I find it very refreshing that every official music video they’ve put out has a theme completely different from anything previous. The easy route would be to go back to the well again but they’ve never taken the easy route. They purposely surround themselves with people who can help cultivate the girls creativity. Six Feet Deep is definitely an award worthy work of art. The entire Keep Me Fed album is a next level effort that should propel them into the mainstream.
Thanks Nena for all the work and careful thought you put into your TW videos!

This video is brilliant. I think that the threats to the girls by the entity were very personal. Pau"s drums were smashed and she was told to shut up. She was an ADHD kid, talked alot and was told to be quiet by outsiders. Imagine if she had. Ale was shy and she felt secure and powerful behind her bass. Taking that away could have destroyed her. Dany suffered from writers block and questioned her abilities. U CAN'T came from the inside. I believe that these are the personal demons they have exorcised. These three confident, professional, powerful women are who they are today by not giving in. They are my favorite band, not only because of the music, but because of who they are.

I love your analysis of this one. It's such a good deep dive. Regarding the chains: I'd note that it's their *instruments* that are chained to the floor, not *them.* My interpretation of that is that they're preventing the instruments from being *taken away* (as they were in the flashback scenes). So, I interpreted the chains as a *positive,* rather than as a negative :)

There are so many things I hadn't even noticed in the video. It is so Cool to see how something small and almost hidden can be a symbol of something bigger.

Glad to see you reacting to this, in depth! I think the circle of candles was signifying a seance to draw the entity out where they could destroy/bury it, for good. Remember, later on in the video, that's the exact spot that the entity, now confused, and covered in their childhood articles, is drawn into it's permanent grave while stripping off their memories, and sticking them to the ceiling for later use.😉 Just my 2 cents..
The amount of effort and thought that went into this video is astonishing, and like you mentioned, it is rife with 'Easter eggs', even a couple from other videos (i.e. the blue roses from Que mas Quieres at 9:02). For a second around 9:16 you can see the handwritten lyrics were actually for 'Six Feet Deep'. I'm still kicking around ideas for what is the meaning behind their invisibility at the end, and the cracking mirror, etc. Knowing them, they'll probably keep us hanging like they did with the contents of the 'box' at the end of Que mas Quieres!😂😍👍👍👍

    Hi Nena.
    This is my interpretation…
In this thrilling music video, Dany, Pau, and Ale become ghostly apparitions haunting a hater who has tried to sabotage their musical dreams since childhood. The hater performs a witchcraft ritual, writing "DREAM" on the carpet surrounded by candles, hoping to destroy the band's success. However, the tables turn as the band emerges as powerful spirits, confronting their bully with supernatural strength. The video combines intense visuals, a powerful narrative of revenge, and empowerment, showing that true dreams can never be crushed. The Warning’s music and resilience shine through as they triumph over negativity and continue to pursue their passions. 🌟👻🎸

First of all, thank you for the deep dive into this video! I listen to a lot of rock and metal bands and The Warning have become one of my favorites as of late. What really stood out for me is when you pointed out that the outfits the girls are wearing as their younger selves were the ones they wore on the Ellen Show many years ago. The Warning are masters of song dynamics and the interplay of quiet spaces and loud rocking out moments and they pull it off effortlessly. Their videos are really cool interpretations of their creativity and Six Feet Deep is no exception. The detractors of their early years and the self-doubt they may have felt are huge catalysts in this video. The trajectory of this band has been straight up, especially with the release of KMF this year. 2024 is their breakout year and all that hard work and sacrifice is starting to pay off. I completely agree with you about them winning a VMA with this video, it is that good.

Brilliant analysis. I share your assessment that it represents, in part, the putting rest of their own self doubts. Likewise, I think you’re right that they are drawing a line in the sand to say we are adults now, not children and we want to be free to address adult topics that concern us now. If someone asked me to come up with an adjective to describe them as artists, “intentional” would be one of the first things to come to mind. The choice of the lyric “greedy little fucker” was not accidental IMO, but another deliberate symbolic choice on their part.

