You're not thinking straight - The setup program doesn't replace the NET Framework with an older version, both can exist on Windows 10, 8.1 or 7, sometimes third party software like antivirus even install a 3rd version, there's nothing wrong with that (apart the time it takes to download and install)... Whatever the case Windows will always use the latest version, the 3.5 is only used by Elgato Software...

Hello. Good video. I just tried using the Video Capture on my 1st Sony 8mm video tape using my Sony Camcorder. All worked good. The only thing I noticed is that the color richness and brightness on the captured video does not match what I see when I look at the orginal 8mm tape by looking through the viewfinder (or when playing back to my tv). I contacted them and they said you have to play with the VIDEO settings BEFORE you START to RECORD. That would mean testing settings. Do you or anyone here know what would be good for default video settings as opposed to them all being "0" as default? Has anyone else noticed this too?
Please note, the Elgato Video Capture does NOT work with a new Mac. If you go to About This Mac, and it says M1 or M2, which is the latest Mac technology, it's not compatible. Frustratingly, I just learned that from Elgato's customer service representative.
Nice explained, but you've succeeded at the first try (once the software was installed). I wasn't so lucky! Video capture freezes in matter of seconds, same version as you (1.15) and same device.
VHS tapes look great on my combo TV - VCR but when I copy them using the Elgato device, the resolution is extremely poor in comparison. Using RCA cables. TV does not have S video option. Any ideas?
I just ordered one to record my old camcorders. EasyCap always gave me an issue of crashing my computer, and I had to restart my PC just to get it working. Judging from this video, I have high hopes with this capture card because the final product is .mp4 with a low file size. Oh yeah, one of the issues with EasyCap was the inability to record audio at a good quality. Thanks for this!

For the last 6 months iam using Elgato Usb Video capture device for Video cassette (vhs) to dvd conversion, some time Elgato capture device is generating small noice on recorded videos like horizontal small squire lines. I dont know how its fix ;-) Np: the video noice only show in vhs cassette conversion time.

I have been having this issue too, it's a pain. At first i thought it was audio lag but then i realised there is small parts of the footage which speeds up super quick with the audio still going at normal pace and then footage goes back at normal speed leaving everything out of sync however it was all playing normally when watching it during the recording proccess, anyway not sure if this is what you have been having
Herok Beats I actually went on my Windows 10 and did Windows updates, I’m seeing better results now. You gotta keep your computer whether it’s windows 10 or Mac updated. At least, for me it worked out.

I don't think it really would matter... For some reason Microsoft is funny like that.., You would have thought that .NET versions would be rolled up, just like service packs are. Last thing anyone needs is a whole bunch of ..NET versions installed based on x software needed.. Lie would be so much simpler if you could just install 4.5 .Net and it "included" all others, but i guess MS has to make that different.

I'm considering buying this gizmo. I have three different capture devices and neither can do nice NTSC files, two are total rubbish and the other bought from a California based company has no colour, and won't reply to 'Support' help.
None of the devices should require a software download. If it converts to digital like DSLRs. Then you should be able to plug it straight into the USB and go direct into the edit program you use to download from your modern camera.
Terrible product, I have everything plugged in the right place, installed the drivers and the Software but I have a loud buzzing sound and I don't know how to remove it. I bought to record my PS1/2 Gameplays and it doesn't work properly. I'm on desktop with Windows 10. I also tried with my laptop and the problem continues.
What options were there in terms of output formats...are you able to select de-interlacing and if so can you select the field order of the source material? Is it just 480p output or does it output 576p if the video source is PAL? For PAL source material the frame rate is 25...can this be set or is it fixed at 30fps?
I used some 20/30€ (25/35$) capture devices but found they use the same software with a lot of settings and some of them does not work properly. Is the quality of the capture of the Elgato so much better that it worths the 99€? Thanks
It keeps saying "Connect the Elgato video capture hardware to a USB 2.0 port" I already plugged it in a usb 2.0 port and tried different ports. Is there a solution for this?
I ordered mine and on the way. Regarding the length of movie to set it for. I have no idea how long movies are. So let’s say the recording is 56 minutes. If I manually set it for say 200 minutes. Will it record the 200 minutes and stop? Do I have option to stop while watching at the actual length? Do I have the option to trim wasted recording space back to the end of the video? I do not want the pre-watch any of these vhs tapes and make timing notes as should take forever. Advice please and thx.
Yes, if it's set for 200 minutes, it will stop after 200. I would test this out first with a 2 minute clip make sure the software works the same way as it did when I recorded this video. Yes, you can stop the recording at any point. No, there is no way to edit the video and trim wasted space in the version I have but that may have changed over the years. There are free video editing tools out there or even already installed on your computer ("Movie Editor" on Windows) to help with trimming. Hope this helps.

