- Steve Dangle shares yet another example of one of the worst plays in NHL history, the play that forced the league to implement the offside review. The infamous Matt Duchene off-side goal.

1st: “He shoots...HE SCOOORES, WHAT A PLAY!!!”
2nd: “Mich...”
1st: “...WHAT A PLAY ON NASHVILLE, HE’S SCREAMING THAT THIS SHOULD NOT COUNT!”
2nd: “Michael”
1st: “DOES IT PETER?”
2nd: “Michael, it was so far offside it’s unbelievable”
Do you think he apologized to the preds after signing with them
NOW LISTEN HERE MICHAEL SCOTT!
Michael the announcer must feel so dumb after his bus Peter told him that
The fact that you found a way to stretch this video to 14 minutes is mind blowing
Kyle Grimard I know
It was mind bending because of the parallel universe thing.
Dangle in a Preds jersey?????
He finally got over the 9-2 loss that NASHVILLE won
He didn't get over it. He just made peace with the fact that the Leafs will never win the Cup and is now a supporter of the Preds.
@@jorssu13 Also I think he suffered a much bigger pain.
1:29
"The linesman, I believe, got screened"
What he was really trying to say :
"The linesman, I HOPE, got screened"
And if you rewatch it, there is a linesman skating backwards looking directly at the play
Had the Avs not scored that goal, creating offside review, they might have won the playoff series against the sharks
john smith Very ironically ...
and in that playoff series, WE WEREN'T OFFSIDE!!!
@@hailmary7283 Damn, I guess we confused a linesman for Gabe Landeskog standing in the zone offsides
Michael Talley Oh yes, that bugs me. "offside" by the letter of the law, but obviously, practically speaking he had no part of the play. One of those "wellll ... technically ... I guess" calls where the guy was no part of the play. Quite unfortunate.
@@kylexinye1990 Same thing happened in game 1 of the Isles-Pens series that year. 28, or so, seconds in, Tom Kuhnhackl sniped Matt Murray but it was called back because Matt Martin, who was heading to the bench, was too slow to exit the zone.
Dang it idea: Montreal leaving Patrick Roy our to dry causing him to request a trade.
He took your idea, but didn't give a heart. Fail
He had to look over both shoulders to find the damn thing behind him.
I like that duchene is like “ok I guess we’re doing this now” bc he knew he was offside
Okay how about a breakdown of the 2004 Ottawa / Philly brawl and the events that led up to it?
My reaction to this series as an Avs fan: Statue of Liberty “ew, skip.” This one “Yeah, okay, fair. I’ll watch this.”
Well, I guess we can call last year's "offsides" against the Sharks karma for this.
That is so true!
Was thinking the same thing.
One instance of BS never offsets another instance of BS. It just leaves the NHL with two BS plays.
@@DDWyss well, you aren't wrong
The best part of this dang-it is that the home-team announcers for the Avs were confused at why it wasn't called offside. You can hear in their voices they're trying their hardest to figure out if they can even celebrate such a ridiculous goal.
"This was about a kilometre offside"
kilometer
@@janofrandsen1617 if you dont use the word you dont get to choose how to spell it
@@bleachmaster1545 I didn't choose. That's just how it's spelled. And I do use it. Not sure why you would be upset at that. Grow up.
@@janofrandsen1617 Actually, he's closer to right than you are. Kilometer is the American spelling. Kilometre is British, and is also the spelling used by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures. In Canada, either is acceptable, so you are in the wrong for trying to correct him.
@@boosterh1113 Yep that was my British English spellcheck
I love all of Steve Dangle’s videos but PLEASE caption them so everyone can experience the amazingness that is Steve’s sarcasm and humor. If you all actively choose not to, I just hope you all just realize the irony of Steve signing “thank you” at the end of every video, but Deaf/deaf people not actually being able to watch the videos 🙃
@Li0nhunter365 "Mostly well enough" doesn't really cut it. Steve may speak clearly for the most part but it can be difficult to follow when there's no punctuation to mark the end of sentences. Also the auto cc is a complete joke whenever they switch to game broadcasts.
