Quran (27:42) Salam. I need help with understanding this verse. After the Queen said the throne looks like the one she has, the ayah continues with "And we had been granted knowledge before her, and we had already submit to the will of Allah. My question is, who is speaking here? Cant be Bilqis and cant be Sulayman because she hasn't entered the palace yet to meet him. And who is it being directed to? Tq.
@AmirChemE Wa 'Alaikumussalam brother. May Allah be pleased with you for your curiosity and have mercy on me if I say something wrong. In the name of Allah most compassionate and most merciful. Brother this Ayah is a continuation of previous Ayah. Look carefully at the previous Ayah قَالَ نَكِّرُوا۟ لَهَا عَرْشَهَا نَنظُرْ أَتَهْتَدِىٓ أَمْ تَكُونُ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَهْتَدُونَ ٤١ ˹Then˺ Solomon said, “Disguise her throne for her so we may see whether she will recognize ˹it˺ or she will not be able to.” Solomon ordered his jinns to disguise her throne to test her. So she was coming to meet him and he is planning to show her throne to her in a disguised form. So the Ayah continues as you said- [So when she came, it was said 'to her', "Is your throne like this?" she replied, "It looks to be the same" and we were given knowledge before her and we had already submitted to the will of Allah.] Now, the Ayah starts with what "it was said to her" who said? Definitely solomon said. He wanted to test her right? So he'll ask her the questions. So that means they already met. When she answered, he continued saying that 'she was tested and we already believed in Allah'. Many of the scholars agree that the Ayah continued from Solomon's voice. So the next Ayah is - [But she had been hindered by what she used to worship instead of Allah, for she was indeed from a disbelieving people.] That means although Solomon was happy with her answer she didn’t become a believer right away. Because she was always amongst the disbelieving people. But later when she was going to enter the palace Solomon made for her and saw the magic he possessed by the will of Allah and then she became a believer and submitted to Allah. And said - “My Lord! I have certainly wronged my soul. Now I ˹fully˺ submit myself along with Solomon to Allah, the Lord of all worlds.” Hope it is clear to you now.
@@Tafseeroflife Tq for your insight. Notice the words 'her' and 'she' are being used in the Ayah, 'granted knowledge before her' and later, 'she had been hindered'. I didn't think Sulayman was directing his speech towards her because we dont usually use the word 'her' and 'she' when talking about a person whom you're talking to. If it was, then why didn't the Ayah says 'We have been given knowledge before you? instead of before her? If the speech wasnt directed to the Queen, then it would make sense if Sulayman and his councillors were talking among themselves since the Ayah started with 'We'. And then the dialogue closes after the word 'Muslimeen'. Then Allah continued, saying the next verse (43), like a narrator towards the reader. Just my opinion. Other translators seem to think that it was the Queen who said, "We have been given knowledge even before knowing this miracle, and we (she and her people) had already submitted to Allah's will. Not everyone would agree to this. Tq again brother. I'm learning a lot, even tho I dont speak arabic.