On my box it said it included the software. When opening the box, it wasn't there. Instead, there was a message about downloading it from the website. I go to the website, and then don't know what's going on there - like with so many options.

When I play the video tape, the picture doesn't appear properly on the laptop monitor. It would display like 2 big blocks, at top left and bottom right. This would be for a few seconds, then normal picture for a few seconds, then back for a few seconds. I'm using Windows 8. Maybe it's the laptop itself.
I've just bought this but unfortunately my VCR only has 2 RCA holes so I can only hear the audio of the video, not the picture. My pack didn't come with the adapter - would a SCART Adaptor AV Block To 3 RCA Phono Composite S-Video With In/Out Switch rectify this so I can plug in all 3 RCAs into the Scart adapter? Many thanks
It seems odd that the VCR has right and left audio but no video. What colors are the ports? Could they be video and mono audio? Is S-Video the only option for video-out? What is the model number of the VCR?

I tried the Elgato with these 2 plugged in and I only get the audio of the video with no picture. I'm not sure about the S-Video but will do a video of the back of the video to show you shortly. The VCR is a Sony SLV-SE70UX
I checked out the manual for your VCR and I have never seem one with no RCA Video out. The aerial video out allows a cable or antenna flow through, into and the out of the VRC. Very interesting. To use this video capture card, you would need to convert the RG6 (coaxial) to RCA. It might be cheaper to buy a VRC on eBay.

I've been looking at other VCRs on eBay and it seems quite a few only have 2 RCA ports on the back. Sorry if this is a stupid question but some VCRs I've seen have 3 Video In RCA ports on the front - would it work if I plug the Elgato VIdeo Capture into these or does it have to be VIdeo Out ports? Have to be careful downloading and installing drivers and sofetware....Usually on the software side, you should look carefully, to uncheck a box, such as including another software program, like that framework, and how it seemed to switch you to microsoft edge!! These pricks can be tricky at times
I first transferred my ten (!) VHS tapes, using Elgato, onto my MacBook Pro desktop. I moved the first into iMovie to cut and edit it, as there are a few scenarios on that tape. The tape comes in one block rather than in individual clips; this makes it very difficult to edit. What are suggestions for editing? Thanks.
It's not gonna know the individual clips because it just records what you feed it. I suggest you scrub through, make cut points, and export out each clip if you need them seperate
I've been using this and the transfer process is esay and it looks great in the preview window. I've found though when you go to playback the actual file that there are some audio-syncing issues which are really jarring and make this product some what shitty. IS there any way around this?
I know it has been a while since your comment but the solution is to convert you captured video with the software called 'Handbrake' but before you convert go to the video tab in the program and choose constant framerate
Can this device capture the Title Screen or Main Menu Screen on a DVD??? I'm not sure if that is the official name for it but the menu screen on a DVD that repeats until you start the movie or video.
I’ve tried a few of these and have found an issue with the recorded audio going out of sync with the video. Has anyone experienced this with this product or is if trouble free. Thanks

