I LOVE my Beacons. I wore them all the time this summer and then got distracted by the Turbos and some other shoes. Pulled them out for the first time in weeks and it was like reuniting with a comfortable old friend. Great combination of cushion and responsiveness, and the light weight is so great. Might be the best knit upper in the business, and that's from someone who really loves both Flyknit and Primeknit.
Gabe, love this line, "Pulled them out for the first time in weeks and it was like reuniting with a comfortable old friend." After one run in the Beacon and it's upper, hands down the most comfortable knit upper I've ever experienced. Flyknit is a close second. Keep you posted as I keep running in these Beacons.
I've had my Beacon for months, and always love them when I'm running in them, but I tend to get caught up in other shoes. I've had great luck in them up to about 8.5 miles. They are a little TOO flexible and unstructured for me beyond that, but for a lively and comfy 5-6 mile run they are ideal. Two interesting thing I find about the ride of the Beacon... 1.) They transition GREAT down hill. Maybe it's the slight rocker, maybe it's the perfect amount of cushioning in the forefoot. I just don't seem to slide forward in them, despite the nice roomy toebox. Just awesome. 2.) I find they keep me focused on my landing. When I'm lazy/tired/notgivingacrap I tend to land more on my heel and less midfoot. The heel on the Beacon is no where near as comfy to land on as the midfoot to me. So the Beacon always reminds me to get the heck off my heel. And the moment I do, it's really rewarding. Makes the run easier, more comfortable, and less jarring. So Kudos to the designers of the Beacon. Not sure if it's awesomeness was by design or just a bunch of happy accidents permeating from a simple design, but either way, it's a win for us. Nice fun and entertaining vid, keep it up!
I’ve put 70 miles on my Beacons and absolutely love them! They bring a smile to my face every time I wear them. I’ve gone up to half marathon in them and they felt good. They’re so light that I enjoy them for speed work too. Your comparison to slippers is spot on. They almost feel like a cushioned barefoot shoe if that makes any sense? I usually rotate between Hoka Clifton/Challenger and Nike Peg 35 and Odyssey. Odyssey too squishy for me. Have always avoided NB Fresh Foam As have found it stiff and clunky. The Fresh Foam GC in the Beacons is a revelation though! My favourite shoe of the year, without question. Have some Clifton 1’s arriving for my big 5-0 birthday in a few weeks, so we’ll see how they compare..... What a great channel BTW-nice one Seth!
I’m great! Slowly editing last road trip videos so jacob sho on the road series will end soon :) and preparing studio for future content. Today I bought wood-burn stove/oven so happy days!
I’m glad your initial thoughts of the Beacon is positive. I love them for everything apart for trails. I am firmly a fore front runner and works well for me aswell. Hope you continue to enjoy them as I do :-)
My best in-store shoe-buying experience was going to Hannon’s maybe a year ago. My feet have always been picky so I only had maybe two pairs of shoes I was running in when one of them died. The other couldn’t take me longer than 6 miles without pain and I was training for the Freep half marathon. I went to Hannon’s after a friend pressed me to get it done in time for the race. The clerk worked with me for an hour or so having me try on shoe after shoe before I found a pair I liked: the Brooks Hyperion Tempo. They felt fantastic. Light as air, no weird lumps inside the shoe, no weird tilt, no crease over my toe, and a simple set of colors. I hated that the shoes were far more expensive than I was willing to pay, but🤷🏽♀️I couldn’t find anything else cheaper. Kudos to Hannon’s.
I've got the beacons too.. really enjoy them. I find the cushioning on them interesting. Not soft on initial landing but then cushioning hits and nice transition. Really enjoying them.
Fresh. Don't have a pair of those NB, but I have had some of the older fresh foam NB, was wearing them the last couple of years and the 890 v4s before that. I do love the NB and will probably go back to them when my current pairs of Brooks break down.
had pf for bout 15 months. the only thing that helped was doing more running in minimalist shoes (like sandals or vaporglove) and also running (if you could call it that) the last half mile when in regular shoes in my socks. 52 year old feet needed much more strength. also I think overall the low drop helps overall strength and endurance (1:16 half and 57 min 10 miler this year after using low drop a lot more). I did shot (miserable) custom supports, accupuncture so I tried everything....
I would argue that a low drop also can stress the injury more. I work selling runnings shoes and our main rule for this type of injury is to incorporate a higher heel drop that actually moves a lot of the stress to the front of your foot. I would also continue to use the insoles with arch support in order to even out the load on the entire foot, thus reduce the heel pain. But most of all I would encourage you to start training specifically on strengthening the tendon. Rest never heals, it only reduces the swelling. A tendon injury like this needs about six months of real specific strength training in order to heal.
I've been running in the fresh foam beacon for months. I didn't know what to think of it at 1st but after a few weeks I think it's the best shoe I have ever run in. I run everything from fast intervals to 13.1 mile long runs in this shoe and it always impresses. The shoe is light so I can easily pick up my tempo on my runs and the cushioning helps protect my joints. I am recovering faster after my runs with the FFB. At the same time I am now running at least 30 sec faster per mile. Glad to hear that you like it too Seth.
John, this is GREAT news! I'm very excited about the shoe. In fact, I will wear it tomorrow on my recovery run after today's half marathon I just did. Are you mostly an urban runner (roads and concrete)?
I was a Saucony loyalist until my girlfriend got me the New Balance Beacon and the NB1400 since then I only run in New Balance specially the Beacon I can wait for the second generation!
Nice shoe”fresh” indeed. Did you buy the insole too? Wondered how that same insole might make other shoes feel, if you purchased them.? Great channel.....even the lifestyle part ☺️😀😉
Thanks sir! I totally forgot to mention that I did NOT purchase the insole. BUT I may go back to the store and pick up the insole if my PF does not improve over the next 10 days. Keep you posted. Glad you enjoy the lifestyle part too : )
Been really wanting to get in a pair of those. Got even more excited about new balance in general after seeing the service in that store!😆 And I’m a size 8 so I buy at least half my running shoes in women’s versions. They usually go on sale quick and everything
Ted, I feel you man with respect to seeking out the smaller sizes, its not always easy. I was truly blown away by the New Balance in store experience. Thanks for the comment. What is going to be your next shoe purchase?
Seth James DeMoor I’ve been looking for a lighter cushioned shoe for long runs. Especially for those times when I try to have better cadence and some fast miles in em. It’s probably going to come down to Beacons, Napalis or odyssey reacts. But I’m open to suggestions! And excited to hear more about the beacons
I can sympathize, suffered from it in 2016 and over training recently has brought it back. Hopefully with new shoes, arch support through an insert and massage I'll hopefully get through it without having a break for training. Good review 👍
Sorry to hear that James, PF is rough. I WISH all of us runners knew what caused the PF to return? It's a mystery as to what causes it to come back after laying dormant for months if not years. Thanks for watching and commenting.
My shoes always get destroyed on the lateral plantar like I think it’s how I land like I normally land forefoot or slightly forward on my feet but yeah is it worth me going to an expert next time I need shoes seeing as my shoes always get destroyed in the same place? Just feel like I waste the shoe because everywhere else on the shoe is like brand new
FRESH. My best in-store shoe buying experience was with Runner's Plus in Dayton, Ohio. I'm sure it's not ground breaking - but they have a sweet policy that you can return your shoe (no questions asked) within 30 days - and that includes wear on trails. I have used this policy and thus will be a loyal customer for a long time.
I do 20milers in this shoe. It has loads of cushion and has a wide base so it's very stable as your form breaks down over the longer miles. 100 miles on them so far and id say they've lost 10% of their tread. You'll get 3-400 miles out of these
David, this is encouraging to hear. You and a few others have commented about how the Beacons are their go to long run shoe... Maybe I'll have to try some time for the long run.
I make my own inserts for my pf using cork and soles. I think the peg 33 are what caused me problems. I've also found that a lower heel to toe drop shoes help alot.
Almost bought these yesterday. But I chose the Hoka Clifton 1. My thinking was I can get some other anytime, but the Hokas are a limited release. Can’t wait to go running in a bit.
Seth James DeMoor First thing I noticed was how lightweight it is. I have 2 pair of Clifton 4s and 2 Glycerin 15s that I rotate. The 1s are just as comfortable and little more softer. I’ve been having problems with PF and Achilles at times over the summer because I’ve really put in the miles. I’ve been nothing but a Brooks guy for several years, but recently went full time with the Hokas and the pain is non existent. The Clifton 4s is the first Hokas I’ve ever owned btw.
Hi there! Already 150km on my Beacons now.... 22kms as a longest run....a nice shoe. Upper nice, with an inner sock-liner which helps to have the forefoot in place although lacs a bit of basic stability. Mushy insole, Love THIS FFoam. Is not a fast shoe but a refreshing one, relax for feet.
NICE! I'm not sure this shoe would be the best for a LONG run, but it may depend on the surface that you mostly train on.... Where do you usually do your long runs?
It feels great when i see your vlog, makes me want to run everyday but here in Indonesia is difficult. I have to avoid motorcycles and bad road condition. Btw new balance are great shoes. I have 5 pairs and one of them is fresh foam arishi ( which is the most comfort for run or jog for me ).
The reason the Pegasus Turbo flares up your fasciitis is the place it bends or flexes, dead centre of the shoe. It is supposed to flex in the forefoot. After one run the the Turbos, I was limping for two weeks. I don't know how Nike could have made such a big mistake.
Seth, great name, and YES, the Turbo is causing me some issues, I need to figure out what is going on by wearing the Turbos just a little bit more. Keep me posted on your PF, I hope it does not linger for too long.
I found the "baby blues" video...I love the NB stores. I have been buying NB's at the factory store in Lawrence Massachusetts for 20 years. They have a factory in Scarborough Maine and Lawrence,MA. They build the 990 series "Made in USA" shoes at those 2 locations. Look inside the tongue of the shoe at the tag for location L =lawrence S= scarborough. The factory store sells seconds and regulars for discounted prices, great customer service, great deals. I just got Tempo V1's for$59.99 and buy 1 get 1 50% off.
Great shoes! Remind me of Clifton 1 but a little stiffer. I just ran Philly Marathon two days ago and got 27 minutes PR with these shoes! My only issue with this shoes is it runs a little small. I'm going to lose my toe nail because of this...
Hi Seth James DeMoor Would you be able to let me know the model of the insole that the NB store recommended and inserted in your Beacons? Is it any good? Thank you.
Hi Seth, your intro (and others where we see your face and you’re talking), did you use the Canon 5D? For your leaf catching, I’m sure that was the GoPro...
Hello Seth, Pegasus turbo gave me the worst plantar fasciitis I ever had. After a few runs and specially a 10 miles run I could not touch my left foot on the ground. I think it’s too soft and it depends if your stride I think the foot will pressure on an uneven way. Anyway I think the problem is its softness. By the way you could try the Reebok float ride run fast. It’s a great shoe, with a sole near zoom x.
So sorry Jorge. PF is such a hard injury to work through. Thanks for the shoe ideas, I will keep you posted on the NB Beacons. Do you still have PF in your foot?
Heel raises + lifting stuff with my toes + calf streching + magnesium supplements. Thats how i got rid of pf. For sure calf tightness had something to do with my case...
@@SethJamesDeMoor I am assuming muscle relaxation (calves) ? Anyway i dont know if its relavant to your case but all this stuff helped me and actually pretty fast!
Hi there, I'm experiencing pain in the ball of my left foot. It started after I finished my first half marathon. Recently I've been given stability shoes Brooks Ravenna 10 cuz my right leg overpronate a little. Can I still be running the Beacons and use midfoot forefoot strike?
@@SethJamesDeMoor Do I have to run low distance while the pain goes and I'm trying to change my foot strike or keep it as it is now 40km per week? October is my second HM!
Hoka and Nike would have to be my favorite shoes right now, but I'm becoming more and more interested in Altra and New Balance. What do you usually run in?
@@SethJamesDeMoor For sure. I've said before (especially when I was dealing with ITBS) that PF and Achilles tendonitis are the two that I would really want to stay away from. At least itbs is relatively [do this, get that] sort of a recovery. PF is just such a crapshoot. Well at least's it's going into winter and not April and beautiful.
JustinDoesTriathlon I’ve had all three. Pf is probably the worst but achilles tendonitis is bad too. For both it started in one foot and then moved to the other as it was going away in the first. Dealing with PF in my second foot now.
