Man.. I just came across your videos today and binge watching them…. Extremely rare to find such high quality, short to the point and well explained for a layperson Thank you, I will be one of you regular watcher …
Hi Dr. Bricker, can you explain how hospitals set up their "charge master" for pricing of individual line items. Let me know if I can provide more clarfication.
When we are At the doctor for 2 hrs (waiting room and empty room) then we talk to doc for 2 min and he rushes out leaves you in the empty room again then your released and charged $125 with no answer to the cause of the problem and given pills that don’t stop the pain. HOW IS THAT JUSTIFIED? The same thing was done at the Er Christmas Day , charged $680 and sent hom with naproxen and no answer to the problem. I’m 55 yrs old and I remember when the doctor gave you time they knew you and stayed in the same place. Now…. I can’t understand half the people trying to ask me questions and I swear they act like they don’t give damn about you. There’s a reason they have to put those sign up that say “it’s a felony to assault a health care worker” that’s guilt! They know they are doing you a disservice. Heath care is not a guessing game. If you don’t fix the problem then you didn’t do your job. If a mechanic is paid to fix my car and he don’t he works on it again for nothing. The over all give a damn factor in healthcare is gone. When I work on a car I don’t charge for every tool I use. I charge for the time it takes the best average skilled mechanic to do that job. I can’t charge more than that by law. If I use a tool that lets me do that job faster then that just benefits me , saves time, and lets me get to more jobs but I still have to have that car diagnosed and fixed within that time. You don’t care that the problem itself is fixed even after you charged me for the use of all your tools. Doctors, Pharma, Insurance and lawyers are majorly responsible for this decline in the quality of service now days. It’s like night and day. You can’t fool us seniors, we were there!
Thank you for letting me know. I corrected the source link. It is now a Vimeo video from a Health Catalyst conference discussing Activity-Based Cost Accounting.

Reverse engineered to maximize billed charges and resulting reimbursement through commercial insurance contracts.

Thank you. Appreciate you taking the time to comment!
It’s a mess! Single payer. Get rid of the insurance skimmers! Less expensive healthcare, better result. Let’s be like all other western democracies.
