- 17 October 2013: A singing blue whale was recorded by an Ocean Sonics icListen low frequency hydrophone deployed at 2662m depth in Cascadia Basin. The audio has been sped up by a factor of 10 to make it audible, as blue whale sounds are subsonic (below the range of human hearing).

Singing the blues?
So calming
It's beautiful.
This sounds like me crying in slow motion
lol dont cry you are pretty T_T
if i hear this in ocean im gonna freak out!
You likely wouldn't hear any of this. Most blue whale vocalisations are below the range of human hearing. Some higher pitch calls might be heard as a deep rumble if you pay close attention. This video is sped up about 10 times to make it more easily audible.
@@xxfalconarasxx5659 i love music with deep bass (and animals) and i have a waterproof speaker and the bass is so painful (you can feel it) that i think that if you were to experience a 10hz call, you would most definitely feel it.
@@OGShadowShard How it feels to chew five gum:
(Eardrums ripped by 10hz call)
Chew five gum, simulate your senses.
Why would u be "in ocean" anyway?
WE ARE ALL WHALES INSIDE AND OUT FULLY INSTANTLY AND FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you played elephants deep sounds to blue whales, would they hear them? And vice versa, could elephants hear blue whale sounds?
Margaret Clarke Blue whales generally produce sound between 15Hz and 40Hz.
Apparently, elephants can produce sound between 5Hz and 9kHz (9,000Hz), and their lowest frequency calls, called “rumbles,” typically have a fundamental frequency between 5Hz and 30Hz, though may have harmonics up to or greater than 600Hz.
So, it is reasonable to assume that blue whales could hear infrasonic elephant vocalizations if played to them, because they communicate within the same frequency range. However, they may not be able to hear higher frequency elephant calls or the higher frequency harmonics of low frequency elephant calls.

Thnks. I hadn't thought of the harmonics. My music theory is a bit weak there. I did have the idea that whales are descended from some sea creature in the back of my mind.
Margaret Clarke I'm not fact checking atm, but I think whales/dolphins are descended from land mammals, who were both, at some point before both in the tree, descended from sea creatures.
If we continue to cause global warming, pollution, and hunt these amazing animals, this will never be heard again. Stop damaging the environment. Show some compassion for these animals
Tell that to the Japanese, their known for whaling
Who the fuck is hunting blue whales
Luke Stein I find your lack of intellect disturbing
traubster Japan and Norway
@Luke Stein don't do drugs
omg that sound scary

I love animals so much in have 4 dogs and a cat
Pathetic.
lol thank you the feeling is mutual
A menos que seas bonita :v
Oh how I love whales. Has anyone ever listen to the song Farewell to Twathie by Judy Collins?
Do the speed on 0.25x the sound look like a alien 👽 sound
WE HAVE NO METABOLISM INSIDE AND OUT INSTANTLY AND FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is the microphone receiving the sound the whales makes, similar in mechanics to how the whale's ears hear (or however they perceive this sound)? I mean what we hear is the result of our ears, not whale's ears.
While the mechanics of the hydrophone (underwater microphone) are significantly different than that of a marine mammal’s ears, both will detect pressure waves (sounds) in the water and translate / convert them into electrical impulses.
Dis song scary
Just like the challenge
Jeez when I was hearing I thought Jonathan Galindo was right behind me and bat to take my life
Hi! how many times did you speed up this record?
Samir Castillo ups! i respond to myself: 10X
I make the same exact sound when I step on a lego.
Does anybody have real time recordings on RUclips of this? My speakers will reproduce it. And if they don't, my headphones will.
There is a real time recording of the 52 Hz Whale, which is theorised to be a Blue Whale hybrid, so that's the second best thing.

Sound Kinda Like The Bloop
OMG
ربي لا تذرني فردا وانت خير الوارثين
Eerie 😱
Grammar Girl brought me here, oddly enough.
52 hertz whale?
Upload a video with the original audio please... I can't find any actual blue whale sounds anywhere. I know pretty much everyone on youtube cant comprehend that 20hz won't come through their speakers, but it would be nice to have 20hz whale sounds coming out of subwoofers. This isnt what the whale sounds like!
Hi, @Mollifier16616111. You can download audio data via our Data Search tool at data.oceannetworks.ca/DataSearch?location=NC27.H2&deviceCategory=HYDROPHONE. For the data source, choose the Ocean Sonics icListen LF Hydrophone 224 (23159), and then the time period 2013-10-17 22:30-22:35 UTC. You can download wav or mp3 files. It will probably take some audio processing to reveal the blue whale calls within these files.
For a tutorial on how to use our Data Search tool, see: ruclips.net/video/evj26ypISBM/видео.html
Alternately, you can use our Hydrophone Data Search tool via this link:
