    1:36, Ed Sheeran's philosophy when he writes a bad song isn't "move on, don't worry about it", but rather "give it to another artist and get royalties anyways". 😂

    The best thing he said and best advice was it’s hard writing songs on your own, for 8 years this was me, I felt pressure to write the whole myself , never had good producers until last year I found an amazing producer , I wrote I reckon maybe 80 percent of it and he did the rest together with me . And it paid off, best thing I’ve ever put out so far 😊my phone blew

    The melody of a song can be incredibly simple and still sound amazing. For example, the ascending background chorus in 'Hello Goodbye' by The Beatles, 'Hello Goodbye Hello Goodbye....', that's just the ascending major scale ( do-re-me-fa-so-la-ti-do )!

  • @MrJondinham
    @MrJondinham 2 года назад +41

    Ideally I think it's best to try and write something that means something. But a hell of a lot of songs don't seem to mean much. My favourite songwriter has always been John Lennon. He wrote a lot of meaningful songs but a lot of my favourites of his he admitted himself didn't mean anything. It doesn't make any difference to me, a song like Rain or Hey Bulldog meant nothing but I can still listen to them all day. Even a pointless story if told brilliantly with great melodies, rhythm, instrumentation can be a great song.

    • @seancarterx
      @seancarterx Год назад +6

      That phenomenon of lyric editing messing with the original idea is sooo frustrating. I find that the best way to get out of that is to just improvise a few lyrics and play with what comes out, and when you run dry, keep playing through the song on your instrument and just improved lines until you have something you like

    • @Cee_B
      @Cee_B Год назад +1

      Pick an experience that relates to the topic but don’t go into detail. Keep it ambiguous or short like skimming a story. That way it still relates, it’s a true experience, and it gives you a bigger table of words and syllables to rhyme or play with. Also stay ambiguous with topic/theme. Add experience or made up story to that theme/topic that made you feel the way the topic makes you feel. Example: a theme would be “Love” talk brief or tell a short summed up story of an experience that made you feel “Love”
      I got this way with rap. It’s harder to write a rap song on topic than say a R&B song bc there’s more words in shorter amount of time. Hope that helps!

    I think the problem is that songwriting means [song -> writing]. Most often it's just lack of song ideas musically.
    Without a song writing has no sense ;)
    I think people should more concentrate on music itself not on telling a story, because it's most important part :)
    Most people don't give a s**t what the song is about when it's boring to death.