Thought I was gonna see Game 6 of the 2017 Stanley Cup Finals premature whistle. One of the worst calls on the biggest stages
I can fix the offside rule. It was obviously started to avoid egregious offsides, as Bettman himself has stated. Therefore, I say the refs get to watch the reply twice. Once at full speed, once at half speed. If it's not obvious by that point, the call on the ice stands and those 2" offsides that take away a goal will go away. Also, Nashville also got screwed because the Pens got a goal right after an icing play that should've been called down.
This was incredible, Steve. I love all of the time, thought, and research that went into these what-if, could've been scenarios, as well as all the connections you find to make between current players & teams. Truly awesome content and great insights. More of this please!
Thanks Steve. Needed this one. Especially as a Preds fan who was at Game 1 of the 2017 Stanley Cup Final sitting in THAT END WHERE THE GOAL WAS SCORED.
Feel that one man (Preds fan too)
Man, that was a very interesting 14 minute video Steve. I’m so bewildered how that wasn’t offside either. And what would’ve been the outcomes for if that offside goal was disallowed.
Steve, you should bring us on a tour of that room you are filming in (if you haven't already). Looks like a lot of interesting stuff and I'm sure you've got some good stories on some of those pieces too!
Thumbs up if you'd like to see it!
I think he's done it on his own channel. Could be before he had to remodel it
Ah OK... I'll see if I can find it. Thanks!
I love how even the fans didn’t even get excited about the breakaway because they knew it was offside.
You should do Edmonton's blown lead in game five during the 2017 playoffs, and specifically the ALLOWED GOALIE INTERFERENCE on the tying goal!!!
Steve is the most unbiased Leafs fan , EVER! I have a lot of respect for him, as an unbiased Habs fan .
Marc Bergevin's own goal against San Jose deserves a Dang-It!
I believe it has been mentioned before
The official rules say that if a player on the opposite team hits it back into their own zone, there will be no offside, even if an opposing player is still currently in said zone.
What is trash is the fact that refs call back goals because of an offside from 5 minutes ago. If the other team has a chance to get back and they didn’t call it before, then they should let the goal stand. Stuff like this makes sense because the other team had no chance to stop that goal
Lol when you're into the KHL and you hear the name Sergei Kostitsyn and you're like "heyyy you"
12:01 The stir-craziness is getting to you Steve! I don't wanna go back, but I remember you accidentally saying Colorado when you meant Calgary earlier, but this time you meant when the Pittsburgh Penguins won the 2017 Stanley Cup Finals and said 2016
It's plain to see that the linesman wasn't paying attention, panicked and went "Yeah, that's onside", given how late his signal was. These things happen, sadly. I've been a cricket umpire and had to make decisions on run outs where I've maybe blinked at the wrong moment and missed the vital part of the play. You have to use your best judgement at the time. Glad there's reviews for this stuff now, but yeah, that really is a dangit!
the hawks got screwed in Minnesota a couple years back over something similar to what you were saying at the 6 minute mark. Hjalmarsson laid out to block a pass and it went off his body to whoever scored the goal even though he was way offsides and they said Hammer "put it in his own zone" so it wasnt offsides
Yeah, but I'll buy that. If you take a deliberate action to hit (or be hit by) the puck, and cause it to change direction, that's on you, you redirected the puck into your own zone. That's different than just being clipped from behind because you were in the way of an opposing pass.
It's like a kicking the puck in the net. If you intentionally kick the puck, there's no goal, even if it was intended as a legal kick pass that just bounced weird and went in. But if a shot bounces off your skate and into the net, with no intent or action on your part (other than just existing near the net), then the goal counts.
Of course it was a mile offside in the mile high city 😂
More like light year
Doug gilmour watching this like “I am waiting for the dumb call by Kerry Fraser”.
