Sounds like someone should have handed Coppola a copy of "The Watchmen" and told him, "Francis, maybe you should write a graphic novel for this project instead. I don't know if this will work on film. It's a bit... much."
I decided that i liked it, but the day after i watched it 😅. Because while i was watching I was disoriented and bored for most of the movie. Becaus of its unusual editing and narrative that breaks the traditional, I was lost and couldn't settle in the movie and i was bored over long dialogues, which surprised me because I love dialogue. It was only when Aubrey and Shia were on screen, that my eyes ligthed up, I loved them ❤. I loved both their characters a lot! I could tell Coppola gave them special treatment. It was both of them and after the shocking moment involving a gun, that my interest picked and was invested. 2/3 of the movie I couldn't hang to anything and when I did, the movie kicked me out with long dialogue with no energy. In the last 3rd, I was invested, I kinda had a feel of what I was watching but still had my doubts, expecting it to go crazy again. Then I felt the points it was trying to make were made very loosely, but by the end, the last maybe 5 minutes that's when it finally tues the whole thing and I was surprised that the message, at least for me, was intense. The same message that I felt was weak, but the last minutes, it hammers it directly no playing or insinuating, but right in your face and even after the last image gets the point across, we get a text and i felt what i feel with a few movies... Intensity, when the movie passes the screen to reach you. Only a few movies have done this. So i think now that I finally know the plot and the style and the disorientation is gone, that this movie will benefit from a second viewing. I think this is Coppola's Eyes Wide Shut, the last Kubrick film, controversial, attacked as boring, criticized and misunderstood. The last movie of an acclaimed filmmaker criticized as failure and the last effort of a talent filmmaker who has lost his touch. Now Eyes Wide Shut is a cult classic and widely discussed and even a pop culture phenomenon, cited when cults, parties, elites are discussed. Probably Megalopolis will go that route, since it's a mirror of civilization and very close to what a lot of people say it's happening and can happen right now in USA and other developed countries.
All the negative press surrounding this film is literally just Hollywood being butthurt he made the movie with his own money and refused to play ball with the system. Fuk anyone who defends the system.
Not defending the system(every system has problems), but yea glad people enjoyed a movie and can watch something in relation to the production of the movie.
This seemed really interesting, but you have *got* to get rid of that wii channel background music. It adds nothing and makes it really hard to concentrate on what you're saying.
I have a question for you about these "scandalous" things (Coppola smoking weed and going over budget, etc).... WHO CARES? The film is brilliant. Criticism like this video is absolute dogshit
I like how we just can't laugh at the ridiculousness of a production based on reports and enjoy a movie 😂 but thanks. Also, I'm totally okay with the weed smoking, but the fact that you ignore the sexual allegations is also pretty funny 🤣 just have fun, but yea, this video may not have been for you, and i apologize.
Man, I wish it was Animal Farm, that film score is killer. I know you mean Animal Crossing, which I agree, its very hard to take seriously with this music.
Correction, it's Wii music to offset my shitty mic. I wanted this to be more lighthearted despite the subject matter, but I'll keep this in mind on my next video
Honestly loved the film. It’s abstract art, but if you enjoy abstract art like I do you’ll love it. It’s a farce, social commentary about generational conflict over the passing on of responsibility, and Coppola’s views on our world/life/ and a vision of the future wrapped up in a surreal love story. So many cool camera effects and tricks that were masterfully done by Roman Coppola, who did the same on Dracula. I was ready for the film to be bad after seeing first response, but really enjoyed it and was pleasantly surprised. It’s unapologetic art and doesn’t beg the audience to like it like many of Hollywood films.
Wow thanks for your input about the film itself and glad people like you can have a positive experience with a piece a media that is being scrutinized for other reasons!
@@SuperMediaRunners No problem!! I just saw a late night screening last night in imax so have been watching reviews. I have to admit I worked a day on the film doing stunts but didn’t get used on the day and hung out on set. I’ve worked on plenty of bad movies though and never afraid to criticize something I’ve worked on. I also saw it with my friend who worked on it in the camera department too. So we wanted it to be good, but we were both ready to for it to maybe be bad based on what we heard. She actually saw a rough cut a while ago that worried her. But after it was over we both loved what we saw and thought it achieved what Coppola wanted it to. It was want perfect by any means, but it was bold, and from someone who is 85 who wanted to put this out into the world before he goes I greatly respect that. The worst thing a movie can do is be boring and that’s what I was expecting based on early reviews, but this was the complete opposite!
@@SuperMediaRunners Haha yeah it was we saw it in IMAX at the Chinese theater in LA, because we are both out here now trying to grow our careers. Yeah if that made you want to go see it, you’ll probably like it! You just have to go in it with an open mind and understand you aren’t seeing a traditional movie by any means. And yes the experience was awesome, I only sat on the sidelines which is the way it goes sometimes in stunts. But I was fascinated by the way Coppola ran a set, he’s very organic and it felt like an indie film with a large budget.
Truly a brilliant filmmaker regardless! If I check it out in the next few weeks, I'll let ya know! Thank you again for your insight and so far you are the only one not trying to kill me for talking about a movie that people love and that I am simply seeing the funny side of production 😂 have a great rest of your day!
Quentin Tarantino said directors don’t improve better the older they get
Glad he's self-aware about that 😂
Ironically Tarantino has gotten better as he has gotten older
Hateful 8 👏👏
Tarantino doesn’t actually care about cinema. All he cares about is what others think of him.
Sounds like someone should have handed Coppola a copy of "The Watchmen" and told him, "Francis, maybe you should write a graphic novel for this project instead. I don't know if this will work on film. It's a bit... much."
They did do a novelization of the film! Wondering what the differences between them are!

I can expect this to be a cult classic by the end, thank you for sharing your insight!

your microphone is too thin to have the music that loud
Thank you! Going to ditch the music ❤️
This seemed really interesting, but you have *got* to get rid of that wii channel background music. It adds nothing and makes it really hard to concentrate on what you're saying.
Thanks man, second person to let me know. It was offset my shit mic.
So you don't think you missed anything?
Just highlighting the stuff I found interesting.

The Animal Farm music is making this unwatchable

Pure crap

You are seriously convincing me to go see it 😂😂 and wow, that must have been quite the experience!