No, however after some research it looks very painful, hope your injury gets better soon! (Ps sorry if my original comment came off as rude, it wasn’t not my intention to sound mean)
I have a pair of the Beacons. Usually run in Hoka's and wanted to try something different. The upper is definitely really solid, but for the feel of the shoes, it feels like it's always pushing into my heel/arch area, which makes for an uncomfortable ride. I mean after several miles into my runs I can begin to ignore it, but it's been sort of been a dealbreaker for me. May return and exchange it. Did you have like a break-in period for these shoes? I just bought these shoes last week and have only put in 25 miles into them.
Unfortunately I have the same issue. Arch support, right shoe only, digs into my arch. Playing with different insoles to minimize the discomfort. It’s a shame, I love the light weight, the cushioning, the looks, the toe box.
@@joshcontreras8821 They are usually the same except women's shoes are slightly narrower. But we're talking about a couple of millimeters, so not noticeable unless you have really wide feet.
Seth James DeMoor yeah he claims it will literally lengthen your calves so the tendon doesn’t get so tight and brittle as it wraps around the back of your heel. Zero drop shoes will probably help too
30-45 miles per week with 2 tempo / interval workouts per week. I’m only a high schooler so can only afford a pair of shoes per season but am looking for a pair preferably under $100 for next xc season fast but also good for longer runs
Fresh: Qd: Don't own. If they do ok with you I will go buy me a pair for everyday wear. My best shoe experience was in a Naturalizer Store. The dress shoes were AMAZINGLY comfortable--which is very hard to find. Lovely to see the family. Btw, 10,000 subscribers does not look so far away now, huh? God bless.
I got an ever better option to shoo at in the netherlands. It is hosted by ex elite-runners (my trainers) from the netherlands and they do the same but they got all the brands nike NB brooks asics UA, so when you coming to visit and review that store 😉😉
i don't believe that everyone should wear orthotics all the time while running but in the case of recovering from plantar fasciitis, i'd grab yourself a pair with a high enough arch that you plantar won't have to compress and flatten as much when you run.
Seth James DeMoor I wish I had a magic answer for PF. It is a real monster of a problem. If you haven’t already, you should have it x-rayed to see exactly what you are dealing with.
Oh man. What a great video. Keeping it FRESH in 2021 🤘

Interesting! I would love to meet Max, seems like a great guy! Was he working at the Footzone?
@@SethJamesDeMoor yeah he was. Don't know if he still is. Great guy with a boat load of experience!
6:55 Hey now! That’s more like I do it!!
Hi Seth, your intro (and others where we see your face and you’re talking), did you use the Canon 5D? For your leaf catching, I’m sure that was the GoPro...
Will Tellsplatte precisely
Seth James DeMoor No not anymore. I’m recovering and running again with my Altra Escalante and Asics Tartherzeal.
Heel raises + lifting stuff with my toes + calf streching + magnesium supplements. Thats how i got rid of pf. For sure calf tightness had something to do with my case...
Magnesium supplements? Why magnesium, just curious....
Thanks for the comment!
@@SethJamesDeMoor I am assuming muscle relaxation (calves) ? Anyway i dont know if its relavant to your case but all this stuff helped me and actually pretty fast!
250 miles? What are your thoughts on runners who claim 400 to 500 miles for shoes? For me, shoes start to feel dead around 300+ miles.
Them shoes look great
Hi there, I'm experiencing pain in the ball of my left foot. It started after I finished my first half marathon. Recently I've been given stability shoes Brooks Ravenna 10 cuz my right leg overpronate a little. Can I still be running the Beacons and use midfoot forefoot strike?
Yes, that’s how I foot strike and I love the Beacons. Keep me posted on the pain, I bet it subsides soon.
@@SethJamesDeMoor Do I have to run low distance while the pain goes and I'm trying to change my foot strike or keep it as it is now 40km per week? October is my second HM!
So far when you have been testing running shoes what is your favorite ones
Hoka and Nike would have to be my favorite shoes right now, but I'm becoming more and more interested in Altra and New Balance. What do you usually run in?
@@SethJamesDeMoor I run in the hoka hupana
PF is absolutely infuriating. Sorry to hear man, good luck.
