  • This is a favourite spot of ours, perfect for snorkelling and for little ones. I’ve been coming here since I was little.
A family on a kayak tapped us on the backs, told us there was a Grey Seal just behind us! We calmly floated round, and there it was! Perfect opportunity to teach my little girl about respecting wild animals, we observed and made no effort to follow. It kept circling back to us, hugging me and landing on my back! One of the most amazing experiences of my life.
Once we were out of the bay, the Seal kept popping back up every now and again, roughly the same spot, it almost looked like it was a bathing.

Amayzing, I am always slightly wary in the water with Grey's, but think I need to overcome this!!

It’s a lovely spot to snorkel, it’s one of the very few places a rare seaweed grows, peacocks tail. Look out for it 👍🏻

That is amazing. I've seen them fairly close when paddleboarding buy this is something else. Not sure how I would feel if it got on my back! Tremendous experience.

This is so cool! I need to get myself some snorkel gear!
Any areas in Dorset you would recommend for snorkeling? I'm local to the area but never done snorkeling before.
And what would the minimum gear I'd need?
Guessing a snorkel and some flippers 😂

      Hi Callum!
Snorkel, mask, fins, wetsuit (suit/boots/gloves/hood- in colder water!) if you’re not to great at swimming buoyancy aid. Tell people where you’re going, or better always go with a buddy. Kimmeridge is great as has a snorkel trial this time of year. Durdle door (but go to the eastern side, Man of War - that rock is great!) and the door it’s self. Swanage pier is beautiful, just watch for boats/divers. If you go to Tynham Village, walk down to Warborrow Bay - you can only get there by boat of walking from Tynham, beautiful little cove with caves on your left/east before you get down to Warborrow. Studland/Old Harry Rocks - nice for sea grass and might spot some sea horses!