Outstanding reaction. I think you nailed it entirely. When the album first came out, I suggested that it was a loosely another concept album which gave me some push back from a few TWA members. However I think it is in the context of being an autobiographical expression which are the points you highlighted without coming out and giving it that overall theme but containing the sub-themed elements you detailed. Six Feet Deep, Sharks, and HYCAD definitely have tie-ins with each each other with the lyrics and video. One other interpretation at the end where their reflection doesn’t show in the mirror could also be that they have yet to be recognized as a band as a whole yet their music, symbolized by their instruments in the reflection, is now getting noticed. That may be a very deep interpretation but certainly it applies to their latest exposure that we’ve seen through their interviews, awards, commercials, sponsorship, and satellite radio, multiple national cable & network TV appearances. I would love to hear your lyrical analysis as well next. ⚠️⚡️⚡️⚡️

    • @psychologyofrock
      @psychologyofrock  2 месяца назад +3

I really tend agree with you. While they perhaps did not set out to write a concept album, we see a lot of themes come up repeatedly in this album - clearly the things that they are dealing with (or working through) in the present moment. Despite some people saying that this album is lyrically inferior to previous albums, I disagree. Maybe they are using words that are more simple or direct, but they are describing very profound experiences and deep subject matter. I like your interpretation of the lack of reflection in the mirror! Lots to think about!

    • @lobodanx3
      @lobodanx3 2 месяца назад

@@psychologyofrock Pau actually said in one interview that lyrically they chose to be more direct. That they normally are very metaphorical in their expressions but just like with the change in sound, they wanted to be more straightforward. As usual The Warning stays unpredictable enticing each time as to what’s next. It’s quite ingenious even more so if it’s by design which I personally think it is. Just another Beatle-like quality of presentation of songwriting styles of variation.

Great analysis once again, Nina. I think the message here is defeating the nay sayers from their past and perhaps even from present day as they are poised to be recognized as a household name. The nods to classic 80s horror films is a really fun way to tell this story or present these themes. The ending mirror shot to me is a nod to the Sixth Sense film, continuing the horror genre with a final message to the nay sayers that they will continue to haunt them through the rest of their career as a band, that nothing can or will get their way moving forward. The chains are saying that they aren't going to let their career be taken away or shaped by anyone.

"One" of my views of the video, of which there are many as you say open to interpretation, is that the actual girls never enter the house.
They've somehow set a trap (the dream rug) to entice the entity and end their struggle with their past forever and move forward.
In the first shot they're viewing the entire event from afar. Outside the house. If you look at the shelf where the SFD video is placed, there's 3 more videos with it.
Alfred Hitchcock's (Rear Window) which is a classic story of a man recording a murder from afar, on his camera from an adjacent apartment.
There's also (The Manchurian Candidate) which I'm not sure how it relates to the story? Some kind of preordained cause and effect thingy.
There's also a hand written video entitled (6 Anos) which could be the video of Ale, or one of the girls playing piano when she was 6 years old?
The opening scene is from the POV of the entity. He sees the girls' picture on the wall in their youth and is enraged (the growl) which draws him further into the house, then the music starts to pull him deeper into the house and eventually into the room where the dream rug is. He's covering his ears in the infrared cam showing his distain for their music. The girls' equipment is chained down just in case their whole plan to bury the entity goes sideways. He moves to the rug to stamp out their dreams and, well, we know what happens next. Before they close him in, they strip all their dreams and memories from him to take ownership of their childhood back.
I think as you said the final mirror scene is just a twist (as in Q+Q) just to leave the story open for interpretation and leave us wanting a Part Deux.
However we personally interpret the story, is exactly what TW have always done with their videos and songs. They enjoy seeing all our reactions as I've enjoyed yours.
It's always fun watching your psychological analysis....:)

