    I bought the Evox 8 a few years back and now have done a lot of gigs with it (1 man, vocals, guitars and backing tracks) and it’s amazing. Ideal for what I do and the bars, venues I play. And I’ve never found it lacking. Quality, size, portability and sound of course …..100% 👌

    both are for .... small venues. Not an optimal choice for live. But the EVOX 8 it sounds more clear ( mids and highs ) than EVOX 12. In reality and also here in youtube. The difference is huge. So, I don't understand what you hear but it's so clear, even for unexperimental ears. This clearance spectrum it's the most important detail for a quality sound test. It's to easy to have a low end nice or a low mid frequency but... a real clear mid and a real high definition ( without any distorsions ) it's the big challenge. So, no doubt........EVOX 8 !

    i used the evox 8 for years, just bought jmix 8 and j8 combo. Why? space reasons. If you can afford the larger evox 12s and handle the extra weight plus have the room. You cant go wrong with evox 12s. Most of my events are under 200 people so the JMIX, J8 combo is fine for me. I may add one of those tiny EV subs in the future.

    Thanks. Really enjoyed your comparison as I've been deliberating between these 2 systems.
    There is quite a significant price difference though definitely will pursue 2 of the Evox 12 for a Live Rock band.
    Also have the impression that the Evox 12 could be too big for smaller short throw situations as it seems to need a certain minimal distance compared to the Evox 8? You've helped dispel that concern as well with is great.
    I feel the 15 is way more appropriate for a live kick drum and bass guitar hence, the inclination towards the Evox 12.
    It was very helpful to visualise the size differences as well!

    Hey Mo Joe - I'm done with my QSC K.12.2s no matter how much I EQ them the highs sound so harsh - almost distorted when I crank it up. For the price - I think 4 J8s may be a better value instead of 2 Evox 12s. Curious on your opinion.

    • @djmojoeofficial
      @djmojoeofficial  2 года назад +1

      Yea I agree with you. At high volumes the QSC didn’t sound as good. I think the 4 J8s would be better for more sound coverage and you can spread them out more. I think the EVOX 12s would be good just for dance floor. For me, what ends up happening is that I would use the EVOX 12s for the dance floor and 2 smaller speakers on the sides/back of the room for more coverage

      I disagree on a couple things. I would use my qsc system over evox any day. The evox system is good, but it just doesn’t bang like two k12s and two qsc subs. I’ve used them both, and the qsc system really bumps compared to evox.
      Secondly, I know a guy who uses 4 column speakers, to make up for the lack of bass, and coverage, and it looks horrible!!! Looks like speakers on sale in a showroom. It looks really really bad, tacky.

      I bought an Evox 5 in June 2018. I used it for small venues, it was great. I sold it and bought the Evox 8. I have a regular weekend gig in my local pub every Friday and Saturday night. The acoustics in the pub are terrible but the Evox 8 still has lots of headroom if needed. I only really drive the unit at around half power. The volume on the back of the Evox 8 is set to 4 o' clock. My master faders on my mixer are set to -5db. The Stereo fader is set to around halfway up. So I still have LOTS of umph to give the Evox 8 if needed. I was wondering whether to sell the 8 and buy the 12....but on reflection, they both have the same 1400 watt amp fitted, so I might just buy another Evox 8. That means 2 x 12" bass drivers (total of 24"), and 16 x 2" drivers (total of 32" speaker). Plus I'll have 2800 watts to play with!!

  • @13bcoffee

    I have the Evox 8. I need a rig for a 1 man operation. I also have a RCF sub from my previous rig. Good thing that i kept it. The Evox 8 hits the limiter with loud House or Hip Hop music. When I have that type of gig I take a sub and xover to the J8's . That really takes a load off of the Evox 8 and I get my hard hitting bass.

I’m having second thoughts, they sound great but feel I can’t get them loud enough and being that my mic/voice is not loud enough is disappointing. I had high hopes for these but feel let down. I am not a DJ, so I don't need that deep bass DJ's use, usually our bass player uses a 4 strings or 5 strings instruments which does not produce notes so low, concentrating as a Latin band with more of mid ranges and vocals the bass is at the end a link between percussion and harmony, and where I love and work now in Spain, there are regulations that don't allow even in a public space outside to get more than 90dB by law.

      @@thelatinensemble4670 agree with you about the bass, the beauty of the system is it's portability and simplicity of set up, I don't personally have an Evox set, I have a similar set from db Technologies , they are great little sets, I use it for buisness meetings, work party's, kid's party's and other small events, I still feel though 200 people is a lot of people for such a small set, maybe a good idea to see if it's possible to hire a set out first and see how it goes before investing in a set, the Evox is qaulity gear and though not super expensive, it would be a shame to invest in a set and find out it's not giving you what you looked for, the Evox 12 would definetly be a better choice, but they are considerably more expensive, try before you buy is I think the best advice.