I see when you did this it asked the time of the movie. I wanted to start recording some videos on my old Nintendo consoles ( GameCube, Wii etc ) . But can I just start recording and click end when I’m done? Cause I wanna make them for RUclips but I don’t wanna just put 2 hours and edit
That doesn't sound good. Have you verified there is video coming from the source with another device? Also, were they any errors when installing software?
Late reply but: The yellow is video and the black is mono audio. You can hook that one to either the red or white input. Test them both because one might work better than the other.
Good instructions but I have one question. At the back of my my VCR player, I only have the red and white slots. I dont have the third yellow one. sorry for the question but I am not a technical person but really want to transfer my old VHS cassettes to the computer. I then want to transfer them to DVDs. is there a tutorial for that. would really appreciate any answers. I also have camcorder tapes that I want to transfer to DVDs
Sounds like your VCR might have an antenna flow through port (coax) for the video. I'm not sure if this would work with the capture card. You might be better off finding a VCR on eBay with the 3 RCA ports. I do not have a tutorial for transferring files to DVD. Keep in mind that DVDs are also losing popularity and could become obsolete in the coming years.
I just got my Elgato Video Capture but after installation on PC or laptop in doesnt recognize it. What should I do? I tried unistalling, restarting, plugin in all kinds of USB ports

The capture card doesn't perform any functions to change the image quality. Is the image should be exactly as the source is producing. Is the image still blurry when connected using the same cables to a TV?
Could the issue be the source video that has flickering colors? Can you confirm by connecting the source video to a TV, or try a different source through the capture device?
Anyone having problems with the output video color? When I'm capturing vhs tape video from an old Panasonic camera, I only have one vertical stripe with color close to the left edge of the screen, the rest is mostly black and white. When I capture video directly from that camera's lens, the colors are all fine. Also, when I play that same vhs tape video from camera to the tv, the colors are fine. Could it be the old camera?
If the colors are ok from the camera to a TV, then they should be ok from the camera to the video capture card. Do you have another tape to try or a different method of playing the tape and capturing the output?

No, you need separate software. It might be possible through Windows 10 (for free). Maybe start there.

Tried it and it works with movie videos but does'nt work with my old family videos - all I can hear is the sound.

Are you seeing any errors under Device Manger in the USB section?

It did manage to download it previously, but then didn't work.

When I play the video tape, the picture doesn't appear properly on the laptop monitor. It would display like 2 big blocks, at top left and bottom right. This would be for a few seconds, then normal picture for a few seconds, then back for a few seconds.
I'm using Windows 8. Maybe it's the laptop itself.

I've just bought this but unfortunately my VCR only has 2 RCA holes so I can only hear the audio of the video, not the picture. My pack didn't come with the adapter - would a SCART Adaptor AV Block To 3 RCA Phono Composite S-Video With In/Out Switch rectify this so I can plug in all 3 RCAs into the Scart adapter? Many thanks
It seems odd that the VCR has right and left audio but no video. What colors are the ports? Could they be video and mono audio? Is S-Video the only option for video-out? What is the model number of the VCR?
@@HomeTechDIY Many thanks for your reply. The port colours are red and white (marked Audio Out R/D and L/G). I tried the Elgato with these 2 plugged in and I only get the audio of the video with no picture. I'm not sure about the S-Video but will do a video of the back of the video to show you shortly. The VCR is a Sony SLV-SE70UX
I checked out the manual for your VCR and I have never seem one with no RCA Video out. The aerial video out allows a cable or antenna flow through, into and the out of the VRC. Very interesting. To use this video capture card, you would need to convert the RG6 (coaxial) to RCA. It might be cheaper to buy a VRC on eBay.

I've been looking at other VCRs on eBay and it seems quite a few only have 2 RCA ports on the back. Sorry if this is a stupid question but some VCRs I've seen have 3 Video In RCA ports on the front - would it work if I plug the Elgato VIdeo Capture into these or does it have to be VIdeo Out ports? Have to be careful downloading and installing drivers and sofetware....Usually on the software side, you should look carefully, to uncheck a box, such as including another software program, like that framework, and how it seemed to switch you to microsoft edge!! These pricks can be tricky at times
Why does it ask what audio product I have when trying to download the software? Do I have to buy one of theirs?