Great Analysis as always, love it!! here is some thoughts of mine, the easter egg in danny's desk, cupcake = donuts, and the bride doll ref to "Que más quieres".- The chains i've seen it in two ways, as how music is what keeps them grounded to earth and to not let the evil take it away from them never ever. The toys and objets as a good memories of their childhood subtracting energy to diminish or make weak to this negative entity, and finally, i've think that the ghosts at the end are not only to show to the little DPA what they can achieve and become if persist with their dreams, if not at the same time, are the future selfs protecting and healing theirs inner childs from all that what they have to do and overcome all this time. :)

To me their instruments being chained to the floor means that they are preventing them from being taken by the entity as it always tried to destroy them. As for for the meaning of them being invisible on the mirror, to me it means that they are not real in that particular time lapse, maybe because they are ghosts or maybe they are their future selves being called by their younger selves to defeat the beast that has been haunting them. Maybe young DPA called their future selves using this spell we see at the beginning of the video with the “DREAM” conjuring on the floor.

Now to something that's been slowly cooking up in my intuitive mind over quite a few analyses and really popped up with this one : Starting with this video, you've mentionned the girls said that the song is about dealing with other peoples god complexes, which it is on the surface level. I watched the lyric video first and already got the feeling that there was a second hidden and much deeper meaning that was much more personal to them. The meaning I felt (and I'm pretty sure it was the one they put in the song, not one I projected onto it) was about them overcoming criticism about themselves and the people who didn't believe they would succeed (and maybe self doubt too). So the music video wasn't that much of a surprise or disconnect to me as I already had that meaning in mind, so it was more of a confirmation.
I got that feeling of discrepancy between the meaning they told in interviews and the one I felt (which was mostly about the same you felt and mentionned in the analysis) on many of their songs.
Coming to the point I want to make : I got the feeling or suspiscion that they don't tell the real meaning of their songs in interviews and going even further, that they craft their songs in a way so they have a surface level meaning (they can tell) that hides the personal meaning it has to themselves. I don't mean that in a way of accusing them of malicious intent, but rather think it's a creative choice to give their work more layers, or most probably to limit giving away their inner world only to the people who can really get them (thus, as a side effect, leaving out the critics and disbelievers).
What is your opinion on that ?

Hey Denis! You never know - anything is possible :) It could be self-protective, but I think sometimes also that words come onto the page that only later we truly know the depth of. That is one of the reasons that journaling can be so therapeutic! There are definitely layers of meanings in their songs!

    • @DenisDolisy

@@psychologyofrock Hey Nena ! That's a great point you made, thank you ! I didn't think about it in that way.
It totally makes sense that they initially wrote the song about peoples god complexes and only subconsciously added that second layer of personal meaning, that they only realized later and then turned into the video.
Now I'm wondering if the whole Idea for the song may have been subconsciously triggered by the need to express that personal meaning. Do you think it makes sense from a psychological point of view ?
As two of them are intuitive dominants (and Dany seems to be pretty high on intuition too even though she's an ESFJ), I could see that being the case, escially when comparing it to myself, as I often intuitively do or say things that make no sense to me in the moment but prove to be the right thing in the long run (you just made me realize that about myself through your answer, so thank you!)
Yes, journaling can be very therapeutic, but for some reason I don't feel attracted to it although I know I should probably do it.

Love your analyses of videos by The Warning - the most intriguing on RUclips IMHO! One surprise for me in this video was that the camcorder isn't Petunia, which is a JVC hybrid, or even a clone. It's just a big old clunky VHS, a la Poltergeist. The end has everyone wondering, of course. My theory is that the house itself is part of the phantom representation of their past, and that their adult selves were never physically there at all, although their younger selves were. The address is 0628, which is not just the release date of KMF, it's also an impossible house number, as house numbers don't start with 0. They're outside this house at the beginning looking at the entity through the window, but how and when did they get in? Might they only be there "in spirit?" Are the instruments chained to the floor, perhaps "in position," so their spirits can play them? And are the instruments also symbols of the past? We have the guitar Lzzy Hale gave Dany (not the one she plays on this song, according to a guitar player I know), Ale's original Ale's Inferno, and a DW drum kit without a logo. In the end, could it be that we don't see them in the mirror because they're not really there? All the things we do see are phantoms of the past. Oh, one more thing. Although it confuses some people, I think it's really creative that all the story-telling music videos from KMF depict something to do with the title of the song but nothing to do with the original intent of the lyrics. Two stories for the price of one!

