who also put up an historic stat line of 37pts, 10rbs, 2ast.
Its a travesty that Tom Chambers is not in the Hall of Fame. He averaged 18/6/2 and I believe is the only player in history with 20,000+ career points not in the Hall of Fame. He must have made the wrong people mad about something. Shawn Kemp was the "Reign Man", unbelievably athletic around the rim. He and Gary Payton would have won a ring if not for Michael Jordan stopping them.
HE COULDA PLAYED ( 20 ) YEARS😊 IN THE KINDA SHAPE HE WAS IN SO, WE LOST OUT ON 8 YEARS MOST LIKELY! 😮☹IT WAS PRETTY SAD BUT FROM ( 79-91 ) FOR GODSAKES, YIKESSSSS! 9 FINALS IN 12 YEARS AND THAT WAS JUST ONE THING! G.O.A.T
I seen one dude after the other jump up to the rafters and dunk all kinds of ways. I never seen a guy pass and run a break like Magic. 6'9" with handles, spinning, behind the back, looking one way, passing somewhere else. No one but him new if he was going to pass it, fake it, take it, or whatever. I know this is his highlights, but there's videos of him making plays like these for days. Watching him back in the day he did it nightly, multiple times. The game was different in that teams worked for a shot and the three wasn't as emphasized, it was seen as a lower percentage shot. It was a thing--but not like now. That was just the thought at the time. Jordan's midrange shot and drives was perfect for the era. The years where they beat the Blazers and Jazz they incorporated a lot of threes in there offense with specialists like Paxton, Kukoc, Kerr, Hodges... Jordan worked on his 3 and Pippen could hit. Why the history lesson? Cuz Bird and Magic actually came in towards the end of the 70's when you could count "straight to the NBA" players on one hand. There were no one-and-done's at college. The players weren't as jacked as now because of sports medicine, work out advances, etc., but the game was brutal because they fought for the high percentage 2. That's why the back-to-the-basket greats ruled... Russel, Chamberlain, Moses Malone, Kareem, pre-injury Walton, Elvin Hayes, Nate Thurmond, others. So Magic and Bird were transition players--transitional for the game in an evolutionary way, taking bigger players into other roles they didn't typically have in a classic low post / ball-handler way to create mismatches.
Actually it was Pippen who could guard Magic. One of the few. Maybe the only one. I loved watching Magic when I was young.. Magic was def one of the GOATs. KD and Giannis are my faves now.
I appreciate the video watching magic again but you got to get to Larry Bird ultimate mixtape and a Larry Bird re-edit version of passes. You will get a bunch of views and likes and you will not be disappointed.
Magic would probably be the GOAT if it wasn't for the disease (although I still think MJ had greater natural ability). And he beat the disease despite not being a known cure (well there still isn't), shows what a champ he was
He was a basketball genius and the GOAT.

BUT MICHAEL DID SWEEP MAGIC😮 IN THE ( 91 ) FINALS, THAT WAS MICHAELS VERY 1ST TITLE AND THAT'S WHEN MAGIC PASSED THE TORCH 👍
80s and 90s hoops was like no other era...... it was still about team
NOWWWW WE'RE TALKING THE REALLLLL G.O.A.T!!! 😊 THE MAGIC MANNNNNN!👍 50 WAS SAMPSON, ROCKETS HAD THE TWIN TOWERS ( HAKEEM OLAJAWAN & RALPH SAMPSON )
The GOAT of point guards

No 50 for the Houston Rockets was Ralph Sampson, 7'4....he was part of the "twin towers" with Hakeem
50 is Ralph Sampson 7'4 part of Houston "Twin towers" with Hakeem
Magic is definitely the GOAT of point guards.
The Showtime Lakers was fun to watch.

Magic's passing was so good that is was not fundamental basketball, but it should be. He basically broke the game.
Magic is in my top 5 all time, and he is my starting point guard in my all time starting five:
SG: MJ
PG: Magic
C: Wilt
SF: Larry
PF: Duncan
Magic, MJ, Shaq, Bron, Duncan

Not really Larry Bird is slightly taller than Magic and Johnson is 6'9'' so Bird is maybe around 6'10"
Nah...Larry is 6'9" as well...his hair is what made him look taller