      Hard to say, it really depends on the acoustics of the room and what will sound great. The EVOX 8s are great for a dance floor 100-200 in my opinion, and can't go wrong if you add more low end with an extra subwoofer. But if you're in a big room, weirdly shape room, or echoed room you would definitely need more speakers so that way it all sounds clear for your guests.

    I'd like to see a comparison with typical high performance PA speakers and a sub versus any of the EVOX form factor. Lets say for comparison even the large one EVOX12, aiming for a 130db peak, the 12" Yorkville Parasouce PS12P pole mounted on a PS15S sub should be more capable outdoors at distance. The RCF and Yorkville subs should have similar capability being both 15". But the PS12P 12" woofer and a 12"x9" horn has much more surface area than the 8x 4" full range in the EVOX12. This means that the more compact PS12P should couple with more air and sound fuller at distance. I'm sure the EVOX12 sound great though but I never heard any EVOX setups in person! I use 2 x PS12P and 2 x PS15P and its the strongest sound I've ever heard for a small portable system outdoor. EVOX 12 is also twice the cost.

    its not a fair comparison, you are talking about a 15" sub with 8 top elements 4" and 130 db with 1400w peak against a 12" sub with 8 tops 2", 128db so sure the evox 12 would win, i think a good comparison would be the couple of evox 12 with a couple of 735 mk4, the mk4 have 133db (i think), with a 3" driver but it lacks the low range of the evox12, and why im saying this? because i cant decide if i want to keep my pair of 735 mk4 or replace them with a couple of evox 12 :)

      Hi Mike! I’m now using a new system from BassBoss, the SV9 top and the BB15 sub. Sounds so much better than the EVOX 12. So much smoother and the low end is very satisfying. I don’t know anyone around my area that has the 735 to do a comparison. Wish you the best

  • @frankperry3133
    @frankperry3133 2 года назад +2

    Yes, but the evox 12 is designed completely differently and cannot be compared at all with the j8. It certainly sounds wider, but not as much as the price suggests.

    what's the difference between the Evox 8 and Evox J8? very confusing.

    • @djmojoeofficial
      @djmojoeofficial  2 года назад

      The EVOX 8 uses wood, the J8 doesn’t. The J8s have a white speaker option, the EVOX 8 doesn’t or just very hard to find. The J8’s shape is slightly different from the EVOX 8, the EVOX 8 is more square and less rounded than the J8. The J8 also have a Jmix8 that have a built-in mixer. The EVOX 8 doesn’t.

      @djmojoeofficial  3 года назад

      Hi Michael, depends on the room size. 2 Evox 12s would be amazing for the dance floor. But depending on the size of the room and if there are any dead spots in the room where guests are sitting, it's good to have some sound reinforcement so they can hear the speeches and music. Similar to a club where everywhere you go, you can hear the music. And with speaker reinforcement, you have more control of the sound at specific areas of the room.

      Not too many lines to give you an idea, as DJ MoJoe I had a couple of QSC k12, with a pair of subs Mackie. Sold them all and purchased 2 sets of Bose F12 with the subs. That was the worst decision I ever made!. Same venues, so the constant were the places, did the first gig that regularly is a Havana Night on Thursdays in an outdoor hotel, Bose don't have the same power to reach the 200 average people, a few day after the not so good first gig I was booked with a 7 guys band to play for the Mayor of Miami Beach for a 300 people in a ballroom, that was worse! when the place was with that crowd one of the speakers just shut down because the inevitable clipping (when one K12 was in comfort zone at that level). I have decided to sell everything, even 4 Bose S1Pro that were used as floor monitors.
      The good thing was my daughter was an employee for a Bose Store, so I have paid 50% less for everything, at the time of getting the money I got much more than I spent and of course less that the brand new value, but enough to buy again a pair of K12.2 with subs. As DJMoJoe I am deciding but definitively get the Evox.. the problem is what I want and what I can afford... Already sold the QSC's and the subs, and managing which ones I will get.

      2 Evox 8s would have more sound coverage than 1 EVOX 12 because you'll have 2 sound point sources if you spread the EVOX 8s. You only get one sound point source if you just use 1 EVOX 12. Personally, I like it when I hear music left and right, then just one area

    ruclips.net/video/USveu11HWh0/видео.html We call the system Quad Sonic by placing 4 systems in a square 200 ft away from eachother ? if you do that my friend, you get just one small sweetspot in the middle and everywhere else in that square you'll hear a bounce back. The Evox series have no build in delay filter, but even if so, you'll have to put them in a different position if you want to cover a square of 200ft.