    • @psychologyofrock
      @psychologyofrock  2 месяца назад

That means a lot, thank you so much! I guess Petunia wouldn't theme with the retro aesthetic :) I completely agree with you that the recent videos have all strayed from the lyrics yet have successfully told a new story. THAT is artistry! :)

As such, like many other members of TWA, I feel protective of them, but it's time for us all to accept that they are adults now and their music is going to reflect that. I love their new music and feel that "Keep Me Fed" is a strong contender for Rock Album Of The Year. I look forward to where they go from here. Those of us who have girls knew that it had to come and looked forward to seeing them grow up. There are so many possible messages in this video but to me the most important is that the past is to be remembered but can not be changed, your childhood may be gone but the memories remain. The future is invisible but you are still in charge.

It’s taken me a long while to be fully analytical about this song, in the end I can only really come up with one conclusion!
This to me is an up to date follow up to Narcissista, it’s saying that we have now proved that you were wrong to criticise us but still refuse to admit it so we are no longer bothered about it, we’ve buried your criticisms 6 feet deep! Do what you please we don’t care anymore.
It’s a brilliant creation of what they wanted to portray, and the last bit where they’re not there to me says that really they didn’t care all along, but this is so that you know that we don’t care beyond any doubt.
As always there are lots of possible interpretations and lots of Easter eggs but I don’t see much point in adding anything further that you already know! 🌹

I agree with your analysis. On the one hand, Pau said in an interview that sometimes she takes music very seriously and there are things that are just for fun. On the other hand, many of her songs have a deep message and people have written to thank her. So, there are things that are in the video for an artistic-aesthetic reason, but there are also elements that are present because they have a meaning. The album as a whole marks a new stage where they are no longer the girls and their fans have to wait for a change (some of that began, I think, with how they performed at the MTV VM Awards). The video definitely includes the haters and people who didn't believe in them, but now they are not affected by it, it is buried. Lzzy Halestorm definitely has an influence on them (who started with the band at 13 years old). Regarding the candles, since they have a Christian background, I think they represent people who protected them and believed in them and gave them light in the midst of the criticism they received.

Their appearance on Ellen was certainly an important milestone. If we were considering an event such as this in a work of fiction it could represent their conscious choice to become professional musicians. Perhaps it really did solidify the reality of that choice to themselves.
However, they were already working toward that goal well before being invited to the Ellen Show, even before their home-made Enter Sandman Video. There were multiple steps along the way. They (including their father Luis on behalf of the band) had been uploading videos to RUclips. After Enter Sandman went viral they began getting offers from music industry professionals. The girls were writing their first original songs, and their EP "Escape the Mind" was released on iTunes in the week before they were on the Ellen Show. That release was rushed in order to take advantage of their TV appearance, as they had 5 complete songs recorded and intended to include a few more. River's Soul and Exterminated were left out but later made it onto their first full album as live tracks.
I will point out that in interviews the girls have given a slightly different timeline. I believe that is just an error from trying to remember things that happened 10+ years ago. But in many instances we do have the dates that these events occurred.

They've grown up and moved on. So has their music. And so should the fans who seem to want to keep them preserved in aspic. KMF is their first properly adult album. They're only getting better and better as they mature. Just imagine how they will sound for their next album in another couple of years!