JustinDoesTriathlon Thanks Justin!
What name are the red long socks when running in the vaporfly?
They are Nike socks, will have to look up the model for you. Crew cut for sure. You like them!?!?!
Seth James DeMoor yes the color is awesome, very cool!
If you heel strike it will hurt that injury, try a lower to zero drop running shoe
ALTRA Is on my radar, have you ever had Plantar Fasciitis?
Same happened to me. After tested it twice, I returned it
Unfortunately I have the same issue. Arch support, right shoe only, digs into my arch. Playing with different insoles to minimize the discomfort. It’s a shame, I love the light weight, the cushioning, the looks, the toe box.
U ever thought of testing a skecher?
The actual build between a womans shoe and a mens shoe isnt different?
@@joshcontreras8821 They are usually the same except women's shoes are slightly narrower. But we're talking about a couple of millimeters, so not noticeable unless you have really wide feet.
After Backcountry half marathon time to get a new shoes .
Based on your experience which store would u suggest Road runners or runners rooster .
madan mallikarjun Tough call. Both good, I may lean toward Runners Roost at this point.
@@SethJamesDeMoorThanks for your response . Great videos Seth .. a lot of good information on shoes
Good work sir

Thanks Madan for letting me know! I appreciate that.
Have you checked with brad kearns? Primal endurance podcast host. He’s got an innovative method for PF
I have not. Will look it up.
Found it thx
2 min stretching appears to be the fix he promotes.
Seth James DeMoor yeah he claims it will literally lengthen your calves so the tendon doesn’t get so tight and brittle as it wraps around the back of your heel. Zero drop shoes will probably help too
Hi..where is this beautiful place where you live?
Denver, Colorado USA! Truly a great city to live in. Where are you from?
Croatia..Split is city where i live, see on youtube👌
What shoes do you using for your everyday long runs?
I've often used the Hoka Stinsons for the long run, but I need to find a new shoe for 15+ mile runs. How much do you run?
30-45 miles per week with 2 tempo / interval workouts per week. I’m only a high schooler so can only afford a pair of shoes per season but am looking for a pair preferably under $100 for next xc season fast but also good for longer runs
Fresh: Qd: Don't own. If they do ok with you I will go buy me a pair for everyday wear. My best shoe experience was in a Naturalizer Store. The dress shoes were AMAZINGLY comfortable--which is very hard to find. Lovely to see the family. Btw, 10,000 subscribers does not look so far away now, huh? God bless.
Angie, YOU've been with us for so long on this journey! Thank YOU for sticking with us.
I got an ever better option to shoo at in the netherlands. It is hosted by ex elite-runners (my trainers) from the netherlands and they do the same but they got all the brands nike NB brooks asics UA, so when you coming to visit and review that store 😉😉
That sounds like an open invitation to me!!! I love the Netherlands, beautiful country.
Fresh!!
Fresh: the baby blue looks good!
Right!?!? Not bad for a ladies shoe.
For sure!@@SethJamesDeMoor Back in the early 20teens neon flash was all the rage for guys and gals. It's a
"vintage" throw back haha.
FRESH!
i don't believe that everyone should wear orthotics all the time while running but in the case of recovering from plantar fasciitis, i'd grab yourself a pair with a high enough arch that you plantar won't have to compress and flatten as much when you run.
Nike zoom forever 5 spike
1400 are just incredible
Interesting, I do not know much about this shoe.
Sketcher goride 7 bro
Hmmmm.... Skechers, I'm a bit skeptical but maybe they've improved a TON!?!?

It seems like you buy shoes every week. I wish I were you!
: ) You do You, and the rest will take care of itself.
A lot of people who are really serious about running will keep buying shoes until they find the right one! It’s not unusual
How many shoes do you own? You must be spending a ton of 💰
Chris Mck About 20 pairs right now. Old and new shoes.
Seth James DeMoor
You must have to hide them all from the Mrs!!
Fresh
Man, you are going through the shoes.
Trying to solve the PF mystery. Don't worry, I will use them all until they are worn down to the bare bones.
Seth James DeMoor I wish I had a magic answer for PF. It is a real monster of a problem. If you haven’t already, you should have it x-rayed to see exactly what you are dealing with.
