@@chrisrusso4993 hey man!! I am very happy with them still. I say that the only other that I would consider instead of these would be a long travel kit and set of cheaper shocks. These shocks are incredible, and let you put the defender through things you wouldn’t think it would have handled well before them. But it is still limited by its high center of gravity and relatively narrow track width compared to overall height. Haven’t been able to find anyone who has a long travel kit for a comparison but I am working on it! Also, I would also been hesitant to recommend these shocks to novice riders, as they do such an incredible job compensating for body roll and pitch that they can actually mask some of the indications that you might be at the edge of your machines geometrical limitations. An example of this is that generally a lot of body roll will be felt before you have any wheel lift in a corner, these shocks are so good at keeping the vechicle planted that an inexperienced rider might miss these greatly reduced indicators and push the machine too far. I also would spend the extra money and get the pro. Being able to complete tune the vechicle suspension to your own personal driving style is such a game changer. Hope that helps and please consider subbing if you’re not. Someone who previously worked on suspension geometry on the new generation of can am commanders is getting a set, and I plan to do an interview with him to get his a lot more scientific input on the shocks.
I don’t think I wanna go that extreme with the smart shocks, but I bet they normal shocks that will make a difference of day and night compared to stock
I think once you feel the adjustability that’s on these smart shocks, it would be hard to ride anything else. It literally transforms the machine. If I wasn’t going to go the smart shock route, I definitely would be looking at a long travel kit with some custom length shocks from shock therapy.
@@Headupthrottledown I understand that and yes that would be great, but why I do not want to go that route is because I drive a lot 3000; km in one year I did and I know those kind of shocks do wearout/break like the Polaris and Hondas. So I’m not going to pay top dollar for a year or two and have a Brocken shock and then pay more.
@@meangrean hey! Those rebuild cycles recommendations are generally for people who are jumping/racing there machines….. I doubt I will need to rebuild mine before u would have to replace the stock components :) unless your driving your machine on the edge constantly, there is no way these shocks will see the same heat cycles that they would in a race application :)
@@Headupthrottledown that’s true too, but I drive a lot of logging Roads and back country trails usually once a week and like to take them at a bit higher speed without my filling to come loose.I was just on a whole sale for shocks website, and ther want 4-6k us. Wow they better be good
@@meangrean lol they are :) where you located? I let you take them for a rip. I have 2023 I’ve had it less than a year, and I just hit 4000km. So it was definitely a concern for me, but rebuildable is nice too…. Keep your old shocks on the shelf, it’s a 15 minute swap out and then you’ll be able to keep having top level suspension on your machine for as long as you have them :) they are also a true 2.5 shock, so they are quite beefy. I have calibrated mine for three settings, slow and soft for low gear cruising with the family, medium setting for trail riding where you still want some cushion, and an aggressive high speed set up for when you want to go fast and not worry about the bumps. It’s also crazy how you can calibrate them to reduce body roll and pitch, makes the machine feel much more stable when you want to get a little crazy 🤣🤣🤣
Great question! While they retail for 3999.00 for the basic package, and the pro being 4999.00, I was able to secure a pretty good Boxing Day discount! Something I always suggest is to contact their sales team and see if they can honour any recent sales you have. While at first this may seem like alot, when you take into consideration that your not just getting top of the line shocks but a complete system with wiring harness, ECU, IMU, touchscreen interface and all the software and R&D for the products development, you can definitely see where the value is. And considering the product is designed, tested and built in the United States.
Some people do! It’s all about what you are after friend…. How many guys buy 40k machines and throw on portals, long travel kits, and huge paddle tires? How much is the price difference between a top tier utv with smart shocks and one without? What if you don’t want all the other stuff that you are forced to buy because the factory controls the trims? What’s cheaper upgrading your payed off buggy and completely revitalizing its handling characteristics or being forced to buy a 50k machine because they only offer it as an option on the highest trims? This is giving control to the consumer, giving you the ability to buy and then customize their machine and pay for only the things they want. I understand what your trying to say, but if someone can afford an 50k machine, you definitely can afford a 30k machine with 5k of aftermarket upgrades, and be riding the exact machine equipped exactly the way you want :) that’s why it’s a game changer :) Thanks for watching and thanks for taking the time to comment!
Excellent video, your knowledge and presentation helped make my decision and I ordered my SDI shocks today.
Thanks

Great review 👏
Glad you liked it! Thanks for the watch and the comment!
I am looking at these. Are you still happy with them? Have you ever been in one with the shock therapy fox?

After dumping 30k for a wheeler who the heck’s got another 5k for shocks?