The Boston Philadelphia 2010 series is good dang it
teka jacobs shhhh we don’t talk about that, we talk about the 2011 rematch
@@Quellebreo373 that one didnt make history, all it did was prove we taught them a lesson
teka jacobs well... uhh... at least we won the cup XD
@@Quellebreo373 Gotta say it was a hell of a run, but do remember your team has the most cup final losses in the NHL (one of them coming in 17 seconds). You know, as a humble reminder. lol
teka jacobs that one hits hard😢
Idk if this was by coincidence, but my "up next" video was the Dang-Its vid with the Landeskog "offsides"
Man I've missed Steve acting things out so much haha
True the Penguins won the cup in 2016, but we played Nashville and beat them in the finals in 2017.
Here’s a dang-it.... the Predators having a critical goal disallowed in Game 6 of the 2017 SCF that would have put Nashville up 1-0 instead of losing 2-0.
Imagine if Torts was the coach of the Preds with Duchene's offside goal... He'll be arrested 😂
I think I need to watch you more often
"Matt Duschene and the puck were social distancing BEFORE social distancing became a thing." That's GREAT. When I heard that, I actually LAUGHED OUT LOUD.
It's so frustrating when the refs get it wrong one way. And then to overcompensate, the get wrong the other way.
Refs: "No offsides, GOAL!"
Fans, players, coaches, the offside player, the person who knows nothing about hockey: "He was clearly offsides!"
Refs: "Offsides, No Goal!"
Fans, players, coaches, the onside player, people just learning about hockey: "He was clearly onsides!"
This day may never come but it'll make my day / week to see Dangle wear a Sharks jersey.
Even more ironically, Calle Jarnkrok and Elias Lindholm are cousins, so seeing Lindholm being drafted by the Predators would be kinda nice lol.
Imagine helping out a Devil's fan on Hat Trick Trivia when you make fun of them every week
I am real enjoying these deep looks into dang its!
Ironically, Matt Duchene now plays for Nashville...full circle. As a Preds fan, that Stanley Cup replay hurt my soul.
The NHL has a rule that it is NOT OFFSIDE if the defending team puts it in over the blue line. That is why the linesman ruled it "on side". You can see in the video that Craig Smith bats it in the zone, and there is even good old Hannan whacking at it too.
After seeing that, it's only a matter of interpreting if they did it on purpose, or if it was just a deflection
When steave says Jones is a Huracan by accident at the 1034 mark 😂😂😂
First one wasn't offside because it was the defender who "passed" him the puck...
"If a defending player moves or passes the puck into his defensive zone, while an attacking player is in the offside position, no offside shall be sentenced"
Interesting, I misremembered the Kucherov OT goal in 2015 as the catalyst for the offside review.
I remember there was a good bit of chatter about review after that one.
Dang It idea: Game 1 2006 Stanley Cup Finals. Oilers vs Hurricanes.
Oilers lead late in the second 3-0, Canes score 4 unanswered (1 late in second, and 3 in 3rd) to take the lead.
Oilers score to tie 4-4.
Oilers lose starting goalie (Roloson) to injury with ~5 minutes left in regulation.
Conklin comes in, makes a couple of saves, but then with less than a minute left, he misplays the puck behind the net which leads to an open net Brind’Amour goal with 32 seconds left to give Canes the 5-4 win.
Canes go on to win the cup in 7 that year so the misplay likely cost Edmonton the cup.
This is my way of seeing it the trashville preds touched the puck making it not offside
"How was that onside?"
Simple, he wasn't. Plain and simple.
Nashville kicks the puck into the zone. Kicking the puck is enough to possess the puck. Which makes the play good.
@@adamcartwright4096 Dude, the NHL made an entire new rule and review process because of this play. They even admitted they were wrong. Sit down.
Matthew Martin nope same thing happened with Brett hull when he kicked the puck to his stick while in the crease. They said that is possession of the puck. The Nashville player kicked the puck up. Good enough for possession. I’m going to stay standing. Thank you.
