What are your thoughts on some of these diamonds coming from the great pressures created by meteorite impacts? (I’m talking huge impact events such as the type that wiped out the dinosaurs, not regular meteorite falls!) You mentioned the inclusions are iron and nickel and that they can be magnetic - this is the same as meteoritic iron.
I'd like to help you as you've helped me.I've collected many large llb along with many large portions of the break offs.At the collection spot,also are many metal nuggets.including tin,zinc,copper,iron,and I'm hoping au.
Great presentation! Thank you. I would have asked 'why' do you you think so many of these deep, large diamonds are so clean and white? (Is there an absence of N at those depths?) And why should they achieve such great sizes at those depths; is it something in the nature of the tremendous pressure at depth, and/or time at depth that possibly contributed to their longer growth? I'm amazed they survive the stress of a 400 mile trip to the surface, too! Is there any conjecture on how large these large diamonds could conceivably get? A 10,000 ct. stone, or more? Hi E.R.: First let’s consider the more general question, “why do these diamonds look different?”. In general, the size, clarity, and color of these “big” diamonds are different from most other diamonds. They stand out as being unusual. These unusual diamonds have actually formed in a geologically distinct way. It’s not just that they have formed deeper in the Earth. The chemical process of making the diamonds is different too. In other words, nature has used a totally different “recipe” to make these diamonds. Nature has a few different recipes to produce diamond, each with different ranges of characteristics. These “big” diamonds probably grew in little pockets of molten metal, which would change all sorts of variables for crystal growth. This liquid meta is a good place to grow big, high quality crystals. Diamonds the size of basketballs are probably not very realistic, but sizes certainly reach a few inches across, like the 3106 carat Cullinan. Sincerely, Evan M. Knowledge based on assumptions can be misleading. While FACTS in which you have discovered are incredible to the truth that 32 of your diamonds are of celestial origin those containing FE and NI ARE FROM SPACE NOT EARTH. Does that make it a bit more realistic You have uncovered what I have been trying to tell them for years. GREAT JOB
