I will say also my bad habits dont help either i wish i never drove stick cause its hurting me now. I have to break the bad habit keep shoving clutch all way down and keeping had on shifter bad habits.
I got my license too but reading your comment reminded me of my expierence I ended up switching schools because of it not everyone is meant to teach @@lammy9733
I'm having this same struggle right now during training. We just got out on the road for the first time this week. These videos really help explaining the correct procedures.
I am learning everything about upshifting and downshifting. I started driving on the street recently. I am a student with FedEx freight. I feel my upshifting is good as the truck gains speed. When I start with low gears at the lights or stop signs I grind all kinds. I have subscribed to your channel. Thanks for sharing and the tips.
I’m an instructor out in LA, man do I understand this guy. PATIENCE IS KEY! Also, I’ve learned a lot from watching his videos on how to explain to students how to double clutch, down shift and where their rpm’s need to be.
Once you get 8-12 months under your belt this procedure will become smoother n more natural I am speaking of my own experience I had a super instructor He said relax and listen to me he said you will do this correctly because I can trane any one remember practice practice no one learns at the same pace as your buddy study that shift pattern until you can visualize it in your mind these trucks are not synchronized like a modern car that is what the double clutch method is about remember the accelerator Or foot feed and clutch do not go together or you will grind gears which is dangerous and can break teeth or cogs off the gears timing your shift movements is critical never take eyes away from road n mirrors the stick and pedals are not leaving the cab you shift by sound n feel that is how I was taught he put tape over the tachometer and said listen to the engine and feel what the vehicle is communicating to you threw the wheel floor n stick when I drove for consolidated freight ways they did not equip their trucks with tachometers or power steering Always start out in the lowest possible gear until you get comfortable and when you do hang up your gloves and quit then surrender your license back to the state because you are dangerous seriously you never want to get comfortable with one of these 40 ton death traps it will know and say to itself now I’m going to kill him or her you don’t play with me buddy
Wow you are so patient my instructor through his head at me and it went right out the window that's how pissed he was LMFAO 🤣 NOW I DRIVE AN 18 SPEED KW 👍
Currently in CDL school and I’ve only gotten into R, 1st, and 4th on the semis here. I’m ready to shift well and control my truck next week on the road!
I think my main problem on down shifting is idk wen to start down shifting so by the time I get to the light I’m rushing myself to downshift to 6 but I end up in 7th gear I just don’t wana drive too slow cus I know driving to slow is impeding traffic
@@ACETruckKing sounds good my friend so i should just stay in 7th if i feel like i wont have enough time to get it into 6th ... if my vehicle does not completely stop becus the light turns green when i get to the intersection can i continue forward without stalling the engine in 7th gear ?
Dios bendiga tu paciencia, eh cogido clases con varios instructores y en ves de ayudar te ponen más nerviosos, gracias por tus vídeos son de gran ayuda.
I think it’s useful to explain the WHEN and WHY, about why they shouldn’t push the clutch all the way down. It’s because the clutch brake is used when coming to a stop or starting from a stop, when moving the gears need to be moving, so you don’t push the clutch all the way down while moving because it stops the gears, you push all the way down when the vehicle is not in motion.
I had the same problem last week of depressing the clutch to deep on the 10 speed transmission as our 18 speed had a very high clutch and it broke down. I watched your video on a student who started badly but recovered well. It helped me in terms of recovery from (1) Downshifting (2) recovering from lost gears(3)Being in control of the vehicle. Thanks 🙏🏽
Once you master the shifting up and down the down shift is more important than the up shift my instructor use to say he wish he had a way to put us behind the wheel at highway speed in top gear and then start the training But once you learn you can operate without the clutch in level terrain not hill country or mountains bobtailing or empty trailer I take off in 3rd go to 4th pull-up the range valve go to 6th 8th then 10th and the same on the down shift practice practice practice the 10 speed is excellent it can be your best friend don’t be afraid to apply yourself with other gear boxes as well hone all of your skills with pride backing and turning a good way I discovered to learn skip shifting is on a old Mack R model with a 5 speed maxi torque if you can find someone to illustrate that concept you really got to drop those RPMs to shift it is slower starting out takes more planning on driving style good for the city you do not down shift these more then one gear 5th to 4th a completely different driving style to much down shifting on these can mess up the up shifting but a very rugged triple counter shaft gear box worth learning and can help with skipping gears on a multi speed progressive shift transmission think positive on all your training crave it embrace it respect it and your self smile in the mirror everyday prettrip your self every day as well as your equipment take care of your physical and mental health you run the truck do not let this job run you
@@ACETruckKing I bet you do! I've got 42 years experience on synchronized transmissions, to include performance cars and stock cars and now in week 2 of driving at CDL school. Soooooo different and so many habits to break/relearn new ones. LOL Driving the "struggle bus."
At the end of the video you asked him why he is giving it gas , since I am just starting truck school I know why he was doing it , when you downshift you rev up a little into the next lower gear , since he knew he had to rev up to downshift he was doing that , the problem was he was still in the higher gear
Manny Silva his problem was that he was giving gas after he downshifted to lower gear. You should gas only while on neutral to engage the next lower gear.
I struggled with the concept of clutching vs brake-clutching. Instructor never explained what the clutch-brake was (he never even called it a clutch-brake, I only learned that here, thanks). All he said was 'don't push the clutch in too far.' Then when I did that at the traffic lights he said 'clutch all the way in.' So I was left not understanding how the clutch mechanism worked. Very frustrating to learn here that my instructor never even mentioned it, just got annoyed with me when I was 'doing it wrong.' Thanks for the vids.