@@adamcartwright4096 I assume you are talking about the Stanley cup final goal? That was dealing with the goalie crease! How is that in any way shape or form related to an offsides?! And he purposefully kicked the puck to go own stick to score. And it never even touched a Nashville's players foot. And if it was then it was Incidental. I.E. it just bounced off.
Matthew Martin yes it did touch the second Nashville player if you watch it. The puck goes off the first guy. Goes over to the second guy and he kicks it up to the Colorado player. It does not matter if it’s incidental or he meant to do it. The fact is he still kicked it. Which means he possessed the puck. Just like Brett hull who only time he touched the puck before putting it in the net while he was in the crease was when he kicked it to his stick. And the rule says if you possess the puck while in the crease then the goal is good. Brett hull never touched the puck besides him kicking it to his stick. So that kicking of the puck would deem him having possession. It would be the same with the Nashville player. It does not matter if he meant it or he didn’t. The fact that he kicked it is good enough.
I hope you keep doing these "classics" even after regular play resumes (whenever that will be).
steve finally admits that producer drew isnt real
Seeing Trotz get angry never gets old
The puck was in 1970 while ducenne was in 2050
All-time Dang-It: Steve Yzerman’s 2OT winner vs. Blues in ‘96
How's that a Dang-It? It's like the greatest shot in the history of the league?
Capella Gretzky had it, lost it
@@Diljabar I guess. I don't see a run-of-the-mill turn over in the neutral zone being called an "All Time Dang-It" though. 499/500 times that play does not end in a goal.
How about redoing some drafts, with hindsight there's some hilarious misses. The top 10 or complete 1st round.
I absolutely love your channel. Love the fact that you respect that players and officials are people. Lots of folks are quick to trash officials but as people we have to understand that mistakes happen. One day I will forgive Leon Stickle for 1980
Now Duchene plays for Nashville lol
Dan Cloutier 2002 playoffs..... THAT’S a classic Dang It
He doesn't whiff that goal I'd like to think we knock Detroit off its perch. The Canucks win the series and who knows?
Best part of it all is that Matt Duchene is now a Nashville Predator
Watching this two years later after seeing Matt Duchene get boo’d by Avalanche fans while he plays for Nashville is kinda funny 😂
I actually kinda see how it counts now the Preds did put it in their own zone
LMAO Duchesne doesn't even TAKE A STRIDE after he gets the puck. He knows that he's offside
If we are mentioning things that didn't count in that 2017 final between Pittsburgh and Nashville, how about the game 6 no goal. I'm a pens fan and even I find that no goal ridiculous.
THANK YOU!!!! (I'm a Preds fan haha). You are the only pens fan I've ever come across that admits that. All the other ones I have met either just try and logically explain it or just smirk and look the other way. And congrats on the Stanley cup win :)
@@matthewmartin7639 The only "logical" explanation I could give is that 1- the ref was in a terrible spot and assumed Murray had the puck and 2- there was a moment earlier in the game where a whistle wasn't blown as quickly as it should have been so the refs were making up the call? Still a dang it of legendary proportions. How about giving both teams a dang it for that series. You guys outplayed us in Pittsburgh but the bounces went our way, then you killed us in Nashville. Then we killed you in game 5 and then game 6. The whole series should probably get a dang it.
@@hawkeye7522 Oh it was a heartbreaking ending to the fairytale run. I mean easily one of the worst played, called, and just overall experienced Stanley cup finals I've ever witnessed. And that's on booth teams and coaches. After both teams did so good it's like it all fell apart at the end.
As an Avs fan living in a house with Pens fans, this video made me chuckle.
I think you should have pointed out Avs/Sharks 2019 game 7. The hockey gods punished the Avs for bringing this curse upon the league.
You should do Brindamour's surprise goal in Game 1 of the 2006 SCF
This guy can get a job on sportsnet for saying Joe Sakic should give hope to us all
That's what i thought when i first watched the video, he kicks the puck into his own zone. It's more of an "oops," then an "offside."
I was having a decent time, having made peace long ago with the Duchene offside goal. Then you throw PK’s offside goal into the video, and now I want to go drink heavily.