I first transferred my ten (!) VHS tapes, using Elgato, onto my MacBook Pro desktop. I moved the first into iMovie to cut and edit it, as there are a few scenarios on that tape. The tape comes in one block rather than in individual clips; this makes it very difficult to edit. What are suggestions for editing? Thanks.
It's not gonna know the individual clips because it just records what you feed it. I suggest you scrub through, make cut points, and export out each clip if you need them seperate

I've been using this and the transfer process is esay and it looks great in the preview window. I've found though when you go to playback the actual file that there are some audio-syncing issues which are really jarring and make this product some what shitty. IS there any way around this?
I know it has been a while since your comment but the solution is to convert you captured video with the software called 'Handbrake' but before you convert go to the video tab in the program and choose constant framerate

You can connect the video capture device directly to the camcorder.
What happens if the VCR only has a yellow and red port and no white?
That means you will only get one audio channel, not stereo. If you've been using that VCR all along, you have only been hearing mono sound.
Can this device capture the Title Screen or Main Menu Screen on a DVD??? I'm not sure if that is the official name for it but the menu screen on a DVD that repeats until you start the movie or video.
Yes, this device will capture everything that is displayed on the screen.

Hey HomeTechDIY, i did install the driver and software, my VHS seems to work correctly with the TV, but when I connected it to my laptop and use Elgato's soft I get the "no signal" prompt - any tips/ idea what can this be about? how to solve this? thx in advance
Hey, what do you mean when you say you connect the VHS to your laptop? Are you connecting the VHS to your laptop or to the video capture card?
I see when you did this it asked the time of the movie. I wanted to start recording some videos on my old Nintendo consoles ( GameCube, Wii etc ) . But can I just start recording and click end when I’m done? Cause I wanna make them for RUclips but I don’t wanna just put 2 hours and edit
It makes you put in a timeframe but you can override that when you start recording.

Late reply but: The yellow is video and the black is mono audio. You can hook that one to either the red or white input. Test them both because one might work better than the other.
Good instructions but I have one question. At the back of my my VCR player, I only have the red and white slots. I dont have the third yellow one. sorry for the question but I am not a technical person but really want to transfer my old VHS cassettes to the computer. I then want to transfer them to DVDs. is there a tutorial for that. would really appreciate any answers. I also have camcorder tapes that I want to transfer to DVDs
Sounds like your VCR might have an antenna flow through port (coax) for the video. I'm not sure if this would work with the capture card. You might be better off finding a VCR on eBay with the 3 RCA ports. I do not have a tutorial for transferring files to DVD. Keep in mind that DVDs are also losing popularity and could become obsolete in the coming years.

I just got my Elgato Video Capture but after installation on PC or laptop in doesnt recognize it. What should I do? I tried unistalling, restarting, plugin in all kinds of USB ports
Did you see any errors when installing the software? Does the device show up under USBs in Device Manager?

Yes, as long as you have RCA/composite or S-Video outputs on the camcorder and VCR.
if i have a sony camcorder with the 120 vhs tapes do I need the vcr player to transfer?
If your camcorder has RCA out, you can use those to connect to the USB device instead of using the VCR.

The capture card doesn't perform any functions to change the image quality. Is the image should be exactly as the source is producing. Is the image still blurry when connected using the same cables to a TV?
my Elgato capture card is flickering on the colors
Could the issue be the source video that has flickering colors? Can you confirm by connecting the source video to a TV, or try a different source through the capture device?

Anyone having problems with the output video color? When I'm capturing vhs tape video from an old Panasonic camera, I only have one vertical stripe with color close to the left edge of the screen, the rest is mostly black and white. When I capture video directly from that camera's lens, the colors are all fine. Also, when I play that same vhs tape video from camera to the tv, the colors are fine. Could it be the old camera?

If the colors are ok from the camera to a TV, then they should be ok from the camera to the video capture card. Do you have another tape to try or a different method of playing the tape and capturing the output?

I believe it does up to 1080p, depending on the source.