As for the cracked mirror, I think that the more successful they are, the more they feel the trappings of being “public” celebrities, and how fans assign to them rock star personalities that align with our ideas what rock stars are supposed to be like. I feel like mirror image reflects Only their instruments as a statement that our image of them goes only as deep as our knowledge of their artistic lives, and that they remain fiercely private as to who they really are in their private moments, so our image of them goes only as deep as their artistic public personas. So the cracking may represent how difficult it is to maintain their privacy in their private normal lives away from fame.

Great analysis. You connect a lot of the dots that tend to fly by too fast and we don’t stop to think about. Most art, whatever the medium, has multiple meanings at the same time, not necessarily contradictory, that give it depth. Your example of the Rush video being completely stupid is dead on. There is a local garage band (1990s) that had a song that is such a fantastic 3minute song, could have been an all time classic if it had come out in 1978. Then they made a video. It was the stupidest waste of time. Complete junk. It poisoned the song. Anyway, I think this video is a work of art and as we’ve seen in several dozen reactions to date, few if any will pick up any of these meanings underlying it. But that’s ok, it can serve as just a wild homage to retro horror movies as well. The new album is a significant milestone in that they are signifying breaking from the past and their old selves, but the great thing is they are still the wonderful thoughtful articulate people they always were. They are at the age when people, all of us, experience major life transitions and it looks so far that they are going to handle it better than the majority of people that grew up in the public eye. Thanks for another thoughtful analysis.

I agree about multiple meanings, and layers of meanings. I love this video because it is personal and even somewhat vulnerable. It was brave to allude to some of these themes, and they did so intentionally and brilliantly. I like your statement of some videos "poisoning" a song. That has happened many times for me...NEVER with The Warning. The Time Stands Still video is a tragedy, lol! Who came up with that concept and who gave it the go ahead? Lol. @@psychologyofrock their videos are always events even when they are just for fun, like burnout. Pau mentioned recently about people that take rock too seriously. I’m unapologetically one of those and don’t believe it for a moment that she isn’t also. You don’t create things so full of meaning and intelligence if you don’t take it seriously. But I totally get what she meant by that. Obviously you take it seriously too. We can be serious and have fun at the same time. Too many artists turn over parts of their creative process to others and it never does a lot for them. Rush were three of the smartest guys in the business, they should have known better on that one. My take on the chained down instruments is that it's a way to show the naysayers, and their own negative inner voices, the entity, that noone will be able to take their instruments, and their dream away from them, like the entity tried to do in the beginning of the video. The entity lifted up, and destroyed Pau's drums, and Ale's bass, but now it can't, because the instruments are chained to the floor. The candles surrounding the word "dream" are there to protect their dream from the entity, I think. Since nothing in the lyrics, or the rest of the video, has anything to do with vampires, the whole thing screams poltergeist, I'd guess that the reason that they're invisible in the mirror, is not because they're vampires, but rather ghosts. And speaking of the entity, when it gets covered with all the toys and stuff, it kinda reminds me of the bloaters from The Last of Us 😆Not sure why though, maybe it's because of the size and overall shape of it, and the jerky movements. A cool little fact, which in a way connects The Warning to The Last of Us, is that the guy who composed the music for the game, Gustavo Santaolalla, is from Mexico, just like our favorite power trio.

@@psychologyofrock My pleasure! I love your videos on The Warning, and your thoughts and insights. If Pascal has any thoughts, it would surprise me if they're that great, Pascal is the fluffy guy on my profile pic 😸But what do I know, maybe he is the Einstein of cats.

@@psychologyofrock Haha, no worries, you didn't know 😁Me too, I have had cats since I was little. Pascal and his buddy Maurice live with my parents, while I am entertained and terrorized by my own kittens Mayu and Akira. Have you seen any of the recent after movies from The Warning? They uploaded one from Japan the other day, it's short but very sweet. I think it's one reason why they are so loved, they are approachable and relatable, their after movies are like fun family trips, and we get to come along.

That’s great! 😻 And yes, I think I’ve seen all the aftermovies :-) it’s amazing that they take the time to document everything so that they can share it with their fans who are like a family. Just incredible women all around!
