Back in the 70's, the very rare (and expensive) Nikon 13mm f5.6 was the end-all of rectilinear wide angles. Now we've not only exceeded the field of view by a considerable margin, but prices have dropped. After factoring in inflation, prices have really dropped. Is the 7 Artisans lens technically in the same league? We'll have to wait and see, but my goodness that looks tempting. The brick wall test (and availability of correction models in various editing programs) will help the decision making process. Matt, your videos with this lens certainly help display the potential of this lens. Nicely done 👍
Hi Matt. 9mm is a bit wide for the images I like to capture. But it’s great to see what this lens delivers. Thank you for sharing your ideas for how this lens might be used. And it looks great on the Zf! I look forward to seeing more as you have more time with this lens.
I am looking forward to giving this lens a try. I really want a super wide for some of my nightscape and would be curious as to what can be captured at 5.6
Always glad 3rd party lens companies giving us Z mount choices, it's exciting times. As cool as this lens is I already own the AF-S Fisheye 8-15/3.5-4.5E ED which is AF and although F mount, works beautifully with FTZ. Love this angle of view, creative to be sure! Nice images Matt!
Please ask nikon to add trap focus to manual focus mode. so the shutter only releases when it detects the subject in focus. this will help greatly with manual focus lenses that have a chip, like the zeiss zf.2.
Thanks Matt for the video. This is a great looking lens for the price. Amazing that straight lines can be keep to a certain extent. Just need a Zf or Z7111 to to pair with it.
Very nice video. I like your style of shoting in the dark. I have been using the Voigtlaender 10mm F/5.6 FF on e-mount for the past 5 years. It's fun to use such ultra wide angle lenses. Laowa also has a 9mm F/5.6 FF for various mounts. It should also work well on the Zf.
it's great to see all these options for Z--manual and auto. And this looks like a super little lens. The distortion looks to be minimal for something so wide! In respect to it being manual focus, I could see this being the kind of lens you'd use with a tripod, line everything up, etc. Great for interiors and exteriors ... as you;'ve shown so well here. Thanks for the preview, Matt.
I using the Samyang XP 14 mm f2.4 full frame on the EF mount, it is available for Nikon. It's fast and wide 114 degrees. Manual focus but in camera aperture. Worth you having a look at Matt
Hello Matt, thank you for yet another neat video. About that ZF. Would you consider recording some examples that semi auto-manual focus in work? If I understand correctly, it's something next-level focus peeking? ...or it's just Ibis works like autofocus now? ;) What sorcery is that sir? ;)
Focus peaking is awful with a wide angle lens because of the large depth of field. The more useful >o< focus indicator does not work when a fully manual lens is installed on the Z8. I've written to Nikon tech support about this but will it be addressed? More people asking for it might help.
AWESOME!!!! I own the TTArtizen APC 50mm f/1.2 and it works great on my Z50 so looking forward to getting this from 9mm 7Artisan. Also wondering what are your thoughts on TTArtisans new 500mm f/6.3?
Very cool lens. And at that price pretty irresistible impulse to grab one and just play with that wide angle -- speaking of which: who wants sharp (even undistorted) to the edges when shooting that wide; that's the delight of the lens, as very much shown in your great stills. Yup, think I'll treat myself to one :) Cheers!
Enjoyed it thoroughly, Matt, great video, you had me ogling at the 7 artisans and the ZF great pics of the combo and background blurred out...I've the 7 artisans 35mm f/0.95 with my Z50, I don't have the full frame Z camera, this video tempts me get one 😁
Hi Matt nice review you and i must think on similar lines as im awaiting the Laowa 9mm f5.6 FF RL to pair up with my Z7 and now my Zf how about reviewing them both (when you have time)
Great video Matt this maybe a silly question what adapter do we need for this lens ?I have the FTZii Nikon that I use.. Much appreciated all your shared knowledge Ty.
That combination does look really good! My question for a future video is are you able to do “lens correction” in Lightroom on this lens since it is fully manual? I have a sigma 8-16 DX lens and I can “lens correct” in Lightroom since the lens registers with the camera body. Thanks for another great video!
I actually prefer the 7artisan and TTartisans lenses than native Z for "walkaround" cus up until few weeks they had faster options than actual Nikon. 50mm 7artisan f/1.05 is my fav 50mm lens since 2021. Although i don't shoot much wide this is a great option too.
Thanks Matt, great first look. Question - have you done any noise reduction on the video at 51,200 or 8000 ISO? They look very usable indeed, quite amazing in fact, the Zf is quite impressive if this is straight out of camera.
Is this FF lens? Does same lens with different mount produce slightly different angle of view because of the flange distance? Do each of the lens from different mount has different length of just same lens with different mount? Is it suitable for these AMSR walkaround tour video? What would be the better focal length if it's not suitable or maybe more suitable focal length typically used?
Yes if is FF. Flange distance does not matter as each lens is made for the proper flange distance - otherwise they could not focus properly. That is the Nikon version should be 4 mm longer then the Canon version. This of course works also on APS-C and it is ultra wide even on them. Typical APS-C ultra wides start at 10 mm.
i found out who seth miranda is he used to shoot dig bmx and dirt bmx mags and thats my inspiration for this lens the photography was THE BEST ineed it for live bands imagine being able to stretch a light
Thank you for this great introduction to this great super-wide lens !
Pleasure.
I have no idea how i would use this. I love that it exists, thiugh.
Sounds perfect for small interior shots for real estate, specially bathrooms
Actually, matching with the jacket is a success. Be proud of your camera and your jacket you handsome man!

Looks like a great lens for producing ultra wide images, especially cityscapes which I enjoy taking.

Some nice results on your hoots!

Great points Ray. Yes great little ultra wide.

I saw a reviewer using the eye auto focus that works during manual focus on the Zf.

Love the matching jacket! 😂
Thanks 😆
WOW

Mine is on the way from pergear

Wow,you got super shots !👍👍👍
A very interesting lens!! - I hope for a Z 10-20mm F4 (and/or a 10-20mm F4.5-5.6) like the canon ;-)
Hi Matt nice review you and i must think on similar lines as im awaiting the Laowa 9mm f5.6 FF RL to pair up with my Z7 and now my Zf how about reviewing them both (when you have time)
Looks classic! Bet your Pergear 35mm would look truly retro.
Great video Matt this maybe a silly question what adapter do we need for this lens ?I have the FTZii Nikon that I use.. Much appreciated all your shared knowledge Ty.
Cool lens, it would be great lens for wildflower photography which includes the surrounding habitat at 9mm

Hi Matt, how would you compare this lens towards the Laowa 12mm f2.8 Zero D? I am evaluating these two for indoor architecture shots. Thank you!

Just thinking about a wide for my lens kit.
Hello Matt, I know this looks quit good. But do you think that Nikon will make any wide or super wide lenses?
Thanks Matt, great first look. Question - have you done any noise reduction on the video at 51,200 or 8000 ISO? They look very usable indeed, quite amazing in fact, the Zf is quite impressive if this is straight out of camera.
No noise reduction on video. SOC. I agree it is great results. I will test specifically at a later date. Zf is very versatile. 😀
Does Nikon suport focus magnification on manual lenses?

At 600 euros ... this is not that cheaper then the kaowa
Am I the only one who feels this is on the high side price wise? I've hojestly never heard of 7-artisan ....
Google
For a 9mm? The only other one is the Laowa.
No, not at 9mm FF.
@@TravelerNick do you know if either is sharper or better quality. I've never owned a 3rd party lens, Nikon glass for 20 years.