Crazy thing is Preds coaches in those two “situations” were Trotz and Laviolette. Caps ex coaches
This goal would make even the calmest of head coaches lose their minds
Thumbnail didn’t load in but I knew what it was
Have you done a Dang it on Brett Hull's in the crease goal?
I'm going to keep advocating for the Flyers Bruins 2010 playoff series. The Bruins were up 3 games to 0 in the series, then 3-0 in game 7 and they lost both game 7 and the series 4-3 Flyers. This was only the 4th time in SPORTS history a team came back from 3 games to 0, let alone a 3 goal deficit in game 7 as well
I HAVE to mention Danny Briere's also blatantly offside goal in the 2012 Pens/Flyers 1st round series, Game 1. Pens up 3-0. Briere is WAY offside, but the goal counts, Flyers tie it up, win in overtime, and go on to win the wackiest playoff series I have ever seen.
The fact that Duchene is now with Nashville 😭😭
I can actually watch this channel if they keep the obnoxious Leafs merch away
I thought that The War Room in Toronto reviews every goal, and can call the officials and tell them to call off a goal. Was that happening then? Shouldn't they have called that off?
I just found this page. And I love this page. Lmao instant sub
The funny part of this is that everyone involved was a part of the Nashville Predators at some point
"The linesman i believe was screened".. he should have had his brain screened for calling that onside.
Why this doesn't have any likes is a mystery
sports stories always interest me cause theyre frustratingly and lovingly human. whether for better or for worse very much human.
Do the Blues win the 2019 cup if Steve Yzerman doesn't score the double ot goal? Would the "curse" have ended in 96?
This kind of counterfactual speculation is ridiculous. Final standings are made up of millions of small events. And "all else remains equal" is never how reality rolls.
Somehow I was sure you'd also circle back to the offsides call on Landeskog in the Avs/Sharks play-offs last year....the rule-review Steve Duchene created comes back to haunt the Avs.
That took me 0 replays to notice that was offside. How does the linesman say "no.. Not offside!"
The story is now not even over yet. Last night, in overtime, Nashville had too many men on nice. The refs made the call,.........................BUT THEY CALLED IT ON THE AVALANCHE (who don't have too many men on ice). The Predators went on the power play, and they win it in overtime on a goal by...........................what do you know............it's MATT DUCHENE!!! IT JUST CAME FULL CIRCLE!!! TWO TEAMS, TWO TERRIBLE CALLS, BOTH COSTING A TEAM THE ENTIRE GAME, AND BOTH GOALS SCORED BY MATT DUCHENE!!! IF THIS IS NOT THE DEFINITION OF DEJA VU, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS!
Being a Blue Jackets fan, I'm actually pretty glad that this goal counted since it led to us getting Seth Jones. Jones and Werenski are such a great defensive pair.
For all you people saying that it was kicked, you need to watch it closely. It hit the hand of a Nashville player and no other Nashville player kicked it watch it
The one I am going to suggest makes Toronto Maple Leaf fans go crazy after, the high sticking of the great one , yes Wynne Gretzky on the Maple Leafs
You'd think by looking at how hard duchene tries at the end that he knows it's offside. Like the guy was skating about as hard as me on an ODR in my local parc.
In soccer if something like that happens you are expected to give the ball to the other team, and they don't just kick it past you either, everybody kind of resets. You see it in placed like the Champions League. I know they fall down when a fly lands on them, but there is still some professional behaviour.
Who else skips through him talking for the clips?
Don’t forget avs vs sharks game 7 last year. The avs equalizing goal against San Jose was called off for landeskog ( the 6th skater) being barley offsides on a review.
Lol Refs thought that it hit the Nashville player then it was Onside for Matt smh.
There were two touching by Predator's defenders before player of Colorado got the pass. In a fact it was a pass back to Nashv zone where are walking an adversary. Also it is no two line cross pass because pass change the track twice what lad to a pass was got slowly.
Not even the Devils' biggest Dang-it. That one's named Kovalchuk.
